500ml clear bottle poured into a Young's pint pot.

A. Nut brown coloured beer topped by a white foamy/soapy white head.

S. Roasted peanuts, honeycomb toffee.

T. Sweet chestnuts, chocolate malt, vanilla sweetness, peanut crunch.

M. Medium bodied, slightly carbonated.

D. A thoroughly enjoyable 'supermarket branded' beer from a great micro brewery. A very nice brew indeed.

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of Oct 2012. Described on the label as a winter ale with natural chestnut flavours.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear coppery-brown hue with medium carbonation. Yields a large head of frothy, off-white foam that subsides after a minute or so. An interesting, intensely nutty aroma with notes of sweet roasted chestnuts, peanuts, vanilla and a hint of marzipan and diacetyl. Rather dry.

The flavour is unusual and a bit hard to place. Tastes nutty, with a slightly sweet, roasty character and a bitter finish. Notes of sweet chestnuts, peanuts (like peanut candy), vanilla, roasted malt and stewed hops. Faint diacetyl in the background; slightly harsh upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and oily, with tingly carbonation. A bit thin and astringent - leaves the palate dry. Nutty aftertaste.

A unique ale - unlike anything else I've tried. The nutty character is distinct and dominates the flavour. The only downside is the rather watery body, and I would prefer more balanced malt flavours to accompany the nuttiness. Great if you like nuts with your beer - you no longer have to buy them separately. Personally, however, I probably won't be revisiting this one.

Clear 500ml bottle: best before Oct 2012, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 24th May 2012.

The looks a lovely reddy brown (chestnut) colour: on top a full head of bubbles.

Chocolate aroma with chestnuts? No, just chocolate really.

The taste is bitter chocolate with fizz, add some nutty flavours and you are almost there.

Body strength a bit watery for a 'warming winter beer' but it didn't detract from what I thought was a very good beer for a supermarket cheapo.
