Banana Bread BeerBanana Bread Beer
Notes: Long ago, ale was known as 'liquid bread'. We've used our long history of creating the finest malt blends & added fair-trade bananas to awaken the senses with a seriously fruity, rich, yet surprisingly versatile banana bread beer.

An inspired brew made with our own natural mineral water & fairtrade bananas. Tempting Banoffee aromas & flavors are balanced by the silky richness of a masterful malt blend & the peppery spice of the freshest, ripest hops.

1PT bottle. Best before 20 June 20

Pours a clear copper body with a white head. Visible carbonation. Moderate retention. Some thin lacing.

Heavy banana scent along with a sweetness that gives it a bubblegum effect. Somewhat prominent.

Taste has that Hubba bubba sweetness along with a little soda cracker. Dry finish. Slightly bitter aftertaste reminds me of a diet soda.

A little under carbonated.

This was my first fruit beer review so I tried to keep an open mind and review it true to the style. In trying to be fair, I may have even been a little overly generous with this score. The scent did deliver a huge amount of bananas as promised. but I really disliked that diet soda bitterness on the taste. It wasn't a "good bitterness" and for that reason this is a one and done beer for me. But I will give this style another try with something else...

Pours clear orange with a small white head that fades fast and leaves spotty lacing

The aroma is really authentic, banana esters, wheat, rich and slightly spicy yeast. Similar to a good hefe

Taste is banana up front, really sweet, definitely a molasses note in here, followed by a malty sweetness and a touch of hops

I’m left wishing this was a little heavier in feel, but the carbonation saves it from becoming too watery

Overall this is really solid, easy drinking but still interesting. Definitely true to its name and I quite enjoyed it

L: Surprisingly dark. A thin head lingers even after it fades down.

S: Banana bread! And a bit of malt.

T: This beer delivers on its name. The sweet taste of banana bread is upfront, with a tiny hit of bitter to remind you what you're drinking. Similar to a hefeweizen.

F: Medium-light smooth feel. It's nice to relish the flavor a bit.

O: You get what you expect with this beer. If you're a banana bread fan you should love this.

This one gets props for delivering what it promises: aromas and flavors of banana bread. Poured from 11.2-ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Deep copper color, with a thick off-white head that leaves quite a bit of spotty lacing. Banana, tart apple, and peppery spice are prominent on the nose and palate. The alcohol comes through quite strongly as the beer warms from cellar temperature. Although bananas are used in the brewing process, there is also an artificial "chemical" quality about the banana flavor that becomes more prominent as the beer warms. This is much less harsh on the palate when cold. That said, it is what it claims to be.

Presentation: 11.2 oz can. Can was in the refrigerator for 2 months before drinking, and the can had become sucked-in deformed in that period.
Pour: Nice orange/amber color, but almost no carbonation, just a few bubbles that quickly dissipated. No aroma to speak of.
Taste: FLAT. All carbonation is missing. A little bready malt taste, not unpleasant, but no trace of bananas. Not much alcohol here, and a mildly pleasant bready aftertaste. Pretty much a waste of time and money.

Drinking on Lido Beach, Sarasota, FL. Pours a nice amber color with fine head almost like a nitro. The smell is definitely that of smashed bananas (as you prepare them for banana bread). Feel is silky. Taste is full of smashed bananas, nuts and then malt. I dig the style like that of the pumpkin/imperial pumpkin ales.

Smells straight up like banana bread. The taste however, is lots of banana upfront but, the finish is so heavily spiced that the thought of this beer being a liquified banana bread is forgotten. Decent beer but, I wish it was toned down just a bit on the spices.

L- Ultra-dark amber, nearing pale chestnut. Pours with decent 5mm white head.
S- Smells strongly of bananas, nothing else stands out. I suspect this will soar or crash...
T- Oh heavens, it's certainly different. It's like banana-ade - as in what cherries are to cherry-ade, with a dry/carbonic twist in it's tail.
F- I don't think I've had more than 5-7 (out of 725 to date) beers that are as fruit-forward as this. It's not fruit-suggesting hops, it's physical fruit added and it results in it being the absolutely dominant feature of the profile.
O- After a few sips I am adjusting to it's novelty, I aim to finish it in due course but it's a curious thing and not one I'd choose to drink again.
500ml bottle.
p.s. about 1/4 way through the bottle I start registering notes of black pepper. A curious one.

Pours copper with a 1/4 inch white head. Moderate carbonation. Nice lacing.

Aroma of banana (isoamyl acetate) as soon as opened, which dissipated quickly. Bready notes.

Taste leaves a lot to be desired. No banana flavor to my palate. Sorta acidic.

Thin, watery mouthfeel. Semi-dry finish.

Disappointing. Another beer that sounds better than it tastes.

