The beer poured black with ruby highlights and a tan head that coated the glass.

The aroma was chocolate and some dark fruits. In the background is a slight roastiness and caramel.

The flavor was smooth silky chocolate with coffee. The bittering is substantial enough to provide more than a subtle balance and the beer had a nice complexity of flavor as a result.

The finish was dry with chocolate and slight coffee lasting long and pleasant well into the aftertaste. The body was medium and well done.

What a great beer!

12 ounce bottle, thanks to Skidz and BIF10.

Pours clear, reddish-brown with 1/4 inch head. Taste is both dark and milk chocolate as well as roasted malt. There is a light creaminess to this. Overall this is a solid porter. I will get this one again if I wanted the style.

Mudpuppy are gross looking creatures let's hope this beer is not. Popping the top I get a little black licorice and sweet malt. Pours to an opaque black with a light tan fine bubble head. Taste is rather subdued chocolate and roasted malt with a mild bitterness throughout. A very balanced easy drinker with great flavors but not overbearing.

Central Waters Mudpuppy Porter, 5.5% ABV, 35 IBU. Pours medium viscosity and dark brown with 3 fingers of tan head, slight lacing. Nose is alcohol, malt, marshmallow, taste is malt and moderate bitter close. OK mouthfeel, overall a decent porter, almost stout-like.

Pours very dark brown with off white head. Chocolate heavy scent that mellows out in flavor. The flavor has light chocolate with a lingering flavor of heavily roasted malt/roasted coffee.

This was bottled October 14, 2015. I let the beer warm up for about 25 minutes.

Look: This beer pours a dark brown almost black, with plenty of carbonation and a tan head, formed by some tight bubbles

Smell: oh man, what a pleasant surprise! I got a big whiff of chocolate, malt and maybe a little booze. The smell is just like malt o meal

Taste: the taste is simile to the nose: malt o meal, and it is crazy good.

Feel: there's a good amount of carbonation for a porter, and not as thick as Id imagine, but it's nice. There's no noticeable bitterness.

Overall: this is a treat. If you can get this, absolutely try it.

i feel like every time i have a beer from central waters, its one of their high end brewers reserve series beers all super strong and aged forever in a barrel. like its always some monumental occasion to drink one, i feel compelled to share (or lucky to be invited to share with others), so its nice to have one of their more common releases, take some of the hype and hysteria out of it, but i was shocked that this is on par with any of the other beer they make, one of the better base porters ive had to be honest. really dry and smooth, little bit of yeast character to it, chocolaty and rich, fluffy and drinkable, complex but approachable, its all of the things i love in the style, and i dont think its getting enough credit here on BA. velvety feel, palate coating, with dark cocoa and roast and toast flavors to it, even a hint of smoke as it warms, subtle in every way. one of those porters i could drink ten of from the bottle outside grilling or brewing in the late fall, or in front of a good hockey game in the dead of winter. no frills here, and none are needed. a benchmark in quality for the style.

Was buying a coffee in princeton wi. when I saw this behind the counter with the rest of the brewers line. mixed and match a few sixers.

poured well, little head but laced fairly well. Aroma was nice, like burnt coffee or dark chocolate. tasted of the same, with a caramel or toffee on the back. Not too bitter, enjoyed it the all the way through. A good porter, and a great surprise to find in a coffee/antique shop.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date on the bottle.

Big tan frothing drops a whole lot of sticky lace on the glass. Very dark brown, opaque at that. Smells of toasty brown malt, a bit bready and some spice from the hop in the back. Slick and smooth medium body hold a full malt jacket which fires off layers of toasted bread and semi-burnt biscuity grain flavors. A little fruity and yeasty in the middle. Breakfast Blend coffee and chicory comes to mind. Hops help to balance but are modest for the most part other than a spicy note towards the end. Finishes semi-dry with a lot of lingering toasted/roasted grain.

This is a solid American Porter, certainly sessionable.

Enjoyed on my summer joy ride through the state of Wisconsin, thanks to the "Mayor of Hammertown (in Wisc.)" for the hospitality and fine Central water beers. This one was sampled on tap and bottles, this is a review of the bottled version. 12 ouncer, poured dark dark, brown/amber, with a initially puffy dark tan head, leaves plenty of sheeting, then fine lacing. Nose is pure chocolate, yum. Lots of chocolate, some vanilla, cocoa, dark toasty/crusty malts. Nice, malty, flavorful, chocolate milk shake style porter. Smooth and filling, with a late hop bite and dry out. Nice.

Thanks to exiled for sharing this beer.

The beer pours medium-dark brown with a small white head. The aroma is caramel and chocolate malts. Very sweet smelling. The flavor is coffee, chocolate and caramel malt with a coffee aftertaste. Light to medium mouthfeel and low to medium carbonation.
