Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours midnight black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of tan head that settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A very rich aroma with a scent of rum, chocolate, and coconut. Huge upfront barrel presence of rum. Dark roasted malt with a scent of chocolate, coffee, toffee, caramel, toast, and biscuit along with yeast. Sweet scent of coconut and molasses. A pretty nice sweet aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a very rich taste of dark rum, chocolate, and coconut. Big upfront boozy taste of rum along with some oak. Dark roasted malt with notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel, toffee, biscuit, and toast with some yeast. Sweet taste of coconut and molasses. A very good rich taste.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Rich, creamy, syrupy, and slick. Fairly hot.

Overall: A very good BA Porter. Huge rum presence with a nice touch of coconut.

A-a very dark brown with a thin layer of light tan head that leaves just a bit of lacing around the top

S-super boozy, rum, more chocolate as the beer warms

T-chocolate and light coconut with a heavy amount of rum

M-rich body with moderate carbonation

Overall this beer really benefits from letting it warm up, a bit too much rum for me though

Poured into a 16 oz tulip glass, vintage 2018, pours a very dark brown with a 2 finger head that settles very quick into dead bibbles.

Smell alcohol vapers, dark chocolate, coconut, and a little hint of coffee grounds.

Taste follows extremely boozy, rum soaked raisins, brown sugar, dark chocolate, coffee, and vanilla.

Mouthfeel is almost medium, enough life but very moderate, a tad dry for sure, and a sipper for sure, and really aggressive alcohol.

Overall this is still pretty good, but drinks bigger than its ABV and it may need to spend extra time aging in my opinion. Thanks GreenBayBA for this over the top bottle.

Poured 12 oz bottle into snifter. It is a deep, dark brown with a 2 finger sand colored head. Nice retention and the cap slowly fades and leaves behind splotches of lacing on my glass. The first wiff almost turned my off from the beer as all I could pick up was rum. It is dominant, but there are faint chocolate, coconut and malt notes from the porter. The flavor is sweeter, with some coconut cake, malts and chocolate, and massive rum notes. There is an aftertaste from the rum barrel that detracts from the beer. Feel is medium and smooth with some alcohol burn. I think CW did okay and should improve on this in the future. If you want a delicious coconut rum porter, look for Tyranena's Coco Poco.

Pours a clear dark brown with a tan head that recedes quickly but leaves lacing throughout. The aroma is rum heavy with a hint of coconut. The flavor is dark chocolate with lots of rum and a touch of coconut. Full and creamy for a porter with nice carbonation. Love this beer.

Central Waters Brewer's Reserve Rum Barrel Coconut Porter, 12.2% ABV, 29 IBU. Pours black with a slight tan head. Nose is rum and slight coconut. Taste is mostly sweet rum, no notable coconut, and a slight bitter close. Excellent mouthfeel, overall nearly outstanding. I had higher hopes for this since I enjoy most of their other BA beers, and I like Rum BA beers, but this didn't knock my socks off. Update: did improve as it warmed, picking up chocolate and coconut.

Tastes friggin amazing. Smell, too. Vanilla and bourbon (?) are exploding out at me. No burn, just velvety smoothness deliverying a plethora of dark malt, vanilla and oak.

The years helped this one along very well

Poured at 55 Degrees. Rich and dark with a good mouth feel. A bit too sweet for my tastes though. Subtle notes of the rum and coconuts. The high ABV is not noticed here. A very good porter.

Happy Veterans Day. Go Hawks.

Very tasty rum and coconut mix. Nice-looking Porter thick dark black color. Small creamy looking beige head. Lots of coconut and rum in the nose. Taste is more of the same; charred barley is the backbone. The feel is very smooth. 9/10 thick , pretty chewy.

Just a very nice porter, with some of my favorite flavors done proud.

Just raiding my cellar on a weekly basis to get through. This is still very nice 6 months later. Yum. Coconut and rum are smooth and meshing well at this point.

My other 2 are stored away. One awaiting an aged Central Waters tasting in the future; and another destined for maybe a longer cellaring.

Rich aroma of dark malts and rum, with the rum not too strong. Tall tan head from a vigorous pour that dies really quickly, leaving no lacing (well, a few dots here and there), and ending with a few scattered small bubble islands.

Color is deep black. A back light reveals a ruby fringe and slightly ruby zones in the body.

Feel is substantial and moderately thick on the tongue.

As with the aroma, the dark malts are front in the taste, with a nice rum flavor and slight coconut. So slight that if I didn't read "coconut" on the label, I might have missed it (maybe it is even subliminal...).

The finish is only very slightly bitter, with a little alcohol on the back of the tongue and throat. With an ABV above 12%, this beer is dangerously easy drinking, so caution is advised.

