Dark straw to light amber appearance with a two finger, puffy white head. Very expressive nose mixed with both tropical and herbaceous notes - pineapple, lemon, hay, grass and earthy pine. Flavor profile leans more to the herbal side with grass and pine playing the main roll. There is just enough of a malt backbone here to add balance. I am going to guess Mosaic is the main hop used in this beer. It is a very good pale ale - probably the best low ABV beer I have had from CW. Nicely done - would be a great addition to their 6-pack lineup.

22 oz. bottle:

Pours hazed golden with a creamy white lasting head. Thin rings of lacing stick.

The smell is of citrus and pine - hop-forward aroma.

The taste is of oily hops - pine/resin - bready, sweetish balance. Finishes with a pleasant, lingering citric bitterness.

Very smooth - medium bodied.

This is an excellent, hop-forward APA to say the least! Too bad it's not a regular and in 6-packs.

Finger plus of bright white foam, full mix of bubble sizes with an irregular surface, the lacing is a little wispy but evenly spread across the glass. Hazy orange copper color that fades to yellow at the rims, normal amount of visible bubbles. The nose features sweet citrus, tangerine to pink grapefruit, just baked pie dough, slight herbal funk, pine, the fruit appears to have faded away at this juncture so it is likely not as freshly juicy as right out of the gate. Medium-bodied, the carbonation helps it spread wide during the mouth entry and as this trails off so does a lot of the flavor. That said, it was likely intended to have a more mineral water, earth and grassy bite than to be a fruit bomb. Mango, peach, apricot echoes through the finish, the orange citrus not as prominent as the nose suggests. Juniper, thyme and then something closer to oregano, offers more by way of garden herbs and baking spices. Any breadiness resides in the background, actually might want of deeper maltiness. Clean and of good plus drinkability and generally affable demeanor.

1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with appealing label art and black pry-off cap served cold into a pint glass at high altitude in Castle Rock, Co. Reviewed live as a pale ale per the label.

Courtesy of the very generous Duff27. Thanks, buddy!

Expectations are high given the brewery.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: ~3 fingers wide. White colour. Foamy and frothy. Soft-looking. No lacing sticks to the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Should be thicker and fuller.

Retention is good - about ~6-7 minutes.

BODY: Clear honeyed copper colour of nice vibrance. Translucent and transparent. No yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

It's an appealing pale ale, no doubt. Sure, the head could be better, but the honey colour is attractive and it's an inviting appearance overall - though not quite unique or special.

AROMA: Pale malts and honey malts. Floral hop notes, hints of soapy hop character, citrus zest, cotton candy, and perfumey fragrant herbal notes. A dab of tropical fruit.

Aromatic intensity is mild.

It's a clean aroma, with no yeasty presence, off-notes, or booze.

The mild soapiness is concerning, but overall it seems well-balanced, and avoids the cloying caramalt presence that plagues so many pale ales.

TASTE: The pale malt and honey malt backbone is nice, but the hop profile doesn't quite fit into it. There's some vague tropical hop character, floral hop notes, a dab of soapiness, and perfumey herbs. Fleeting tangerine.

The fruit doesn't ring distinct, and could be more developed.

It's balanced I suppose, but does have some strange cotton candy character. Almost gestalt, but the flavours showcased here just don't really appeal to my personal tastes. Depth of flavour is above average, and the flavour duration is apt.

Complex for a pale ale, but it comes off lacking. I do like it generally speaking, but there could be more nuance and subtlety.

TEXTURE: Perfect carbonation. Soft and refreshing, but strangely coating - making its perceived thickness higher. Medium-bodied with a slick, smooth, and wet feel on the palate. Nice presence on the palate. Still, it lacks adequate heft and weight on the palate.

Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.

There's no harmony of texture to taste.

OVERALL: Drinkable and enjoyable, but far from world-class. I do like it, but wouldn't nab a second bottle. I'm glad to have had the chance to try it, and will enjoy finishing the bottle. But Central Waters should stick to beers in their wheelhouse - like bourbon barrel aged stouts. Above average, but not a stylistic paragon.

Huge thanks to Duff27 for the bottle!

Pours a golden orange with a frothy 2.5 finger white head. Big Citra hop aromas of tropical fruits. Taste follows the nose which is a sweet flavor of tropical and citrus fruit. Medium feel and well carbonated. Well made Citra APA from CW. Just need it in 4 or 6 pk format.

On tap at Brasserie V in Madison, Wisconsin. Served in a pint glass.

Appears lighter yellow-golden bodied, clear, one finger white head, some rings of lacing, fair retention. A lighter bodied pale ale. Smells of tropical fruit, grapefruit and other citrus aromatics, a bit of mild resin, minimal caramel or malty sweetness. Straight aromatics hops in this nose, it's excellent. Flavour is more balanced, grapefruit, tropical fruit mixed in with some caramel with a mild astringency on the backend. It's not as fruity or aromatic as the nose suggests, but it's still very good. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good carbonation, very easy to drink, not too bitter on the backend. Most of the hops are of the aromatic variety it seems. Overall, an excellent APA that I think Central Waters should start making more of in lieu of the likes of Hop Harvest or Hop Rise. I enjoyed this one more than say, Karben4 Fantasy Factory.

I really love this APA! This is my new favorite local hoppy beer. I truly believe this one can hold it's own against the east coast hops. I have tried a lot of IPA/APA's and this one in my opinion is the best I have tried from WI to date! I am not saying HF Double Citra good, but I don't see how you can not like this one. Perfect balance of of Citra and just enough crystal malt...very well balanced and I hope to see this one in rotation! Thank you for this one Central Waters!!

A nice beer for everyday quaffing. If there was a bit more ABV/punch to it I believe it would be 1st class.

This is now out in 12 oz. bottles and I am having the 1st tonight. While it is a bit low on the ABV scale the aroma tonight is just amazing ! I will definitely be getting more of this one !

The last few btls I have had have not been as fresh as the earlier ones and it has fallen off quite a bit.

Clear golden, citra smell, light malt backing it up, slightly grassy. Was expecting a little more flavor, it's clean tasting and easy drinking but a little watery

Poured from a 22oz. bottle.

A: Pours a slightly cloudy golden amber with a finger and a half of pillowy white head. Head lingers for about a minute and leaves behind some pretty nice lacing.

S: Aromas of citrus, lemon, orange, mango, and grapefruit. Then sweet bread like malts, pineapple, and earhty pine like hops. Very inviting nose.

T: Flavors of citrus, and tropical fruits are abundant throughout. Pine hops and grapefruit flavors dominate the middle of the palate. Finishes with some sweet malt flavors and a lingering floral/pine hop bitterness. Lots of flavor packed into this APA.

M: Medium bodied, and medium amount of carbonation. Crisp with a slimy after feel. Finishes wet with a nicer level of astringency.

O: An impressive take on an APA. Very delicious and well balanced they hit on everything a great Pale Ale should have. This is truly a unforgettable ale, I hope they find a reason to brew this again. I plan to buy/enjoy a few more of these while I can. I would consider this a must try.
