Really nice store. Huge, fantastic selection. A very helpful staff person helped me from the moment I stepped inside the door. Helped me find Great Lakes, No Da, Clown Shoes and many other breweries I was looking for. I went home with a ton of great beer. Don't overlook this great beer store when you are in Charlotte.

Has one aisle of bottles (bombers, 750's and singles) along with a couple of end caps. Has another aisle of 4/6/12 packs. Good selection of the major brewers. Decent Belgian and Lambic section. Also has the 'impulse buy' section of beers near the customer service desk. Not bad, but definitely prefer the smaller guys.

EDIT 8/10/15: One thing for sure, check the dates on the IPAs. Was looking to buy a double IPA. Checked the date and it was a year old. Checked other IPAs and there quite a few that are out of date...no acceptable.

Amazing selection. Top shelf to domestics. A bit on the pricey side. They have tastings and stuff, food offerings, and a ton of wine selections so if you need to get some wine for your wife or a party it just makes sense. I will always remember that they have local growlers (limited selection) and kegs for sale. Parking was not too bad considering the area. Honestly, I didn't give the service a chance, because I was running late, but they did a great job at check out. The beers were not sorted in a way that made sense to me. The dark beers were distributed in other areas.

This store reminds me a lot of the total wine store in Delaware. A bit like a supermarket, great selection. The singles aisle is loaded. I love that. Good selection of imports as well. I didn't encounter any staff until check out, but seemed friendly enough. Prices were good as well. I would recomnend checking this place out when in Charlotte.

This place is great - they have thousands of wines and beers... Literally thousands. It is a warehouse (very nice inside) of every type of beer, wine, cider, etc you can possibly think of. The staff is suprisingly very knowledgeable about the selections and if they don't know, they wont BS you and will help you find out. They also offer beer and wine tastings that I want to try out soon. If they are out, they will get more - I just wish they could order things from other distributors (b/c they dont have distribution rights for that area) but aparently it is against the law and if they can't get it, no one in the area can get it...

Good box store with a nice selection of brews. If you're in the store a lot, ask different folks questions about beer & they'll push you towards the people with knowledge on the subject. Once you know who to approach, you'll get better service.

Everything's laid out nicely, great selection of singles & bombers & priced affordably. Pretty good selection of cold brews as well as some local growlers & kegs too.

I like this store a lot, especially because of the location; Duckworth's is just across the parking lot with about 70 quality drafts and Brawley's (cool local mom & pop craft store) is just across the street. Combine the three and you've got a reason to drive into the area from a bit of distance.

Stopped in here a couple of weeks ago while in town... At first glance this particular store seemed pretty similar to every other Total Wine I've been to, but after taking my time going through all the beer sections, I was pretty impressed.

Variety of craft six-packs was about the same as their other Charlotte-area locations and much better than the Charleston, SC store. Also, a huge selection of singles and bombers - some arranged with matching glassware (!!?), and a good spread in the fridge, including pre-filled OMB growlers. Being that it was late August, they had plenty of Oktoberfests and Pumpkin Ales on display at the front of the store. The thing that really struck me about this location was the organization of everything... all sixers, singles and bombers were on the shelves with their respective descriptions / price tags. Very clean store, organized and well maintained.

Staff was helpful. Check dates on bottles when you can, just to make sure they're not out of date (my main gripe with TW).

Probably my new Total Wine of choice in NC / SC.

Not a bad place. Not as good as other Total Wine locations I have been to. Has the standard BMC bullshit that they have to have and a fair selection of craft and imports, nothing that you can't get anywhere else. Good quality, no employees to be found though. Atmosphere is your standard retail store, nothing more, nothing less. Value is fine, Total Wine is one of the better places as far as price. I think the place could use a lot more as far as selection goes, especially with Brawley's right down the street and on that level they can't compete.

All-around, pretty standard. They definitely have a ton of different beers, but nothing that's terribly hard to find. I would've liked to see a little better local offering.

Service was fine. Quickly asked a guy stocking shelves if they had any Bitches Brew left and he said that he was pretty sure they were sold out. All I really needed to know.

Overall, not bad. It's right across the street from Brawley's, and literally next to Duckworth's, so I'm not exactly sure what compelled me to go in...but I was pretty pleased.

