Notes:
We made this easy-drinking kölsch in honour of our late friend Kirk Evans. He loved life, and where he was, the laughs were there too. Kirby’s Kölsch is a crisp session beer with a hint of peach, best enjoyed with friends. Cheers to Kirby!
Crisp malt character blends with hints of fruit notes from the fresh peach juice. Lively carbonation with a clean and crisp finish

Pours a barely hazy, light orange body with a nice bit of soapy, well-retained head at the top. The aroma has lots of citrus notes, as well as peach and apricot hops, and only a faint sweetness over a rich malt backbone. The taste brings up a fair bit of citrus from the hops with just faint bitterness and floral at the back. The malt is quite strong in its biscuity nature, similar to other Muskoka ales. The feel is altogether alright, though the high carbonation clashes a bit with the delicate floral notes that remain on the palette. Overall the beer is alright, and something I'd consider drinking again. Cheers, Kirby.

A: Translucent pale straw yellow colour. Bubbly and a considerable amount of off white foamy head that eventually receded slightly but lingered.
S: Faint in smell but quite pleasant. A herbal slightly leafy spicy funky yeast and alcohol aroma with hints of resiny pine.
T: Fruity with some apricot and peach flavors. Spicy and leafy hops. Some sweet and toasty toffee malt towards the end. Almost not at all bitter. A faint but lightly lingering aftertaste.
F: Despite the head and bubbles this beer is nearly flat. Very smooth and just a little coating.
O: Not the most refreshing or crisp in terms of taste or feel. Sort of seems watered down. Drinkable but I think there are going to be better tasting and just as drinkable beers out there.

Purchased 3 cases from my favorite ghetto grocery store at 2.99 a six and 5 days out of date. I was afraid of it due to the peach but as I was staring at the pile of cases 2 dudes pulled up and filled their carts. They said if you like a Kolsch buy it. I grabbed a 4 pack, cracked one open in the parking lot and went back in an bought 3 cases. Now I am not a "tootie fruity" beer guy but if you didn't tell me it was peach I would not had picked it out. I found it true to form. It has that sweet German beer taste up front - but not too much - and a bitter finish - but not too bitter. It was very tasty for a 4.6 ABV beer. Poured an attractive golden color with ample head. I enjoyed it very very much.

A standard Kölsch. It’s good, it does the job to help me relax as I make the dinner on a cold Sunday evening in January but it’s not great. The Kölsch I used to drink in Vancouver at Cactus Club was great: or was that the ambiance? Who knows. This is worth a try though

Kolsh - Ah yes, the ale that wants to be a lager is what they used to say in Germany :-)
Poured from 473 ml can
A: light golden colour with nice white head and a decent retention; fine lacing
A: malted cereal, a hit of earthy notes, nothing much...
T: mild impact - and what you don't get on the nose, you can taste it - stone fruits, peach apricot, but also a bit of dried seasonings; it has earthy notes as well...
When it comes to body, i would go with medium (-). You can definitely feel the weight, and if you just give it a few seconds, it will get just a little bit oily.
Pair with Spanish cheese& fresh Basil & olive oil
Overall I am very glad to see Canadian breweries making Kolsch - it is very drinkable and no surprises style of beer.
Cheers!

Muskoka Brewery "Kirby's Kolsch"
11.5 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "ENJOY BEFORE 08 FEB 2017" and sampled on 17 JAN 2017
$1.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Although it's unfiltered Kirby's Kolsch pours a fairly clear golden body beneath a frothy head of bright white. The head retention is good, and it leaves small spots and splashes of lace as it goes.
The aroma is clean and bright, expressing golden, grainy malt and grassy and spicy hops with just a little bit of peach that appears more like apricot.
It's medium-light in body, and delicately crisp and then smooth across the palate with a fine-bubbled median carbonation.
The peach is fuller in the flavor, and like peach, not apricot, although if you didn't know it was in there to begin with you might not notice it, or would perhaps imagine that it was fruitiness from the yeast. That's a good thing because it doesn't distract from what is a really nicely done, well-balanced Kölsch-style beer. On the other hand, maybe that's bad because they may have wasted their money in adding the peach juice. Or not, the peach does show in the finish and that's fairly nice and pretty unique.
Overall it's far more like a Kölsch than a fruit beer, and nicely done at that. Drinkability is the goal of a Kölsch, and they've nailed it on that point. Worth trying.

I'm not generally a fan of the style, but this one works some for me. Not so sweet, not so doughy, not so chewy. Reasonably well balanced malt and hoppiness. A little fruity on the nose. Slightly bitter citrus finish. Drinks well enough and would probably be suitable as a transition beer if you're trying to wean somebody off of macro crap.
Pale hazy yellow under a moderate head that settles to a ring. Some nice spotty lace. Looks good enough.

Pours straw gold with vigorous streams of carbonation. The big frothy cap lasts the whole glass and coats it with chunks and ridges of lace. Wet grains, bread dough and rye spiciness in the aroma. The taste leads off with clean, bready pale malts followed by herbal, sea air hops. Light vegetal or sulfury notes in the back, sort of like a pilsner, but pleasant, not a detraction. The mouthfeel is light bodied with a full, active carbonation. Medium to light bitterness and some grainy, cracker maltiness in the finish.
This is an excellent Kolsch. Great depth of malt character and a perfect hop accompaniment. Try it, it's straightforward but excellently executed.
