Bottle: Poured a clear light brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with minimal retention and some very light lacing. Aroma of banana notes is quite strong with light sweet notes also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by banana flavours with some sweet notes. Body is a bit light with medium carbonation. Interesting at first but the aroma gets to be a bit too much after a while.

Honey-colored and lots of carbonation, but not much of a head (though some nice, white lacing). Label says "Malt beverage brewed with bananas and banana flavor added." The smell and taste of the beer remind me not of banana bread or even mashed bananas but rather banana-flavored salt water taffy (but not nearly as sweet). A bit too watery for my taste. I was expecting something with a little more heft.

a - golden colour, good head to start but gone too quickly

s - definate banana smell with a hint of of yeasty/hops aroma

t - could taste the banana, quite sweat and yeasty taste, started ok but then grew a bit sickly.

m - found it was too carbonated, very gassy although the banana taste does give it that little bit of extra something???

d - would be very difficult to drink more than two in my opinion, found it a bit sickly and sticky after a while but overall not too bad, would definately try again

Poured this and compared along side an actual slice of banana bread. Poured a nice golden color with a thin head. The aroma is pretty much banana, and that's it. And sort of a fake banana smell, kind of like the runts candy banana. Same in the taste. A little malty, but just tons of banana that's not as fake as the candy, but not as real as an actual banana. Kind of thin, with nothing that really lasts. More of an interesting occasion beer than anything else.

A - Fair amount of head and moderate carbonation.
Amber color.

S - Banana Bread mingled with moderate spice and hops. I cannot detect anything else.

T - Interesting- in a good way. Although this isn't a wheat beer, the taste resembles the typical banana flavored wheat beer (Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse or Weihenstephaner hefe.) The banana taste is much more prevalent though. Very pleasant, but slightly bitter.

M - Dry, clean, and light.

D - This is an extremely drinkable beer for what it's worth.

BBD of 11/30/07

Pours an effervescent bronze with 2 fingers of white head. Zero lacing or head retention

S: Bananas of course & yeasty esters

T: Banana & some herbal hops up front. Dryness, lemony hops, & a little iron as this warms. I also detect a faint hint of sulphur also. Finishes with some grainynesss, bananas, dates, dryness & a touch of salt

MF: Thinnish with low carbonation

Drank average, nothing special here. Banana freaks may like this, was looking for a lot more breadyness to go with it. Makes me wish for some Bombardier on cask

Since I loved my mom's banana bread, I had to give this beer and try and see what it was like.

A -- Came in a funky bottle that sort of made it stand out on the store shelf. Pours a nice, clear, honey color with a little head; moderate carbonation

S -- All I can smell is banana (which could be good or could be bad depending on your preference)

T -- Strong taste of banana when you first sip; taste dissipates somewhat and the lingering taste is somewhat bitter;

M -- A bit watery although the carbonation lends itself well enough

D -- Easy to drink one but I don't know if I would have more than one;

Again, I wanted to try this because I love banana bread. I don't know if I would buy this over some other beers again but that doesn't mean it wasn't worth trying. Definitely fun and worth giving a shot.

Poured from 11.2oz bottle into Chimay goblet.

A - Clear, copper orange with no head retention.

S - Bananas! Estery with a little bit of hops in the background.

T - Dried banana chips followed quickly by bitterness. Not particularly balanced.

M - Very light, too much so, the banana flavor doesn't match with the mouthfeel.

Overall it needed to be richer and sweeter, the banana is there but easily overcome by the ESB nature of the beer.

16.09oz bottle into snifter.

A: Pours a darkish amber with a short lived frothy head that left behind a bubbly film the whole beer through. Fairly good retention of that film though. Patches of soapy spots of lace remained.
S: Dominant notes of synthetic banana. Smells a lot like banana pudding cups or banana taffy or candy or something. Underneath the fruity sweetness there are subtle notes of spices. Not picking up much bread. Slight roasted maltiness.
T: Not as much banana as the nose, but a bit more toasted bready flavor. The banana flavors taste a lot more real, like overly ripened bananas. Notes of honey in the finish. This beer has some sweetness to it, but the flavors were not as rich as I thought they'd be.
M: Prickly carbonation over a thin body and slick sugary mouthfeel.
D: If there was like an "imperial" or "extra" version of this where it was thicker and more flavorful I think it would be better. Overall it doesn't really taste bad, but there is something missing. Try it one then move on.

Poured a bourbon colored brown with perfect clarity, a very minimal head, which dissipated quickly and no lacing to speak of.

The aroma is of bourbon, bananas and bread.

The flavor is reminiscent of bananas, and bread with a slight pop of sour from a citrus note.