Central waters nails this one. This beer really opens up over time and as it comes up in temperature so take your time. Remember:

This is a porter so don’t complain that it doesn’t have a massive underattentuated pastry body.

You like rum right? The rum barrel is prominent, kind of the most assertive and primary flavor characteristic, but give it time and notes of semisweet chocolate and coconut come wafting in after. Very enjoyable if that’s your bag.

12oz bottle with a 2018 notch and 04618 printed on bottle neck (2 1/2 years old) poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on label. The beer pours dense dark brown with little light penetration and mocha colored head. The head recedes to a pencil thin ring. The aroma is tangy porter and faint rum barrel. The taste is rum soaked porter with a hint of coconut, vanilla and barrel. Minimal to moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a somewhat dry finish. Overall, good.

L-Dark brown....no head..

S-Sugar cane, molasses, rum. A lot of rum.

T-Spiced rum, sugar, some cola like notes....not getting much for barrel notes (oak, nougat, vanilla) or coconut.

F-The viscosity it too thin for the style. Kind of a 5W-30 motor oil when a 20W-50 is expected.

O-This is not what I expected and I can't imagine this is what CW brewers envisioned this turning out to be. No issues drinking it but not what I expected. Like one person noted it is a bit like a Captain Morgan and coke.

12oz bottle. 2018 vintage. Poured into a snifter. Pours a dark black color with hints of brown when held up to the light and a fuzzy light tan head that quickly dissipates. The nose is absolutely dominated by the rum barrels overpowering the base porter and the coconut. The taste is also extremely barrel heavy overpowering all other flavors. The finish is a lingering boozy warmth. Overall, I’m not too impressed by this as it is a rum barrel bomb with not much else in terms of flavor. The coconut is completely overpowered and almost non-existent. Maybe time will mellow this out some, but right now it is just too boozy.

Rum barrel bomb. Attractive looking brew with a nice dense head that slowly settled. Massive aroma of rum that detracts from the rest this beer has to offer. There is just the barest hint of coconut or a porter underneath the booze. Flavor is full of rum and alcohol heat and flavor. Unfortunately the coconut flavor tastes a bit artificial. It just does not blend well with the barrel flavors. Has nice carbonation but the body is hurt by the booze with gives the impression of a thin body. A poorly executed beer. Maybe this beer will improve with some age if the coconut does not fade with time.

2019 dated bottle into a stemmed snifter. Pours dark brown cola in color. Small fizzy tan head that dissipates quickly. Sweet toasted and spicy rum notes on the nose. Some chocolate as well. Sweet up front, chocolate mild coconut. More of the barrel on the finish, a bit overpowering and cloying. Surprisingly boozy for a porter as you certainly feel the 12+% ABV. Slick and creamy body. Again surprisingly full bodied for a porter.

Pours an amber chocolate color with a smallish khaki head. Smell's of coconut, rum, wood ,vanilla and rum.Taste has a sweet coconut start mixed with vanilla and rum . Mouth feel was sweet had a nice finish of rum in it. I liked this ba porter it was sweet with coconut (little heavy) but overall as it warmed more rum and vanilla came thru to offset that.

My 400th review. Warmed to about 50 degrees before diving in.

Pours to a very dark brown appearance with a fast breaking one finger light tan head. Smells like Captain Morgan - call it spicy rum. Very boozy on the nostrils. Taste is straight up rum with a bit of cherry on the finish. No coconut, no sign of base beer and no balance. Feel is on the creamy side with no carbonation. I didn't like this beer on tap at the brewery. My wife was the opposite so I bought her a 4-pack. Glad she likes this as it would be a drain pour otherwise. Big miss by CW.

12 oz. bottle of a reputed god-like nectar in hand! Amazing that this went pretty quickly around my area, despite the grim pronouncements of the neckbeard crowd. I’ll admit I was several in when I had it at CW & don’t recall much except it contained alcohol. Onward!

Opaque black, but it’s giving me coy eyes already. Smells like alcoholic cherry cola.

Central Waters Rum Barrel Coconut Porter – aye, bring me my cutlass! Gee, that was dumn. Super boozy; behind the barleywine the most alcohol-ridden beer from Central Waters I can recall. The alcohol bang is followed/entwined with a bumper crop of rum, which devolves into a coma-inducing sweetness. Chocolate & coconut is mild in the mid-palate, & actually hides more as the beer warms. A sticky beer that needs to be sipped slowly & delicately.

Some people kick puppies, some people hate chocolate, some people hate this beer. I’d put them all in the same barrel & roll them down a steep hill. Very good that borders on excellent.
