On tap at Stubbys

A - pours dark brown, no head to speak of

S - spiciness of rye, chocolate follows

T - fantastic, lots of the rye barrel, then coffee, roasted malt, just enough chocolate

M - smooth, thicker than the bourbon barrel aged

O - wow, a different take on a great beer, the rye barrel aging gives a unique twist to one of my favorites

22oz bottle, no date, 2018 release. Pours hazy brown with a smaller sized light khaki head. Smells of rye, caramel, cocoa, vanilla, and some earthy hops. The taste follows exactly with roasted malt shining through. Very clean profile. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Thin body and lower carbonation for the style. Noticeable alcohol presence. Overall, while clean and drinkable, the flavors are a little one-dimensional and muted.

Being a new beer I was not sure what to expect. The Rye Chocolate Porter is very good, the Coffee Stout is a bit weak imo. This exceeded what I expected just good and probably better than their regular BA Stout. Good job !

Wow! Right-off-the-bat nice... Incredible whiskey potency - three years in rye barrels really nails that barrel-aged goodness - bursting with molasses, chocolate, vanilla, and sweet rye whiskey - 2018 release purchased at Total Wine... Not quite pitch black - has some brown translucence around the edges and looks dark brown on the pour... Produced a fleeting finger of creamy beige head in an over-sized snifter... Body feels great though - probably a little better than medium weight, but with a roundness that just wraps the tongue in sweet chocolaty whiskey and molasses jam... The level of whiskey imparted is up their with the big boys of the barrel-aged stouts, and so is the beer itself... A real winner... Fans of barrel-aged stouts should not pass this up...
