This beer pours to a thin, pebbly tan head on a very deep brown body. The nose is dark and sweet: cassis, plum and molasses with alcohol undertones. The palate is malty, slightly sweet with medium-roasted notes and hints of molasses and coffee that carry through to a nicely-balanced finish that lingers to the next sip. The body is perhaps a bit heavier than one would expect for a lager, and the lively carbonation allows it to build a slightly creamy texture. This is a great example of the style.

As noted by a previous reviewer, the green glass made me cautious, but I took the $1.95 plunge. It poured nicely, very little head, but a wonderfully deep and clear appearance. Though it was nearly black, its clarity really lets red edges shine.

The aroma is a husky malt wall. Its nicely complimented by the almost cidery flavors that must have been imparted by the yeast.

The taste is clean, crisp, and warmly malty. Not that complex, but a nice, pleasant afternoon drink.

Color was a dark brown, with ruby and garnet hues. Loved it. Probably not the color of a Schwarzbier, but....I loved it! Small fine head, with some lacing action. Mild malty nose, some bitter chocolate present, and even hints of dark fruit. Middle of the road mouthfeel. Slight malt flavor to start, toasted/roasted malt characteristics present, a bit bitter.... slightly astringent finish, with a the hops presenting themselves. Nice bier!

appearance; looks more like a Dunkel than a Schwarzbier. Clear and dark brown with a off-white head. Thin yet beautiful lacing.

smell; toasty, dark, caramel malts upfront, with a herbal hop spice that stays in the backround but grows stronger with a longer sniff.

taste; appearance aside, this taste like a Schwarzbier, one of my favorite styles and I'm pleased. Toasted and mildly lactic malty flavor but before it gets sweet and milky the hops take control and mellow it out. Still the hops are mostly hidden and leave some herbal flavor but not really any bitterness. Some distinctive malts hang around, they have an earthy taste that I find to be common in all of Einbecker beer, not sure but maybe it's thier base malt that they combine with others. A bit of bitterness in the aftertaste.

mouthfeel; very smooth at first, but gets slightly creamy in the finish. Slick on the palate and gentle with pleasing carbonation.

drinkability; goes down easy but gets boring after a while. Still very drinkable but average for a Schwarzbier.

Note; it might be better to call this a Dunkel, under that sort, I would say it's the best in the world.

Weak and small Head. Pours Dark Brown. Malty and almost pilsner aroma. I found that this is good meal beer because it doesn’t have a lot of carbonation. Probably better labeled as a dark pilsner as opposed to a traditional schwarzbier. Serve colder to get a better woody, smoky flavor.

A: 11.2oz bottle. Deep brown in color, nice froathy head. Limited lacing.

S: Chocolate, slight fruitiness.

T/M: Light body, smooth overall, medium carbonation, blended hops and chocolate perfection.

D: Do not drink this beer cold, room temperature only, recommended for all.

This was one pretty looking beer. Deep brown in color with lots of colorful highlights shining through. Taste was very even and went down really well. Flavors came at me with a sharp crispness. Toasted malts were there, caramel malt flavor followed, a roasted bitterness came through after that. Dark fruit taste was in the mix also. Well balanced and well crafted.

Poured from a 11.2oz bottle into a pint glass.

This one pours a ruby-tinged brown color with a finger of head that doesn't retain very well. The aroma is very nice and very strong for a schwarzbier. Full roasted malts pair with some nice chocolate and a hint of dark fruits. The taste is also quite nice, the roasted malts are very impressive here, working well with chocolate and caramel notes to create a very full-flavored beer at a low ABV. There's a bit of a prickly hop presence here as well, along with just a touch of raisins.

The body is fairly light, with plenty of carbonation to go around. The drinkability is pretty solid, even it does drink like something at a higher ABV. Overall, I enjoyed this beer. It's a good, flavorful schwarzbier.

Poured from short fat bottle to a tall thin glass. The liquid in brown not black, Ave carbonation. Nice 2 finger head that is fluffy and rocky it fade to a thin cover, not much lace.

The smell is very good, Lots of nice toasty roasted malt.

The taste follows the nose, very toasty indeed, some thin you would expect from a bigger beer.

The mouth feel is great, Nice light thin, if you want big thick and coating go get a RIS this is a black lager totally different style.

