While the legend of Mad Tom is laden with mystery and intrigue, one thing remains clear - Mad Tom did things his own way. Twice as Mad Tom is an aggressively twice dry-hopped Imperial India Pale Ale, that delivers a definitive hop aroma and unabashedly big bold flavor. We brew this beer with the road less traveled in mind, and in the spirit of old Mad Tom, we make no bones about it.

Considering its 8.4%, very drinkable, lots of hops and citrusy vibes going on. The lower alcohol Tom IPA is ultimately the superior brew but this gets a thumbs up from me as well.

Hazy light gold with a thick even head. Full tropical hop nose, juicy. Full malt body, quite smooth. Alcohol level is present but doesn't overpower. A strong Double IPA

A-Yellow with a chill haze and a solid white head with good lacing
S-Notes of ripe fruit, raisins and subtle pine
M-Medium body and carbonation, with a very assertive alcoholic punch that is not very pleasant
T-Sweet and alcoholic upfront with nutty notes and a push toward the high ABV
O-Was hoping this was somewhat more balanced. Great flavours but the alcohol is heavy and quite apparent

Straw coloured, no head or lacing. I’m not getting anything on the nose.
Taste is good, it hides it’s alcohol well, bitter and floral.

I'm up at my place at the northern most tip of Newfoundland. Good beer is hard to get here. My local liquor store hasn't had one IPA in more than two months, so I drove to the bigger store some 30 miles away.(The nearest store with a real selection is 300 miles away!) They had one case of four packs of 12oz. Muskoka Mad Tom and a case of Twice as Mad 16oz. singles. This is only the second time in the 20plus years I've been coming here that I've seen any double IPA up here--so I bought half of them for $4.29 each. Who knows if we'll ever see any more...ever.
This is a great brew, very much to my taste, which prefers lighter colored unroasted malt, which is quite fortunate as its the only double I can get. Very light yellow slightly gold colored with a decent head when poured into a big snifter(which I prefer with double IPAs and Belgian Tripels). Very refreshing fruity hoppy taste without the dankness that seems to overwhelm too many other doubles. There's definitely some alcohol here, but it is never the dominant note. This stuff feels right at home with the Stone Ruination 2.0 and Enjoy Bys and with my one darker double Dogfish 90. On a scale of 1-10, this would get a 9.5. Awesome.

Decent ipa back in 2010, has not kept up with the trends or stood the test of time. Decent, but hardly adventurous.

16 oz can pours a bright almost clear golden with 3 fingers white head. Aroma of sweet citrus, mango, caramel malt. Taste is a bittersweet citrus, pine - hops predominant with well balanced bitterness throughout . Full bodied creamy mouthfeel. Excellent.
