Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty yellow color ale with a large foamy head with good retention. Aroma of light tropical fruits with some resin and light rubber notes is quite particular. Taste is also dominated by tropical fruit notes with some resin notes and light rubbery notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Interesting take on this hops flavours but not sure I am totally convinced.

750 mL corked and caged bottle from the LCBO; "enjoy before" date of Nov 24 2015 stamped onto the shoulder.

Pours a foggy golden-amber colour, topped off with approximately one inch of soapy, off white-coloured head. Retention is respectable; the froth slowly dies down over a period of 5-6 minutes, depositing a few patches of lace on the sides as it is reduced to a foamy cap and collar. Looks good to me, and it's equipped with a zippy aroma dominated almost entirely by Mosaic hop features - including grapefruit/lemon citrus, mango and passion fruit. Minor hints of pine resin, herbal hops and apricot also come through, with the meagre, grainy malt backing coming off as mostly an afterthought.

My first thought was that this brew seems to fall along the same lines as those session IPAs that were overpopulating the shelves this past summer - though I'll admit that this one's flavour is a little more robust and varied than average. Light flavours of grainy pale malt and caramelized sugar sweetness serve as a relatively neutral canvas for the Mosaic hops to build upon. Citrusy pink grapefruit and lemon pith harmonize nicely with the fruity, tropical notes of pineapple, passion fruit and honeydew melon. Its bitterness becomes a tad more resiny, grassy and herbal at the finish, building to a brief apex as you swallow. Tropical/stone fruit sweetness in the aftertaste, with some persistent pithy bitterness on the palate. Light-medium in body, with moderate carbonation levels that establish a crisp, refreshing feel on the palate; very smooth-drinking, and supremely quaffable.

Final Grade: 4.09, an A-. Mosaic is one of my personal favourite hop strains, and this addition to Muskoka's Moonlight Kettle series is a perfect example as to why. In spite of this brew's near-silent malt bill, one type of hop manages to produce such a mind-bogglingly vast array of tantalizing flavours, ranging from pithy citrus, to juicy tropical fruit, to resiny pine and back again. It's a solid pale ale that I would consider well worth sampling, although I doubt I'd repurchase it - unless, perhaps, it sees a future release in a more appropriate format - say, tallboy cans?

750ml caged and corked bottle, the latest in Muskoka's 'Moonlight Kettle' series of purported late-night brewing inspirations.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale copper amber hue, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some stringy bands of sudsy lace around the glass as things slowly and evenly subside.

It smells of dank pine resin, a heady orange, red grapefruit, and slightly melon-like fruitiness, gritty, grainy pale malt, a touch of bready caramel, further musty and musky tropical fruit esters, subtly spicy yeast, and an additional leafy, herbal, and grassy hop bitterness. The taste is less dank, and more tropically fruity in its initial hop blast, with a sturdy grainy and caramelized maltiness backing it up, some fleshy melon notes kicking about, the yeast seeming to now know to keep its freaking head down, and the typical greenish herbal, leafy, and wet grassy hops just cruising right along.

The bubbles are fairly tight, with gentle probing tendencies in their robust frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and smooth enough, I suppose, as the hops are looking the other way right about now, or something. It finishes off-dry, the exotic fruitiness the most telling characteristic of this single-hopped, er, hop affair.

A pretty engaging and enjoyable 'untamed' brew - they somehow corralled it into these large-format serving vessels to be shipped clear across the country, so wild, this ain't. What it is, then, is a splendid showcase for what the Mosaic hop can do for you, and all your hoppy ale needs.

Clear golden colour, thumb of head with some retention and sporadic lacing. Nose is insanely fruity, hints of grassy hops and subtle caramel backbone. Flavors are much the same as the nose, very fruity, mangoes, pineapple, nice sweet candied lemon lingers on the finish. Medium bodied, smooth and a touch of dryness. A very well crafted APA, and definitely worth trying.

reviewed form notes

Lightly hazed golden orange colour, whip of white head, no lace. Smell is hoppy, big tropical fruit with pineapple and grapefruit at the forefront, light malty points as well. Taste starts out moderately bitter, pineapple and grapefruit, a light diactyl/buttery taste in the finish, light malty backbone, drying finish. Medium carbonation, medium body and a slight slickness. This was pretty good, would appreciate a 12oz or tall can though.
