Fourteen Anniversary Ale is a hoppy black ale bursting with so much flavor you might think you’re tasting double. Made with ingredients gathered from seven parts of the world, Fourteen will seize hold your taste buds and never let go. Enjoy the intensely floral nose from dry-hopped Cascade and Galaxy hops, the surprisingly light body from 2-row barley, wheat malt, black wheat, and Caramalt, and the strong bitter finish from Chinook, and Cascade hops. Appearance: pours a brown color with a 1/2" head that breaks apart quickly.

Smell: hints of citrus and soft roasted tones comes through to the nose.

Taste: some wheat, hints of chocolate , orange citrus, very mild pine, and a light roasted tone makes up a well balanced beer.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp to start, less crisp and a touch dry at the finish. Aftertaste is focused on wheat and roasted tones.

Overall: an easy drinking beer. Definitely easy to drink the bomber in a single short session.

Poured a very dark brown in color with brown highlights and a nice half finger of beige bubbly head that left some good frothy lacing sticking to the glass. Plenty of hop character upfront in the aroma with a little citrus pine, some roastiness, chocolate notes and signs of caramel. The hop profile was quite nice on the palate consisting of piney, citrusy, mild earthy and floral notes but with good roastiness, a bit of chocolate flavor, mild caramel sweetness with a nice malty backbone. The brew was medium in body with good amount of carbonation which has a semi sweet, hoppy, roasty, crisp and mild bitter finish. I though it was a very well done dark IPA and was damn good too.

a: pours out like a dark cola but settles in pitch black. three fingers of big clumpy tan head slowly settles to a couple of spots around the rim. Sticky lacing covers the entire glass as I drink this down.

s: despite being close to a year old there is still quite the hop presence on the nose. very floral and sweet. some wheat with a hint of caramel, maybe a little spice.

t: floral hops are still there. burnt wheat toast and a touch of caramel for sweetness.

m: medium light body with a slight creamy feel. carbonation is excellent. long bitter finish that reminds me of burnt toast.

o: kinda indifferent on this. doesn't knock my socks off yet i'm still able to finish the bottle. if you have a chance, give it a go.

A-dark black color with a small tan head and some lacing

S-dark roasted malt, pine, hints of citrus, a slight earthiness

T-dark roasted malt, citrus, pine, slightly peppery, nice bitter finish

F-medium body with moderate carbonation, crisp

O-this black ale had nice flavor, but I prefer others in the category that have better balance

a deep brown almost black pour, 2 fingers of light colored tan/creme frothy head, great lacing. getting a lot of herbal/vegetable scents.. almost like a soup, sweet malt is also present. very bitter up front.. getting a lot of bitterness from the hops but can't quite place my tongue on what type of bitterness.. it's just a rough battery acid like feel. getting a taste of kalamata (sp?) olives, a very roasted bitter flavor of tobacco from the toasted grains. the second taste was a bit more subtle on the palate but i'm still getting part of that earthy bitterness on the palate that just kind of takes over the entire flavor.

the mouthfeel is very creamy. a medium body beer with a moderate amount of carbonation.

overall, this is a decent beer. i feel like maybe it should have been enjoyed a bit sooner, or left to sit for longer. like it's almost in beer purgatory right now and i got a few off flavors. it's not entirely my fault, as i saw it at the store 2 weeks ago and picked it up on a whim.. though i knew it had come out a while ago.

On-tap 12/23/2012 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a large beige head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains floral hops, citrus, roasted malts and some chocolate.

T: The taste starts with a strong but not over-powering hops bitterness. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in along with some background chocolate flavor creating a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry but slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a very good beer to drink for a long time.

T: big hop fwd. pine. Slight malt bill, a little spice.
M: thin bodied but not overly carbed giving it a soft, round feel, not at all heavy.

750ml bottle purchased as a single from Savemore Discount Beverage, Clifton Park, NY. Capped and sealed.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a dark brown skim over the clear brownish ruby brew. Head stays at an uneven skim, with leggy, slow-falling lace. Aroma is blackstrap and alcohol.

Taste is moderately rich dark malts upfront, the middle finds dark fruits and coffee notes fighting for prominence, and the close is bitter in both the hoppy and coffee manner, with an alcoholic warmth. Mouthfeel is slickery smooth, and drinkability is very easy. This one could be a bit hoppier, but other than that, not much complaint.

Pours a deep amber to black in color with a tan head. In the aroma, orange to grapefruit citrus hops. In the taste, grapefruit citrus rind hops with a dryer end. A small hop bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry grapefruit citrus rind in the aftertaste. Great hops, but no roast whatsoever. I enjoyed it though.

750ml bottle into Pumking chalice. Dark brown in color with a thin spotty head to it. Decent lacing out of what was there though.

In the aroma I get sugary malts mixing with some residual citrusy hops. There is a little dark candied fruit to it as well. The hops feel a little faded, but not bad. Decent aroma, but probably not as good as it once was.

The taste again show some citrusy hops but they end up playing a backseat to the sugary, candied malts. It just felt too sweet and sugary overall with not enough hop presence anymore.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, it was a decent beer but the hops felt a little faded at this point. The sugary malts and candied fruit flavors were a little too much at this point as well. Not a bad beer, but probably not as good as it once was.
