hazy, nearly opaque wheat colored amber, large two inch head formed quickly but was replaced by a thin layer of lace on the top,

Lots of yeast, wheat, a hint of some spiceness, maybe even some banana or pear?, almost has a belgian single type of flavor. Lots of subtle taste in theri, fruitness and spice like you dont see too often in a hefe Very creamy smmoth, good carbonation with a nice lingering flavor. Goes down very smooth, very nice feel.

I bought a Mix & Match 6-pack of Central Waters beer at Star Liquor in Ashland Wisconsin for $8.99 in Spring 2011.

Pours a cloudy copper color with a very little head. Scent is that of strong grassy wheats. Very awkward taste here. It starts off rather bold, but quickly diminshes on the pallet. Overal it's very grassy and grainy with slight hints of citrus and maybe some carmel? Could be a little more bold and a better 2nd half of the taste. Taste is very similar to that of Organic wheat beers. Nothing too special here, but better than the cheap beers!

12 oz bottle into a tumbler.

Pours a clear copper, with a finger of foamy bright-white head. Retains with a thin layer of creamy film which skims the surface and leaves some fizzy spotty lace back. The aroma smells grassy and spicy with a sweet earthy twang to it of wheat and fruit. Decent flavorful airiness to this in the nose.

The taste is sweet and bready, with wheat character that snaps across the tongue. A splash of lemon zest and orange are present as is some spiciness, which along with some light bitterness, trails into an earthy and dry finish. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, with a smooth crispness that prickles them mouth. Easy and refreshing on the palate.

This was interesting. Definitely a Wheat Ale here but it didn't come off too much like a Hefe (bubblegum and banana seemed to be missing) for me. Still enough flavor and smoothness to the feel to keep this quite drinkable, as this paired up nicely with the spicy dinner that I was eating. This was decent.

I think this is a Weizenbock, not a hefe, as listed here.

A: Medium orange, cloudy.

S: Clove, bananna..great full nose.

T: Follows nose, a nice funk/sour note at the back of the tounge.

M: Medium, not as creamy as a Hefe, more a bitey, spicey feel, like a Weizenbock.

D: Very refreshing. I still think this a Weizenbock. Was to spicy for a traditional Hefe, but, about right for a Weizenbock.

12oz. bottle poured into a Hefe glass. No bottled date.

(A)- Pours a hazy golden orange color that produced a light film of foam.

(S)- A light honeyed banana and lemon. Bits of dry wheat and a weird spiced carrot-like baby food smell at the end.

(T)- Very similar to the smell. A honeyed lemon and banana with a biscuit-like wheat dryness.

(M)- A decent carbonation level and balance. A tad thin for the style; smooth going down.

(D)- A decent hefeweiss. A bit thin, but certainly smooth and refreshing. I would have it again.

Pours a deep hazy golden amber color with a two finger off white head.

Smell is citrus and lemon zest, pretty good and refreshing smelling beer. One of the better wheat beer I have smelled lately.

Taste is of awesome citrus and orange flavors, some citrus and high carbonation. Very good and refreshing. I am a fan of this beer, especially for the price.

Mouthfeel is smooth with medium to high carbonation, very good and refreshing beer.

Highly drinkable and a great session beer for the summer months.

Pours a cloudy orange color with an average light tan head. Head falls to almost nothing. Very thin lace.

Big citrus wheat aroma. Yeast smell is nice.

Taste is unique. Has typical wheat style at first but immediately followed up by a sour tangy funky taste. Not sure I care for it.

Medium to thin in mouth with low carbonation.

Not a favorite although I typically like Central Waters.

A - One finger white head that fades to a lace within a couple of minutes. The beer is clear and golden brown. Tons of carbonation is present.

S - Strong smell of clove, coriander and spices. Also a nice strong wheat nose.

T - Spicy, clove, coriander but nothing that really smacks you right in the mouth. The beer has all the characteristics of a good hefeweizen but it just isn't as full as other hefeweizens from New Glarus and Sprecher.

M - Light bodied, ample carbonation that could be better. All the parts of a hefeweizen are present. Plenty of clove, coriander and a nice spice, but nothing is full enough to make it great.

D - Adequate hefeweizen that I could have occasionally, but not something I would take over New Glarus' Dancing Man Wheat.

Very clear pale amber color with multiple columns of bubbling. Not much in the head department though. The aroma has faded bananas and a hint of some grass, but a bit blander than I expected. Light toasted and very thin tasting bread malts upfront with an almost there yeasty banana flavor. Leaves much to be desired. The palate is watery and unbecoming. Very easy to drink becaue of the lackof charafacter overall.

bottle poured into a pub glass. pours a rich amber color with a finger of off white head that retains nicely and leaves light lacings.

aroma is rich with banana, spice, cloves, citrus and wheat malt. a very vibrant hefe profile in the nose. the wheat malt character seems to attach itself to the citrus and the banana, while the spice and cloves work their way around into the front of the aroma as the brew warms a bit.

taste is more of the same with a more pronounced spiced note. well composed with a wheat malt base upon which the spice and fruit notes lie. the spice tends to dominate the profile, giving the brew a unique profile when it comes to hefeweizens.

mouthfeel is light bodied with a spicy texture and a finish of residual spice and wheat malt.

drinkability is good. for a hefe, this is a well coposed example with a fresh and flavorful aura, along with a finish that is at once crisp and flavorful as well. a good seasonal offering from Central Waters. cheers!

