Appearance – Dark brown in color with some ruby red highlights and a modest, retentive head.

Smell – The hard, unsulphored molasses aroma takes over at this nose. I can pick up some good, roasty malts but the molasses dominates.

Taste – The big, raw, unsweetened molasses leads the taste as well. I’m getting some good caramel notes as the bier warms to go with the nice dark malts and even a hint of coffee grounds.

Mouthfeel – This is medium-bodied with some stiff bitter notes. It is drying in between the cheeks.

Drinkability – This is a good, solid entry into the Black Beer market.

this one didnt wow me, its light for the style, more reddish than brown or black, and its got some haziness to it from the tap, doesnt look as clean and refined as i expect the german made examples of the style to be, definitely on the lighter side for the style too. neat to find it on tap though. it smells nutty, more middle malts than roasty dark ones, again very light for the style without the grain depth many of these have. the yeast is bready and european, there are some minerals in the mix, i get a dried fruitiness, dates or figs, and a little astringent tang that doesnt really belong to me. the flavor is similar, big raisin and toasted notes up front, short of roasted for sure, a bit of a chestnut vibe too, warming and autumnal, but there is a definite twang here that almost suggests bacterial infection, its not major, and it doesnt ruin the beer, but it definitely seems out of place here, unintentional, and it really thins this out, maybe its something from the ferment itself, maybe it crept in after, not sure, but its not ideal. combined with the lack of a deeper grain profile, i found this quite underwhelming, despite being more interesting than many of these are, it just didnt seem as high quality as i hoped it would be. i will have to try this one a little closer to the source some day...

Unknown vintage; drank 10/5/19 @ the Beer Temple.

Effervescent, with notes of root beer & sarsaparilla. This had nice flavor but was easy to quaff. Can't wait to have another!

Poured from a 330 ML bottle into a pint glass at Beer Head Pub in Schaumburg, IL. The appearance is a dark brown color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is a mellow dose of sweet malt. The taste is all malt with a crisp finish..

An odd-shaped bottle, for me?!? Thanks! A pleasant maltiness here, something I prefer in my favorite styles. Minimal hops bitterness to push me away from enjoying this, the malt profile leaves me satisfied with this beer.

This beer taste chocolatey & pleasant, but wait there's a problem the green bottle skunkiness that screwed this beer up. Which dim-witted fools idea was it to put this dark lager into green bottles? The only way I would try this beer again is if I can get it sealed up 6 pack box of it like how Kostritzer makes. Cheers! C-

Look as a dark cloudy chestnut with a fairly thick creamy mocha head.
Smell is very malty with a hint of cherry.
Taste is malty ,very bready. Nice bitterness.
Feel is smooth with good carbonation.
Overall about what you would expect a decent beer with nice characteristics but probably liked it the least of any of the Einbecker beers I've tried. Would have liked to have had a little more ABV and a richer flavor.

A: crystal clear; a reddish amber - almost mahogany in color; 1 finger off white head that receded to a thin collar; nice lacing;

S: sweet malt; cherry; a little bready;

T: sweet malt; no complexity; very little bitterness on the finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; dry finish; smooth;

O: maybe my least favorite beer from Einbecker;

Decanted from an 11.2 oz (330 ml) bottle into a conical pint glass.
A: Pours a crystal clear, copper to dark copper color with ruby highlights, a foamy, one to two finger, wheat colored head, rim retention, and limited lacing.
S: Aromas of caramel, macadamia, and pitted fruit.
T: Semisweet. Flavors follow the nose. Maybe a touch of cocoa. Balanced bitterness.
M: Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
O: Drinkable, but just. A bit disappointing.

A nice black lager, but I'm not sure how it is above average. It has the dark malt and the balance and the refreshing hops. The complete Schwarzbier.
