De Belgiuminabox. En copa Grimbergen. Jugando a Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Con queso de Codi. Pues la verdad es que no me ha sabido mucho a miel. Simplemente una belgian strong palé normalita, sin mucho que decir ni para bien ni para mal.

Not sure what to make of this beer.
And with a wide range of ratings, it seems there is no consensus.
Let me say that this is a very different beer produced by a small, quirky Belgian brewery with only two beers getting any distribution in the this country.
It adds up that this is a square peg that doesn't fit the round style of a Belgian pale strong.
For my tastes, the hops last too long too go with food.

Reviewed in MJ's "Great Beers of Belgium" and likes this brewery and beer. A short quotation of his review "Bieken (punningly a bee) is based on Pilsener malts. Curacao peels give a fruity edge to balance the sweetness of the honey... with an appetizing dryness in the finish."

Color: light yellow, clear. Foam white, compact, solid and substantial. Long remains in a glass, it is decorated nicely.
Aroma: caramel with a touch of lemon and light maltiness.
Taste: malty with hints of honey and caramel, lemon wanders somewhere far away in the background.
Gentian: clear, sharp, alcohol, a little bothered. High saturation, quickly causes a feeling of satiety. Alcohol slightly perceptible, can be.

Light honey aromas with light lemon and light malt. Pours cloudy gold with a 1” fluffy foam head, dissipates to a thin film that produces good lacing. Some small particles are also suspended in the beer. Spicy palate with light fruit, traces of honey, bitter finish. Very creamy medium body with above average carbonation. Carbonation is crisp with a little bite.

330 ml bottle, at home. Poured into my tulip glass. ABV 8,5%. Deep orange copper colour. No activity in the glass, but a beautiful, tall, white head on top. Soapy in texture, with very good retention, leaving heavy lacing behind. Floral and citrus hops on the aroma, with some light alcohol and spice notes. Great! Light bitter taste, becomes even more bitter on the aftertaste, with a nice, long finish. Medium thick on the body, carbonation a little bit above average. Overall, nice beer, bitter and refreshing.

Poured into a Gouyasse tulip glass. Pours a slightly hazy, light yellowish golden amber. Two finger fine white head with good retention and tons of lacing. Aroma of bready malt, light fruit juice, Belgian spicing and a hint of mineral water. Flavor is bready and biscuit malt with apple and pear juice, honey and hints of tropical fruit. Spice and light hops bitterness in the finish with a hint of oak. Medium bodied with good mouth feel from the active carbonation. Although the flavors are somewhat subdued, the ABV is well covered. A very pleasant and refreshing Belgian pale ale I will certainly revisit.

Pours a slightly murky honey yellow with a foamy bone colored head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink. Smell is of toasted malt, grain, honey, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a medium herbal bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is pretty tasty and easy to drink.

750 ml bottle into tulip, no bottle dating(but must be quite aged, I got it on clearance). Pours very cloudy orange amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of honey, apple, pear, apricot, earth, herbal, floral, bread, light pepper, and light yeast spices. Pretty nice and interesting aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of caramel, apple, pear, honey, bread, earth, herbal, pepper, and yeast spices. Lingering notes of caramel, honey, apple, pear, bread, herbal, pepper, floral, earth, and light yeast spices on the finish for a good bit. Very nice malt sweetness to peppery flavor balance; with nice complexity and no cloying sweetness at all. A bit of an earthy tang on the finish as well, but not bad. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Belgian strong pale ale. Very nice flavor balance and complexity; very pleasant and smooth to sip on. Despite the questionable age, this was still quite enjoyable; and certainly worth the 5 dollars I paid for the bottle.

B+

750ml into a tulip. Pours a mildly hazed golden yellow, dense towering yellow cream colored head slow to recede, excellent clumpy froth.

Doughy yeast, an abundance of sweet fruits, mild spice.

Taste is a pleasant sweetness which rolls into a balanced phenloic dry note which trails off accompanied by a light bitter. Medium to full bodied creamy mouthfeel. Well balanced brew.
cheers

330ml bottle. Snifter glass. Notes dated on may´11. Golden color headed by white froth. Small bubbled, slowly dissipated crown. Honey & candy aromas, granny Smith apple touch. Flavor is malty, gentle sweet with spiced hues.Medium body, medium carbonation. Subtle fruity notes in the middle. Low bitterness cuts clean sweetness. Interesting, flavorful beer.

Looks like orange juice, unfiltered, cloudy and full of some debris with a large fluffy white head leaving sticky lace behind and holding long retention.

Cracker, and biscuit riddled malts with light honey, grassy hops, lemon, sweet and bready. Some other fruity aspects some tropical notes pineapple, and mango with a sliver of nectarine.

