Family owned and operated liquor store, located just off the City West Link. Nearly a decade ago this was one of the best beer shops in Sydney. 5 years ago it would've been close to that mark as well.

Massive building, with plenty of off-street parking. It reminds me a bit inside of an old fashioned supermarket. Looking at it from the outside you have no idea of the scale of the shop within.

Full cases of bigger selling beer is kept on pallets in the back area at room temperature. The better beer selection is all refrigerated in a walk-in cool room. Best to wear a jacket if you plan a decent browse! Stock turnover can be a bit of an issue with things like Fullers India Pale Ale not discounted, but being sold 12 months past its best before date.

Service, unless asked, never extends beyond the usual hello, statement of price and telling you how much change at the counter. Still it is friendly enough.

The selection hasn't changed much in the time i have been shopping there in the last 9 years. Still a decent selection of English ales (Ringwood, Wychwood, Fullers, Sam Smith's etc) and tonnes of Italian ticks (mostly lagers). The Australian range is decent, but nothing limited release of late. Surprisingly they had around 8 Hahn Millenium Ales for sale, 13 years after release going for $35 each, which they must've decided to put on the shelves as i haven't seen there for sale there in at least 5 years. All in all, it is a range that hasn't moved with the times and kept up with wave after wave of imports from the US, Scandinavia and New Zealand, while the Australian range is basically treading water. The odd random bit of glassware for sale.

Value was mixed. Good on the Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout at $7, pricey on the case of Coopers Vintage at $100. Some good pricing on Samuel Smith's with others going for sub $8.

An alright shop to visit for some random ticks and some decent British stuff. But this place has been treading water for a long time. No longer one of the better beer shops in Sydney and it would take a fair bit of work to get back anywhere near that mark now.

The range is excellent... if you can brave the coolroom. A nice collection particularly of British Ales, and also East European beers.
I grabbed some Innes & Gunn, Hobgoblin, Fullers 1845.
But, the drawback was the Outback Brewing 5-pack. It was on special for $20, and probably for good reason. Either the beer is so crap noone buys it, or, it didn't move quick enough. Regardless, it was via Amatos that I rated my 3rd-all-time-favourite (the 1845). But also via Amatos that I rated my worst-ever beers. Worth visiting, but be cautious.

By Australian standards this is pretty good, a lot of Belgian, English, German beers to chose from, aswell as various random countries. At times however the freshness of some bottles is questiuonable. Some decent Aussie micros aswell. All up i think theres about 300 different beers to chose from. Which is a nice amount, but doesn't even come close to the better European beer shops.
