Had this on tap at Kuma's West Loop over the weekend and WOW was it good!! Pretty comparable to Bourbon County barleywine but lighter - this is supported by the 11.5% ABV vs 14+% for BCBBW. The beer guy at Kuma's mentioned the CWB has one of the best barrel-aging programs in the country--I'll be checking them out for sure!

The beer looks and smells good. A nice brown color with good head retention, and a smell of bourbon. The beer falls over because the bourbon taste is overwhelming. I taste a little bit of barleywine in there, but the bourbon overwhelms. I like bourbon, but this isn't what I expect from a bourbon barrel aged beer. I expect the bourbon to work with the beer, not overwhelm it.

12oz bottle into a tulip, 2017 vintage.

looks outstanding in the glass.beautiful clear reddish auburn body, small off white head which diminishes to a solid ring, leaving some okay lacing.

nothing on the nose, nothing good, nothing bad.

fairly aggressive tasting beer. significant hop presence, a little sweetness from the malt and alcohol, strong bourbon taste as well. as always, aging would mellow out some of these flavors, but I simply don't have the patience, lol.

heading towards full on the mouth, bitter and bourbon on the finish.

overall, at this young age, a fairly aggressive sipper of a beer.

Beautiful polished chestnut red with a creamy khaki collar.

Smell is sharp, woody fiery hops, pine, wood and brandy, while taste is a slick, syrupy rich bourbon, fiery pine, prune and red grape, with a thin body, bubbly carbonation and dry heat.

Pours a clear, deep garner with a finger of tan head.

Aroma is boozy barrel dominant.

Flavor has a rich toffee note, significant hop bite, plenty of buttery oak, vanilla, and a hot boozy finish.

Mouthfeel is moderately heavy tempered with decent carbonation.

Overall a fantastic take on the style. I'd love to visit this vintage 4 to 6 years from now, but it presents well right now. A bit edgy bitterness between the oak tannins and hop level, balances the toffee sweet malt base well.

Great beer and excellent approach to style.
Poured in a Mikasa Tulip- a light tea brown color with a one finger head.
Not totally opaque.

Raisin, toffee, and oak. Similar to Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. The color is lighter than Bigfoot as I recall.
Excellent MF- malty, easy to drink. Smooth.
Oak, raisin, toffee. Classic American Barleywine- so smooth.
Medium bitterness. I like this. Not a sharp edged bitterness as in Bigfoot.
I prefer this beer to Bigfoot, but both are excellent examples of American Barleywines.

Great beer. Serve at 50°.
