look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

It pours a very dark brown with reddish hues shining through.

Roasted malt in the smell along with a distinct hoppy bitterness.

Roasted malt bitterness up front with a biscuit malt and grain kick backing that up.

Light bodied with medium carbonation.

A very good Schwarzbier.

A: poured into a Pokal to a deep brown with a small off white head that retains well with a little lacing
S: smells of toasted malt and caramel
T: tastes of caramel, toasted malt, a little dark fruit, some hop bitterness. swallow is bready malt with some more caramel sweetness
M: on the lighter side but not watery with good carbonation and a refreshing finish
O: Very impressive with a lot of complexity and flavor without being a heavy hitting beer. Definitely a pleasure to drink.

(bottle code: L1039042L 11 - poured into a pilsner glass)

A: burgundy in color - not nearly at all black - very clear liquid... fizzy foam that settles into a thin island of suds

S: cola, root (beer), roasty malts and toasted aromas via decoction... dark fruits - prune, dried cherry - fairly bold, perhaps the intensity and character of which stems from oxidation? still smells appealing... a dry, moderately toasty bread crust... nothing hop-like

T: root, molasses... fair amount of lightly bittersweet of dark chocolate, bits of coffee grounds... overall taste falls in between a Dunkel and Schwarzbier, leaning toward the latter, lacking perhaps the dirtier depth of malt in the former... quite pleasant rounded bitterness in the finish, lingering through into the aftertaste

M: smooth and quite clean with a slightly silky slickness... little-to-no play from carbonation... overall, perhaps a touch thin for my taste

O: this bottle may very well have been a bit old, but the beer was still quite drinkable... downed it relatively swiftly... would love to try this fresher or on tap