The drinkability is also very good. A very fine example of this style. Prosit Und Zum Wohl. MK

A special thanks to my brother-in-law for this one.

This beer pours a very dark chocolate color with a creamy tan head.

The aroma is very powerful. There is a very deep roasted aroma that smells almost like a porter.

The initial taste is very deep and rich. It is smokey, but not burnt.

The middle of the taste is very rich with a smokey caramel taste.

This schwarzbier finishes well. The smokey taste remains, as does a hint of caramel, but unlike many schwarzbiers, there is no lingering bitter aftertaste.

This is one of the best schwarzbiers that I have had. I would highly recommend this beer.

This beer pours a very dark amber color with very small head and a little lacing on the glass. The aroma is sweet and fruity - very pleasant. Alcohol is also slightly apparent in the nose. Malt is very apparent in the flavor. It is very smooth and the mouthfeel is very good. The fruit taste is pretty strong in the taste, making it very pleasant on the tongue. Great beer.

11.2oz green bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a dark copper brown with ruby-red highlights and a thin light tan head. Smells strongly of caramel with coffee and chocolate playing strong supporting roles. Tastes very roasty with chocolate and coffee at the fore. Caramel and hints of continental hops are also present. Flavors are a bit more subtle than expected but mesh rather well. On the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Not the most robust Schwarzbier I've tried, but there's nothing wrong with this one. It's tasty and very drinkable. A solid Schwarzbier.

Serving Type: 11.2fl oz bottle

Appearance: Pours a Extremely dark brown(almost black), sadly w/ no head though.

Smell: Plenty of malt, and some rich caramel

Taste/mouthfeel: Sharp hoppy bite at the beginning that slowly fades leaving a earthy and caramel taste that dances lightly on the tongue. The beer has a slight chocolate taste to it and the caramel becomes more pronounced as the beer warms. Slight carbonation and the beer goes down smooth leaving a slight warm feeling in the top of your mouth

Drinkability: Very enjoyable although not the best Schwarzbier I've had

This beer poured a deep dark brown with a single-finger head. The smell is filled with candy-like malt with some caramel and toffee. The taste starts off with a little hit of hops that gives way to some roasted caramel-tasting malt with a hint of nuttiness in the finish. The mouthfeel is slick and slightly thick without a ton of carbonation. A very tasty beer that is also fairly a drinkable, a great choice that everyone who's interested in the style should try.

Appearance:
Nice dark brown in color. Clear with a medium head.

Smell:
Malty and miild smell. Sweet smell... almost like whooper candy's and coffee.

Taste:
Taste is a little lighter than I would expect from this style. First thing that I taste is malty flavor. Finish is clean and crisp. I really enjoy this.

Mouthfeel:
Pretty light in mouth. Crisp with carbonation but remains creamy due to the flavor.

Drinkability:
This beer goes down pretty smooth and has a great taste. This is a top pick of the style for me.

This Schwarzbier is a dark-red color, transparent, with a slightly tanned neck. The aroma emanates caramelly malt tones with vigor, with noble hopes in the background. The taste displays medium carbonation, the same caramel, and coffee tones. The sensation is very refreshing, and very soft, and the taste is super fast - the beer slides fast in the palate. The aftertaste is malty and shows noble hops. Definitely a good pick for the end of Winter.

Very nice Schwarzbier, great head leaving a nice lacy pattern on the glass, mild malty flavour, with a raisin overtone.
Mouthfeel was nice, let you know you are drinking a beer, a bit of a musty back of the mouth taste tho, other than that an excellent version of Black Beer

Poured into a snifter glass. Deep brown, almost glossy black body with a billowing, rocky white head. Looked great at first pour, but I was a bit let down when the head left rapidly. Strange. But I blame it on me, not the beer.
Smell was a sticky sweet with malt and bisuit. Not overpowering and not as much as the big head would suggest. It wasn't very complex, but nice nonetheless.
Taste hits off with some sharpness and strawberry hints. The malt gives it some sweetness. Then the strangest taste. I swear a grape Jolly Rancher was dropped in this beer. For a second that's what it tasted like, then it goes away. Leaves a bit of a nutty or fig residue. Finishes with a bit of sourness and bite.
Good beer.