The mouthfeel was lively despite the lack of any head when poured, and very thin.

Drinkability is poor. Not much to like about this strange brew. Lacks richness one would expect to see from anything with bananas in it and it's lack of body and octane left me with no reason to every open another one.

A - Clear amber with a smallish head.

S - Nose is slightly skunky with some grass. Not much banana aroma.

T - OK there's some banana now, but it's really fighting to show up. Some nuttiness, light caramel and a crisp hopping.

M - Solid medium body but with a bit too much carbonation.

D - Definitely a solid, tasty brew that I wouldn't hesitate to drink again, but seems to miss on the banana somewhat

Seen this beer a lot and figured why not give it a go. I was forewarned that you really need to love banana for it and that is no lie.

Appearance: orange with some red but more of a dark burnt orange with a decent amount of lacing and little to no head.

Smell: holy hell banana off the bat. It's a very sweet smell and has a bit of vanilla coming through.

Taste: well its banana bread alright, you can even tell that it's toasted. The aftertaste is the slight issue as you get really strong cinnamon and nutmeg which with the smell of the banana makes it a bit powerful.

Mouthfeel: It's pretty smooth, light and not overly carbonated.

Drinkability: Here comes the problem. It's an absolutely gimmick beer much like Pumking is. Yes it succeeds in tasting like banana bread but after a while it gets to be too much and I love banana bread. This is a one time kind of beer that I don't think I'd have again, but it is worth a try.

I was told that people "love/hate" this beer, so I wanted to try it out. Pours a rusty orange color into the glass, with a thin head that disappeared quickly. Lots of carbonation noticed on the sides of the glass. The smell was like a freshly peeled banana, and gets your attention. The taste was a bit of a let down. It had more of a spiced winter warmer flavor, and not much banana. A unique beer to try once, but not something I want to have a lot of or have often. I am on the fence with the love/hate idea.

Single bottle from the LCBO. Pretty much had to try this, even though my "gimmick beer" radar was reading off the charts.

Poured into a short conical glass, enjoyed at a recent beer tasting.

Looks like your standard pub brown ale. Dark chestnut, thin off white head.

Nose is caramel, brown ale malt, and a distinct, sharp banana flavour. Overripe or artificial, can't tell which.

Delivered what it promised - a beer that tastes somewhat like banana bread. Or rather, a weak brown ale with over strong artificial banana flavour. The gimmick side wins this round. Thin bodied, sticky. A case of the English clear bottle ale effect.

Try one for the novelty, but I won't be getting again.

A: Crisp and bubbly deep golden pour. Really fizzly, soda like head... Surprisingly, it sticks around for a while after receding halfway.

S: Certainly banana... But like banana candies. Runts or whatnot. Malts are slightly noticable, but mostly that huge banana scent.

T: Kinda weird... The banana tastes artificial again. A little bitter with hops.

M + D: Kinda medium body... Sizzly carbonation like soda again... Fairly easy drinking but not all that great. Can't say I'm a fan, but the flavour isn't drainpour worthy.

My mom brought this back from a trip to BC.

Poured from a 500ml. bottle, best before 19/06/13.

Appearance: Nice 3 finger head above a copper colored body. Goes to an average ring in about 1 minute. Some lacing makes it not too bad.

Smell:Yeah, smells like bananas. Really strong actually, bit of the peel but nor much of the bread in there. A bit of a sweet side with some spicing. Get a bit of artificial in the finish.

Taste: Tastes more like banana bread with some nuts in it but artificial banana flavor is more pronounced in the flavor and kind of ruins it. Some harsh spicing in the finish doesn't help.

Mouthfeel: Good smoothness to start but the finish is a little waxy and plastic plus the middle is muddled a little.

Overall: Very average offering. I think i'll stick to Hefes for my banana fix in ale.

Purchased in Canton at Holiday Market

A: pours a faint orange with a carbonated head that dissipates fast and leaves zero lacing. Active carbonation and holds a small ring of head thru the experience. Nothing spectacular.

S: Best part of this beer is the smell. Fresh baked bread, crystal malt, and of course B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

T: Thin candied malts... bud light esq funk to it.. artificial banana mostly, but tastes much much better a bit warmer. Out of the fridge its crisp and tart. Light and very carbonated. Not too bad.. but dissapointing to me. Wish it had more body and fullness. Its just too... thin and simply... lacking.

M: Not much here, comes and goes. Thin and crisp.

Overall wish this beer had more depth and flavor. Too crisp and clean! But its worth picking up to try.. definitely a good beer, just wish it was an outstanding beer !