Nice refreshing carbonation and a chewy, creamy mouthfeel. Long finish with prominent honey flavors throughout. Sweet in the middle but drying out on the finish. Again very bready and crackery. Some salty notes, lemongrass, pineapple, earthy, grassy hops, and a bit of phenolic like notes of clove.

Nice golden ale with a touch of honey.

Presentation: 75 cl brown capped bottle. White label with an illustration of a girl lying dressed up as a bee. Small narrative with brewing tradition and main characteristics. Shows 8.5% Alc. by Vol. Served in a tulip glass.

A - Hazy deep gold pour, generous frothy head with good retention, good memory lacing and some splashes of lacing.

S - Softly sweet nose, fruity notes with the soft touch of honey.

T - The flavor profile expands nicely a somewhat simple but well rounded sweet range, yeast, honey, bready notes with a good sense of light honey.

M - Medium body and carbonation with nice smoothness punctuated by a soft dry finish.

O - Good flow, it has a nice fresh sense overall.

Notes: Surprised by how generally derided this brew is, and pleasantly surprised after trying it. Sure enough, it may not be extraordinary under the style or overtly remarkable, but it works pretty well and it is a nice drink.

750ml capped bottle.

It pours a yellowish gold with a slight bit of haziness. It had a big, foamy, white head that dissipates with thick lacing.

The aroma is moderately spicy with a noticeable sweetness, some bready malt, and a bit of fruitiness. The hops are noticeable and add to the fruitiness.

The flavor is earthy and musty. It has a lot of malted barley flavors, and a lot of spice from the Belgian yeast. There is a slight bit of hops in the finish that adds some herbal notes.

It is a decent beer, the flavor isn't really wowing but it is pretty light and drinkable.

This was a very interesting beer. You either love it or hate it. I didn't mind it too much, I thought it was pretty good. Not the bets beer I ever had, but still good enough.

Pours into a glass, with a fluffy white creamy head, decent lacing that clings to the edges.

The aroma is of strong musty barn like smells mixed with honey and maybe sugar cane. I smell flowers, very mild fruit, and some citrus.

The taste is of a nice honey, slightly sweet, it cups your palate. Decent carbonation helps keep a linger in your mouth well after consumption. This beer has some complexities to it that are very unique within its flavor. There is a sweet citrus or lime characteristic mixed with barn yard hay like notes.

Overall, this was a interesting beer, not my favorite, but still goof to try, good to drink, and good to have around.

Not bad beer. Poured with a fine foamy off white head and good fine lace. Color is clear lemonade yellow. Aroma is spicey, yeasty, grainy, and honey. Flavor is about the same with honey pronounced at the end. Good body and strong fine carbonation. Finish is like flavor with alcohol coming out after the honey. A session beer for slow drinking in the right mood.

Pours a clear amber with a short white head.

Nose honey and floral spice.

Mouthfeel is medium to full with a nice viscous mouthfeel when the beer warms up to room termperature. Temperature on this one made the beer go from night to day; from mediocre to very good. My comments are on the beer at room temperature.

Flavors of spice and honey and a very light carmel malt character-hints of fruit and hint of banana. Cooked fruit and honey elegant finish with just a hint of bitter carmel and hop.

Didn't like this beer cold; at room temperature this was much better, perhaps even good, and it was excellent with Chinese food.

A- Hazy golden color with a large off white head. Very lively carbonation.

A- Spicy belgian yeast quality. Sweet smell as well.

T- Spicy belgian taste. Slightly tart finish. Sweet spiced malt taste. On the label described as a honey flavor.

M- Medium body with moderate to high carbonation. Very smooth to drink.

D- I recommend letting this warm up a bit passed fridge temperatures. It just got more and more enjoyable.

The beer pours a honey gold color with very good head retention and lacing. The nose on this beer is quite exotic. I get orange, honey, butter and tootsie roll, maybe some cherry and vanilla as well. As expected, this beer is fairly sweet, but is also hugely complex. Flavors in include orange lemonade, vanilla, almond and tootsie roll (again), all on a moderately sweet frame. However, the beer somehow manages a fairly dry infinish, which enhances its drinkability IMO. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, but with a light, dry finish. Drinkability is pretty good, though given how rich it is, I can't really imagine drinking more then one. Nevertheless, I quite liked this beer and wouldn't hesitate to order it again.

Pours hazy gold with a nice, thick white head. Sweet honey, lemon, bread, fig, and yeast aroma. Very flat and muted taste. Honey and yeast dominate, but with a lot of flour/dough and corn in the way. It felt like there was nothing there after a while. Sorry, this was not good.

Pours a cloudy golden amber color with a thin foamy white head. Aroma of crisp light fruit, honey and citrus hops. Crisp light fruit flavors such as apple, pear and grape with a subtle touch of honey which is not overbaring or too sweet. I thought the honey flavor would be more prominent but it is very minimal.
