Aged in maple barrels, bourbon barrels, then double barreled into fresh bourbon barrels and lastly sent to slumber for two long years.

Solid black but with angrily burnt mocha edges under a short khaki to tan head dispersing to a flat bubbly ring leaving an amazing array of clear spirit legs on the glass after a tilt.

Fairly spicy hot, the barrel is extremely forward, and the body is somewhat light, albeit expressing a hypnotizing array of marshmallow, Tootsie Roll, charred oak and black pepper.

Again, it's a spicy spicy meatball, but I'm very happy to have lucked into this keg still unkicked towards the end of the Great Taste of the Midwest pre-game tap takeover.

Smooth stout with a wide range of barrel characteristics. The first sip was almost sour. Lots of oak and vanilla but it is a wide spectrum under control with lots of nuances. I’m picking up lots more chocolate as it warms. Definitely a bit boozey, but less so than expected for 17% abv. I had it aged a bit on draft which took the rough edges off but also probably is responsible for lack of foam.

Dark. Pours smooth. Deep sour taste with slight sweetness. Sip it! Both these breweries know how to make a stout! Amazing!

On tap. Light tan head. Black /dark brown color.

This is barrels. Warming. Lots of heat, but not in a bad way. Oak, bourbon, molasses, fudge, figs, caramel, and toffee. Ends with a lot of warming bourbon, marshmallow, and vanilla. Doesn’t taste like 17%.

Draft pour at CW.

Pitch black with nice viscosity (definitely more than many of CW’s other BA stouts!). No head present. At the nose is heavy bourbon and dark chocolates, not really any maple though. Upon my first sip, ton of bourbon with just hints of maple. I thought the amount of maple is perfect, it’s there but did not overwhelm like other maple stouts. Heavy rich sweetness with bittersweet chocolate, but still easy to sip, not like a sugar laden dessert. Hard to believe this is 17%, not really boozy. Medium to full body with very little carbonation. Outstanding beer from CW, really a step above from their other BA stouts. Not as complex as I hoped, but still enjoyable and I love seeing far CW can go in their barrel aging program!

Dark chocolate & deep layered mature oak & a hint of maple. Drinks way too smooth for 17%abv. Very, very well done. It takes the sting out of the $50 price point of the bottle.