I thought this was a pretty typical Total Wine. They have a great selection of standard offerings in both six packs and singles. It includes lots of local beers, favorites from throughout the US and European classics.

But they don't have much in the way of special releases or harder to find beers. I was hoping to find some Old Hickory or something else I couldn't get in Raleigh but no such luck.

This Total Wine is a great place as a regular but don't go out of your way to find anything particularly different.

I liked Total Wine Charlotte (University area) more than I thought I would. You enter the store and immediately a shelf of single beers greets you. There you'll find not only Belgians (Chimay, Delirium) but British and Scottish (Brewdog!), also Germans. I bought a bottle of Brewdog Paradox Macallan at $11.99. Had never seen it before... also lots of American craft singles and seasonals.

Walk further down to the beer aisle and you'll find the usual suspects (Stone, Flying Dog, Dogfish) plus local beer at reasonable-but-slightly-high prices (two dollars more per pack than Frugal MacDoogal's). I did find a nice pack of 2009 Old Stock (hard to find in other states).

The selection here is not huge but well-curated and should please the locals. I would go back!

Wow what a great beer shopping selection in the area when you combine to great stores in the same area. Brawleys and Total Wine... If one doesn't have what you want the other does. This Total Wine has a good selection and is well organized as all Total Wines are. Employees have fair knowledge and are always very helpful. This was a smaller store for TW then I'm used to because it doesn't have liquor but they did have a great beer selection and some beers I wanted that Brawley's didn't. Quality was solid. Most of the bottles that had dates on them were really fresh. Turnover of this store for inventory looks like it's good, so stuff isn;t sitting forever. Like I said I can impagine that most locals come from all over to shop in this area because it has to the two best destinations for buying in the area.

Stopped by for the first time the other day. The place is definately geared more toward wine, but that is expected given the name. They seem to have a fairly decent selection of the more mainstream craft beers. Not the best place if you are looking for rare beers or one offs. The presentation of the beer is well maintained, seems to be sorted by country, and the prices are clearly visible. I like the fact that you can build mixed sixers. The pricing is pretty well on par with most other establishments in the area.

Didn't even know this place existed until a recent trip to Brawley's when a friend and I decided to stop in.

Having moved to NYC several years ago, this place was exactly what I was looking for due to the fact that they let you take singles out of just about every beer they offer. I was able to grab a large sampling of regional offerings at a reasonable price and was pretty thrilled about it - something I couldn't do at Brawley's. The selection of craft brews is pretty good, and they have extensive coverage of regular regional offerings. All beer is organized by country, a system I prefer over organization by style.

That being said, this is not the kind of store you go to looking for rare bombers or one-off's. I can't imagine they get anything rarer than seasonals, and the bomber selection was very limited and mainly Eurocentric.

Staff knew little to nothing about beer, but that was to be expected in a place called Total Wine. Prices were also pretty reasonable for the singles, which are always a bit more expensive, and I didn't really look at the 6 pack prices.

Good place to go for a visitor, but I can easily see why Brawley's rules the Charlotte metro roost.

Good selection. There's not a lot of exotic beers here, but the selection is better than any grocery store. Most of the breweries available in NC are represented here, but you won't find many seasonals or special brews.

The best part about this place is the sale of singles in the "build your own 6-pack" section. It's a great way to try common craft beers that you don't want a whole 6 pack of.

The store is about 75% wine, and most of the customer service seems to be on that side. The staff is friendly and I've always got the help I've needed.

To be honest, the only reason I ever go here anymore is Brawley's has been closed a couple of times when I got there on Sunday evenings, (not sure of Brawley's Sunday hours though). The selection and service is better at Brawley's.

I've really enjoyed making my own 6-packs at Total Wine. This location has a better selection of singles than the Mathews location or the University location. You aren't going to find any obscure hard to find beers here but it still ends up taking me a good 30min or so to sift through all they have and make my 6er.

I've always had good experiences with the staff at Total Wine. They are usually very knowledgable and enthusiastic. I don't think I've ever left the store without getting into a conversation about beer with an employee or customer for that matter.

From what I've read Brawley's is still the better location as far as selection and price. I've only recently heard of it through BA. I'll be sure and report my findings.

Stopped by here after Brawley's closed a bit earlier than I'd anticipated.

