Free bottle for participating in the River Run. Pours to a murky dark amber appearance with a thin off white head. Smells of sweet baking spice (mainly cinnamon and clove). Tastes similar to the smell - spicy malt with that signature Belgian clove on the finish. Light to medium in body with good carbonation making this very drinkable. This is actually a decent quad from a brewery known mainly for their barrel aged brews. Better than last year's River Run beer by a long shot.

22 oz bottle from the 2015 River Run at Central Waters
A: A medium dark brown leather color with moderate haze. Low head retention, the foam fizzled out very quickly like a cola, tight mocha colored bubbles. Medium alcohol legs appear when swirled in the Orval glass.
S: Medium malt forward aroma with prunes, raisins and dates coming through. Medium - low toast and melenoidin like aromas. No hop aroma. Mild clove and Moderate banana esters from the yeast. Ethenol is mild. A moderate sweeter impression in the aroma.
T: Mild to low bitterness with an earthy rustic hop flavor that peaks through. Malt flavors range from moderate to medium with prunes, plums, toast, bread crust and raisins respectively. Yeast flavors are medium to low with clove being the dominant flavor. Balance is on the malt. Slight fruity (apple, pear) flavor in the finish. Sweetness is moderate and takes away from the overall impression
M: Medium-low carbonation with moderate to big body. Creamy mouthfeel with medium alcohol warming in the chest. The low carbonation makes it much smoother then a typical high carbonic quad.
O: A decent beer. While most CW beers are refined and dialed in this one seems to need some tweaking to perfect (which is maybe why it was just for the runners) The carbonation was a lower then id prefer for the style and the overall malt profile had too much residual sweetness for my taste.
