Barrel-aged Quad is brewed in the spirit of collaboration. We combine traditional techniques and ingredients like Belgian candi sugar with American innovation and experimentation by the use of bourbon barrels.

2016 vintage. Minimal head and lacing, dark ruby tint. Smells of dark fruit and mild barrel. Dark fruit flavors, sweet sugary molasses, brown sugar, bourbon burn. Medium bodied, mouth watering, mouth filling feel, and strong alcohol presence. Very good.

Crushed this for the first time on the Marquette reunion trip in 2019. After a long morning of disc golf, hit up the brewery, and then had one of these on the drive down to Funk Factory.

Pours a brown and dark amber like color, beige head, 1/3" deep. The aroma was more bourbon barrel than quad yeast. Notes of toffee, earthiness alongside the bourbon. Dark fruit? Barely there from the yeast, and this speaks to me.

Taste seems to get more mileage out of that belgian candy sugar, while not being sweet, it tamps that dark fruit bitterness down along with the help from the bourbon barrels themselves. Mouth feel is great, relatively smooth compared to the dark fruit bitterness that dominates most quads I reluctantly get into. Amazing how 12oz of this is really crushable (especially once you've already got your buzz goin'). Really hides the alcohol well, higher carbonated than most quads I've had too.

What a fun trip that was. Seriously, this is my fave quad, but I don't like quads.

Stream of Conciousness speech to text review of 8 BA Central Waters beers.

1. Coconut Rum Porter
2. Peruvian Morning
3. Barleywine
4. Vanilla Bean Stout
5. Cassian Sunset
6. Scotch
7. Stout
8. Quad (not rated).

First pour is 2017 Stout and 2019 Vanilla Bean.
Vanilla Bean is a little sweeter though the vanilla is weak.
2017 Stout is roasty and very smooth, but maybe a touch flat, but to be expected at 3 years old.

Adding in 2018 Peruvian Morning next. Moved to weird mashup videos on youtube.
Coffee still hanging in, best so far.

Adding Cassian Sunset 2018. Cinnamon and Vanilla are muted from what I remember.
Peruvian has definately aged better.
As it warms, cinnamon and vanilla meld a bit more, but they give a sharp astringent finish.

Fresh glasses. Now pouring 2016 Scotch Ale, 2017 Barleywine and 2017 Quad.
Remnants of first 3 are combined as a "stout chaser" to balance the other beers.

Barleywine is nice: apples, brandy, fruit cake, grape, lots of oak the nose and late in the taste. Hearty.

Quad,
LOOK: red/brown, off white head, good retention.
AROMA: spice, perfume, wood,
TASTE: black pepper, wood, bread, light hint of baking soda.
FEEL: medium to full body. impressive carbonation after 3 years for style.

2017 bottle, it pours reddish brown color with a 2 finger thick sand colored head that was packed with tiny bubbles, dissipating slowly and leaving decent spotty lacing. Smells sweet and malty with toffee, caramel, brown sugar, syrup soaked bread like French toast, Belgian sugar, bourbon, earthy notes, faint vanilla and a nice sugary sweetness. The quad sweetness is tamed by the bourbon, oak and mild spices.

Flavor has more floral notes, peppery spices and metallic aspects, along with more vanilla and then the same lineup as the nose: toffee, caramel, brown sugar, French toast, toasted grains, Belgian sugar, bourbon, earthy notes like tea leaf and then the addition of chalky yeast. nice balance between the malts and bourbon, it's very complex with a mild amount of heat from the ABV. Mild carbonation, a watery feel yet somehow it seems thick as it goes down. A fine slow sipper, but a notch below the Central Waters Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout and Barleywine.

Pours a copper/brown color. 1 finger reddish/white head. The head retention isn't too good, and there's no lacing on the glass as it dissipates.
The nose is a nice fruity aroma. Some raisin. Some vanilla. There's also notes from the bourbon barrel. There's also a bit of a boozy aroma that compliments the other aromas.
Taste - The vanilla was the first taste that hit my palate. The raisin then hits. The barrel flavors are mixed in throughout.
Thick, full bodied. No alcohol burn, but quite boozy. It's also smooth going down.
Solid, and delicious quad. A good beer from Central Waters, and if you like quads, I recommend it.
