A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2018. Acquired a while back from Waitrose. Described on the label as a dark, strong porter hopped with Goldings and with added natural plum flavouring.

A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A very deep reddish-brown hue that appears almost black in the glass. Produces a decent head of frothy beige foam that lasts for a moment or so before subsiding and dissipating.

S: Aroma of rich fruity plum with hints of plum jam, mild prunes, caramel malt, a touch of roasted grain, ale yeast and faint stewed hops. Good balance - very nice.

T: Tastes of sweet, fruity plums with notes of jam, prunes, caramel malt, subtle roasted grain, a twinge of molasses, ale yeast and stewed hops. Quite sweet, followed by a moderate malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and a somewhat insubstantial body for the style. Slightly astringent; dries the palate. Aftertaste of sweet, fruity plums, jam, roasted grain, caramel malt, ale yeast and stewed hops.

O: Excellent - an unusual offering from a brewery that favours tradition. The result is a superb beer that blends sweet fruit and dark ale. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are lovely: plums, sugar, dark malt, ale yeast and stewed hops. Body is OK but could be a tad thicker. Goes down a treat; perhaps not ideal for summer but would be great in the colder seasons. Well worth sampling if you have the chance.

Plum is dominant scent, but not too overdone for taste. Taste is like a standard porter: mildly sweet with some roastiness, and earthy more than bitter.

From a 500ml bottle.
Glossy black with strong plum smell and flavour. Not much chocolate or coffee but lots of sweet (rather than tart) plum and a hint of smokiness. Body is light with moderate carbonation and a dry finish. An interesting beer - I like the concept - but I'd prefer more porter and less plum.

Titanic Brewery "Plum Porter"
cask via handpump @ Ship & Mortar, Liverpool, UK on 1 MAY 2015

Notes: Dark brown with ruby highlights beneath a thin head of khaki.Good head retention and lacing. Fruity in the nose with some caramel and dark chocolate. There's some plum in the flavor but it's tempered by the dark malts. The caramel malts come through as well, which is nice, and not always the case with porters. Subtly buttery. Moderate to median bitterness balances. Some earthy/dark skinned fruit character gives it a touch of astringency - dry finish with some mild grassy and leafy hops and fruit lingering. Medium-light in body and smooth via cask-conditioning. Remarkably balanced and drinkable while still being a bit of an eye opener (unusual).

Bottled. Very dark chestnut brown. Thick head.
I detected the sweet plum immediately along with some caramel malt.
The initial strong sweet plummy taste changes to a demi-sec fruit flavour with a light astringent finish.
Quite smooth and drinkable for a short while.
Good but the plum overwhelms the true porter flavour. One is enough.

Contains natural plum flavouring. Pours brown/amber, small head. Aroma plums. Low bitterness. Sweet then astringent finish. Overall: A wonderful fruit beer. If it could get a supermarket listing, it would make the brewery millions!

Bottled
Black body with huge foaming off white head
Big aroma too , full on blackcurrant hubba Bubba nightmare
The flavour is that olde sweet shoppe favourite , blackcurrant liquorice
Not hugely beery but nice
