On tap at Central Waters' 17th Anniversary party.
A- Medium yellow-orange body. One finger white head with surprisingly good retention time and nice moderate-sized rings of lacing.
S- Clean Belgian yeast esters offering up a bit of bubblegum and cloves, along with a very nice citrus and pine hop aroma. Pale malt backbone isn't as present, seemingly blending in with the yeast.
F- Clean citrus up front, offering a nice bite of grapefruit mixing in with the mild caramel flavours of the pale malt which quickly transition to the Belgian yeast character- spices, cloves more so than bubblegum- which finishes with a moderately bitter pine finish balanced by a bit of grainy sweetness. Very nice and certainly tasty IPA.
M- Thin-medium body as expected for the style, nice carbonation. Not too bitter with the pine, the grainy sweetness on the backend helps soften the bitterness quite a bit, which I appreciated. Very drinkable.
O- I liked this one more than I thought I would. The Belgian yeast is hard to miss, but it doesn't dominate or take away from the hops and the malt, which provide a surprisingly nice backbone. I would certainly consider buying a six-pack every now and then if Paul and Anello do choose to release this in bottles.
