Look: Dark brown, with a tawny head 2 finger head. After 5 minutes the head has turned to a small full cover across the top.

Smell: Milk chocolate and leather.

Taste: Sweet milk chocolate, slightly nutty with a leathery backend.

Feel: Soft, creamy and round.

An excellent American style stout. This earns a strong A-

Muskoka Brewery’s Shinnicked Stout. 5.2% alc. Infused with Muskoka Roastery’s signature Lumberjack Coffee. Nice chocolate and coffee notes. Toasted malt, too. Great brew. Let it warm a bit before enjoying. Medium to full body. Grade:
A.

This one poured a very dark brown with a nice thick tan head. Coffee and chocolate are very present in the smell. Nice dark coffee taste , a little bitter. A little thin on the mouthfeel but a good stout.

A: poured from a 16 oz can into a pint glass, dark brown with a creamy tan head that lingers leaving good lacing, clear

S: coffee, roasted malt, nuts, leather, tobacco

T: roasted walnuts, coffee, light bitter hop finish, overall very malt forward balanced by a European earthy hop bitterness

F: light, feels more like a porter

O: nice smells and flavors in this one, it drinks more like a porter than a stout

Moderate head that doesn't hang around or lace or any of that. Dark coffee colour. Nose is dominated by coffee with some malt. The flavour profile is more chocolate. Chocolate syrup, mostly sweet with an underbite of malt and some bitterness. Thin bodied.

I like coffee and I like chocolate, so this one works for me. It's simple, probably sweeter than your average stout. No ashiness or chalk. Not boozy at all.

I had a 20 ounce "pint" at a local pub with my first Canadian Thanksgiving meal. The menu claimed that it was an oat stout, but the primary flavor here is (bittersweet) coffee. That was fine, but not exactly what I expected. It was a little thin for a stout.

Opaque black color with a very light copper hue. Slightly creamy light brown 2 finger head, lasting around 5-10 minutes, with good legs but average swirl reaction. Flavors of coffee, chocolate, dark grains, light berries, toffee, and herbal hops. Slick and smooth medium body with light carbonation. Medium strength finish, a bit fruity and leafy, while the coffee feel is richly present and definite star here it's only moderately roasted. Decent freshness and well bodied, almost milky, but gets thin and dull quite fast. Overall pretty good quality craft.

Appearance - Pours a dark chocolate brown with two fingers of bubbly tan head.

Smell - roasted malts, coffee bean, earthy and leafy hops, cocoa, caramel, bready malts, and earthy yeast.

Taste - Roasted malts followed by the coffee bean. The earthy and leafy hops come through next. The brew is finished by the cocoa, bready malts, and earthy yeast.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth with the roasted malts and coffee bean lingering.

Overall - A pleasant surprise to have Muskoka's offerings back in Cowtown! A brew that is balanced and exemplifies all elements of the style well. We shall see what other future offerings Muskoka will bring our way.

473ml can - 'shinnicked' almost sounds like a mildly bad curse word. Made with Lumberjack Roast coffee.

This beer pours a clear (maybe), very dark brown colour, with prominent amber basal edges, and three fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat creamy tan head, which leaves some splotchy hoar frost lace around the glass as it evenly sinks out of sight.

It smells of rich artisanal coffee, bready and doughy caramel malt, some free-range char, bittersweet cocoa powder, faint anise spice, and some plain earthy, musty, and floral green hops. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, dry cafe-au-lait, medium chocolate wafers, some ethereal wet roastiness, tame oily bar-top nuts, and more weak leafy, weedy, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite active in its palate-coating frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and sort of smooth, as that roasted quality takes things down a peg or so here. It finishes off-dry, the cocoa, caramel, and coffee all lingering as such.

Overall - this is certainly an agreeable enough version of the style, with the coffee addition judicious, to say the least. Balanced, well-rounded, and just the right kind of flavour for the first rainy day of the year (the kind that melts the rest of the snow in the back yard).

Black, beige foam, quckly falling down.
Coffee, toasted, full and intense. Malt, some light cocoa.
In the taste intense and pleasant coffee, and some cocoa again.
Maybe a bit monotone, but well done, clean, and easy drinkable.
Average body.