Quality is good. The majority of the beer is not in coolers and is far away from any sunlight, all the way in the back of the building. Nothing looked egregiously old.

Service was good. A guy came around asking if I needed help, but didn't know about Founder's or La Trappe/Koenigshoevin (sp?). Still, the place is called Total _Wine_ so I wasn't expecting a whole lot.

Selection was good, but not great. Tons and tons of singles which I'm not used to in GA, but there was nothing that I felt I had to have, especially after just leaving Brawley's.

Overall this is a good place to go for more mainstream micros, but even then Brawley's will probably still have them, and why not support the local business? Actually, this is also a good place to go if Brawley's has already closed - really the only reason I can think of why one would stop here.

I was just here today to check it out. Their beer selection is pretty average for Total Wine. Nice selection of craft beers, quite a bit of German, Belgian, and British/UK imports, and of course the more common stuff like American/Canadian macro brews. Nothing overly impressive though. I did find some stuff I never heard of before like Palma Louca, and Kronenbourg 1664. There were also a few German beers I never heard of either, but I can't remember their names. With Brawley's just half a mile away, there really isn't a good reason to stop here unless you just want more common beers.

Not nearly as good as the other location but this is sill a place worth visiting. The selection is halfway decent, no where near as good as brawleys but the prices are decent there is definitly a prominant wine section adn beer comes second here, but you can pretty much find what you are looking for. I would definitly go to Brawleys or even the other total wine if you get a chance though as this one is really lacking. Only thing you are gonna find is your rogue, great diviide a few belgians and your locals, nothing vintage or rare here so you can move one

First, this place caters mainly to wine afficionados. I'd say that maybe 25% of the store's inventory is geared towards beer. Maybe that's why it's called "Total Wine". But, they do have a pretty good selection of beer at competetive prices, including British, German, Belgian and U.S. beers. However, being that Brawley's is right across the street, I can't find any good reason why I would ever come back here again. Mike Brawley has every beer that Total Wine has and his prices are about the same. Plus, he's very much into craft beer. Bottom line: if you're interested in a bottle of wine and talking with someone who knows wine, then Total Wine is great. If your goal is craft beer, skip this place.

This is a wine store. They have beer, but it's wine that they cater to. If you want to buy beer, you should know what you want before you go.

I did not see the selection that you would think for the space that they have. I believe that Brawley's has a better selection, but way less space.

Service is not there, unless you want to buy wine. Very knowledgable about wine, but the person that I talked to didn't really know the layout of the beer department.

If you are this close to Brawley's, you might as well go there.

Asimiar to most Total Wines, except they have a really nice tasting area. Selection is very close to most TW's, perhaps a bit better. I stopped here after visiting Brawleys down the road. I expected to see a bunch of +6% beers since Brawley had SO many. All they had was Chimay, but I was told more was coming soon. Prices are average, in some cases a bit expensive. Singles are definately inflated $$. Service for beer stinks, no knowledgeble staff whan i was there. But it's really a wine store, and a great one at that. But now that out laws are more beer-friendly, they need to step up to the plate.

As I was leaving Brawley's heading North on Park I spotted the Total Wine sign and decided to stop in. The address is Woodlawn but you can get there from Woodlawn or from Park.

The place is the nicest Total Wine store I have ever been in. A glorious tasting area setup like a cafe, enclosed in glass atop a half wall in the glassed front of the store. Enough of that, to the back where the beer is hidden.

With the recent law change I expected to find all sorts of goodies on the shelves. Not a chance. Chimay was all, nothing else of note, just standard Total Wine fare and pricing.

A vendor offered me assistance with the address of the store, but store personnel were essentially useless which is a shame considering I was the only person in the store at 10 am. Perhaps I would stop in after going to Brawley's in case he was out of something, but for the most part this is a Total Wine location that I would not go out of my way to visit. Standard selection, crappy service, acceptable quality.

This is a new store located at the Park Rd./Woodlawn intersection. They have an extensive selection considering this states laws. Plenty of Rogues, sam smiths, north coast, etc. They even carry the Pranqster from north coast which is over 7% ABV. Not sure how they do that, but I won't complain. I only wish they sold more beer glasses. Still, I find it a little better than the Total Wine on Independence/matthews. Check it out if you're in the area.