A dark and sweet brew. The flavour is somewhere between overripe banana and banana runts candy. The smell is much the same. If I have something negative to say about this beer, it would simply be that it lacks body. More toast and malt could really help carry the bread aspect it promises on the label. All that aside, I really like the stuff. A great beer to go along with some desert. You could dip donuts in this or pour a little on your ice cream if you wanted to. I can't drink more than a few in a night though and that's with palate cleansing beers in between.

This beer is one that I buy once or twice a year to satisfy cravings. Really nice and unique, but not a daily drinker for me.

Huge artificial banana smell hits you when you open the bottle, but vaporizes as soon as it hits your tongue. What you are left with is a bitter shell of a beer that barely should be drunk in the first place. It is almost as if the brewers forgot that they had to make a beer underneath their flavor additives.

Wells Banana Bread, 5.2% ABV. Pours pale orange with three fingers of white head. Nose is banana and malt, taste follows, slightly sweet, faint bitterness. Decent mouthfeel, overall excellent.

Presentation: 11.2 oz brown bottle with no dates. Served in a tulip.

Appearance: The one and a half finger head goes away fairly quickly and leaves behind a thin foam layer and a lot of lacing in sheets all over the glass. It's a slightly hazy amber color.

Smell: It's a sweet and pleasant smell of malt, milk chocolate and fresh, ripe bananas.

Taste: It's simple and sweet with grains and caramel at the begging, some bananas and then a bit of hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: It's light, refreshing and a bit watery with low carbonation.

Overall: There's a lot of banana on the nose and palate as advertised, which is nice. That said, it's too light in body to stand out and it feels a bit one-dimensional. It's still a good beer though.

The lack of body is odd, good smell and appearance. As it warms the banana flavor takes on an almost laffy taffy after taste. Interesting but flat in the middle.

This one looks like banana bread in the glass, this is a pretty beer to look at. Aroma has banana with hints of salt and honey. Flavor is banana sweet white bread along with some flowery hops lurking in the background.

Poured from a can into a pint glass at 40 degrees,

Look:Pours a clear copper color with a light head.
Aroma: Strong malt aromas of ripe banana, sweet biscuit and bread. Maybe some caramel and honey underneath.
Taste: Ripe banana, sweet bread malts, some banana laffy taffy, bubblegum, and honey too. It's just oversweet banana bread like you would expect
Feel: Yes, little carbonation. Very watery. Could do better.

Overall: Quite an interesting take on a beer. It's like a hefeweizen with less yeast, wheat. It has an artificial banana Laffy Taffy quality that is unique. One critique is it could use more carbonation. Not something you'd drink everyday, but interesting nonetheless.

Strong aroma of ripe banana, banana candy, malt, and a little grain
Taste was real, not artificial with plenty of banana. The base beer itself seemed a little sour and bitter which took away from this being very good

Look is that of a standard bitter, clarity higher than usual.

Nose is a lot of fun. Beyond any weizen... artificial banana flavour/ banana bread, very strong. Reminds me of local chocolate coated banana candy in my childhood. Not really at all like a hefe. Surprisingly pleasant.

Taste is much drier, even if the banana bread is still there. Hops and malty pale ale body in moderation. All good except the combination of banana bread flavour and hops takes some getting used to.

Overall, an intriguing version of pale ale with associations that actually do not lead where you expect them to go. Hard to say if I want to have another soon or many in a row. The combination of bitter and banana bread leaves a feeling something is missing. It's like an Aventinus with banana to the max, hops up front and the body gone. I think in this case it is not a zero-sum game. The body would need to increase as well. Then this would reach another level.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a fine, two finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of bready malt, bananas, light floral and toffee hints. Flavor is bready malt, authentic banana, fresh whole grain bread, light grassy hops. Finishes with spot-on banana bread flavor, down to a little vanilla. Nice medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this before. It was one of my introductions to the weird world of off-beat beers and an instant favorite. I haven't seen it for years, and thought it may not be as great as I though so many years ago. The initial taste is, good, with great banana flavor and sturdy malt, but a little attenuated and light; I wanted a bit more flavor depth. But then the finish has that remarkably true, real banana bread flavor that really is pleasant. Not for the banana bread intolerant, but a delightful idea and well made beer that lives up to its name.

My absolute favorite beer. I'm so happy I took a chance on this randomly at my local grocery store. It can be expensive and hard to find at bars, but whenever I come across it, I will always choose this beer.

Originally I thought this was just a novelty brew, but that would be a disservice to this fine beverage. It's got a strong copper hue, with a swell of distinct banana aroma. Pours a nice foam head, about two fingers. Taste is pleasant to say the least; strong banana, nut, bread flavors. I like to compare it to a meal in a glass. A refreshingly original beer—top marks.

Pours a bright copper color, small white head. Terrific aroma of bananas....but that's about it. Flavor has a hint of banana. My wife hates beer but wanted to try this, she actually drank 4oz of it. I'll leave it in the store next time.