This is not my favorite style, but I'm reviewing for the style, so...

A - Looks about right for a Weizen. Thin head great lacing. Deep golden color.

S - Yeast and phenols. A little flat smelling.

T - Definitely wheat. Sweet, flat, bubblegum and I dare say some potato-sausage.

MF - Sparkles a little, then a watery sort of 'hard-water' taste akin to an English Ale (only in the mouthfeel).

D - Very very easy to drink. Refreshing summer beer.

12 oz bottle poured into a Weiss glass. No date or info. [Re-review on 08-03-10]

A - Surprisingly dark and clear for a weizen-style beer, Whitewater is almost crystal in appearance with low carbonation in the light golden amber body. A low bone-colored head lingers in a thin pile leaving little lace in it's wake.

S - Supple, soft wheat floats out and surrounds the whole nose but is ultimately brought down by a reasonably strong aroma of dry grass clippings and husky-laced mulch-smelling hops. Traces of banana and bubble gum esters from an ever-present yeast poke out but are largely overshadowed by the earthy aroma.

T - Soft and smooth wheat and light pale malts are quickly overtaken by a harsh hop bite that mirrors the aroma in mulchy, earthiness. Again, the yeast esters of banana and bubble gum are just detectable in traces but a pinch of clove comes out.

M - Medium-light bodied, very soft, and smooth with a low carbonation feel to the finish. The good feel is abruptly shattered by a hoppy, hard bite to the finish.

D - This beer isn't enjoyable to me. It's far too earthy and the hops really disrupt the good going on. They need to either be backed off quite a bit. I don't think I'll be returning to this one again.

[The re-review was significantly better than the original bottle had (a D review - 2.25) but still not of the Central Waters caliber expected.]

This beer pours a cloudy dark orange color which is toward the darker end of the spectrum for a hefe, but still nice. The head is is two inches in height, and recedes slowly into nice lacing. The aroma is of banana bread, cloves, and lots more banana bread. The taste is along the same lines as the aroma. It is kind of like a cross between a hefe, and a dunkelweizen, and I really like that. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with effervescent carbonation, and a chewy texture. Overall, I really like this beer. Too many of the wheat beers out there taste too similar to each other. This beer is truly unique, and I applaud Central Waters for that. I will be sure to drink this again.

Hazy golden, decent head that fades to a slight ring.

Pleasant smell of clove and banana.

Wheat, clove and banana in the taste. Good balance, but flavors were somewhat muted and a bit watery though.

Mouthfeel a tad watery.

This was an easy drinking yet unmemorable hefeweizen. I'd have it again, but it didn't make a huge impression on me one way or the other.

12oz bottle.

Poured a medium and lightly hazy golden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of wheat, bananas, yeast, and spices. Tastes of wheat, spices and very light bananas. Light sour wheat finish. Overall a refreshing Hefe.

A vigorous pour musters an almost three-finger thick, pale tan colored head in my 25cl tulip glass. The beer is quite clear with an amber-copper hue, but shows a touch of haze and an orange-gold color when held up to the light. The aroma smells of cloves, aromatic fruit and bananas up front with dry, wheat-grain notes becoming more prominent towards the end. Aroma is decent, it does not have any off notes, but does seem to be lacking that little extra nudge to get it to greatness.

Clove flavors and lightly sweet grain up front produce some sweetness before the carbonation kicks in (as it is rolling across the tongue). The carbonation dries things out a bit and provides a bit of a peppery bite. This has a decent body to it, light enough to be drinkable, but with a bit of a silky texture that I like to find at least some of in a good Weizen. This finishes with a touch of wheat tartness as well as some lingering clove phenolics. There is also a touch of apple like fruitiness here as well as a touch of cracker like grain.

A decent example of a Hefe Weizen. It could use a bit more grain complexity and texture (would asking for a decoction mash be too unreasonable?), but this is certainly serviceable if one is in the mood for a Weizen.

Found this at cellar's in neenah.
dark amber/copper, frail head that drops without much lace.
Smells more like an american wheat than a hefe? Some lemon, some spiciness, possibly a bit of clove, but not picking up on banana. Some tartness in the aftertaste. Bought a 6 of this and a 6 of Hacker as part of the supplies for a party, and started wondering if the atmosphere was interfering with my ability to detect the classic hefeweizen tastes and aromas ... but cracking open a Hacker a few minutes later dispelled that idea.
Medium-bodied, fairly course carbonation.
drinkable as a beer (though not great), and the wife liked it, but not good within the context of the style.
