I would normally never look at this beer, but my wife had heard it makes a great half n' half with Young's Double Chocolate Stout, so I picked up a 4 pack for her to try. But I'll give it the once-over on its own for the sake of a review.

Actually made with bananas, according to the label. Hmm. Wish I knew the base beer in order to make a true assessment.

L -- Pours a clear copper color into my Imperial Pint nonic. Thin, off-white head that quickly settles to a thin cap.

S -- Light banana esters, considering the use of the fruit. Not much more.

T -- Banana and vanilla characters up front, some light citrus notes in the middle, some mellow hop earthiness and bittering in the finish and aftertaste. The vanilla and banana combo encores in the aftertaste as well.

F -- Mouthfeel is soft to syrupy with a light-medium body.

O -- Probably not a beer I'd reach for consistently, but it's surprisingly drinkable. Probably a little heavier with banana than a Bavarian Hefeweizen, but not so overpowering that you think you're drinking a smoothie and not a beer. I imagine I'll have to try a swallow of my wife's half n' half when mixed, I can see the chocolate stout mixing well with the flavors.

It pours a nice light amber color. Lots of carbonation. Upon opening bottle and you can smell a sweet hint of banana and some malt. Fist sip you catch the bananas right off the bat. Not overwhelming or too sweet like some flavored beers. Actually really nice taste. Even a little peppery hint aftertaste which is nice. Not as "bread" tasting as I expected/hoped for. but it's definitely worth a try. I would definitely get it again.

A subtle banana taste, very nice. Has a good bread smell and taste...a bit yeasty (imagine that). Love the color. It's the perfect amber color, as in the semi-precious stone. Minimal head. Surprisingly very drinkable. Didn't have a lot of good expectations going into this one, but was pleasantly surprised. I will drink it again.

Look- Dark golden color with relatively no head. Was expecting more of a brown ale look.
Smell- Bananas is dominant in the nose but not overwhelming. Hints of bread, and light malt.
Taste- same as nose. Bananas, after taste of bread and light malt.
Feel- light and crisp. Very drinkable
Overall- Great beer for what it is. Seasonal brew that lives up to its name. Light, crisp and drinkable. Definitely worth a try if you are a fan of banana bread.

Let's admit it. This is not a beer to write home about. But it is a bit of a classic seasonal. It's been a few years, so I grabbed it again on a whim. Pours a copper to amber hue. Sandy head rises a finger or so high and quickly retreats. Smells of, well, a not too fragrant slice of banana bread, subtle spices of clove, cinnamon, and nut. Flavor is a smooth ESB like base that sways gently in the direction of banana bread. Like an homage. Mouthfeel is on the thinner side. Low carbonation. Overall, it is what it is. A smooth, approachable, allusion to banana bread.

Mouthfeel is sharp, crisp, bitter.

Overall, a beer i could not finish, but still interesting to taste.

Poured from the bottle into a glass.

Clear rusty brown hue.

Off-white head; decent lace.

Crazy strong banana smell; hint of cream soda.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Just like the nose, the flavor is banana & cream soda heavy. Nice but one is more than enough.

Got a can in fresh Market, heredia Costa Rica, 330ml, Abv 5.2%. The can says they used Fairtrade bananas and banana flavor.
Amber color, fizzy, white thin head that dissipates quickly, Banana aromas from the get-go It is not particularly natural but I like it (it reminds me banana bubble gum). Very aromatic brew. Sweet, malty and the banana backbone is present to the end, nice balance with the level of bitterness.
I writing this as I drink, and I love it!

Wells Banana Bread Beer brewed by Wells & Young's Ltd, with an ABV of 5.20% This brew pours out a deep golden amber color with a nice small white head. Thin lacing to this brew. The smell is rich with Banana Bread , grains and malts. The look and smell of this brew is really inviting. Now for the taste, is bold with flavors. You pick up banana, grains and malts. There are some nice hop notes in the taste of this brew. It does put you in the mind set of banana bread. This is a very different brews, but I like it. There is a lot going on in this brew, it also has a real good balance to it. There is nothing overpowering about this brew. The mouth feel of Wells Banana Bread Beer , banana, bold , clean, smooth , and refreshing. Overall I'm giving Wells Banana Bread Beer a 4.25 out of 5. I would buy this again. Wells & Young's Ltd, did a real nice job with this one. If you are a fan of banana bread look this one up.

when i was a kid i thought it was crazy how much this actually tastes like banana bread, and how cool it was the could use bananas in a beer without it getting all mushy textured and brown, but now that i know a bit more about brewing, i am quite sure there is no banana in here at all. it is likely a product of the yeast, more german than english here, soft of like a hefe strain can create a banana complexion, this is like that, only a little more supercharged, maybe some natural flavors or something too, but no whole fruit for certain. the grain aspect is as cool as the fruit one here, sweet and baked and sticky and not quite as heavy (from the can) as i remember it being (from the goofy bottle) back in the day. still, pretty round and sturdy base, just sweet enough, molasses notes, caramelized sugar, bagels, yummy! i dont mind the residual sweetness here, because it is what it promises to be. it was funn to compare this to the distant memory of it, i think its better than it gets credit for, certainly different, and perhaps a neat gateway beer to craft for those who have not yet found what they like. seems a short leap to an esb, hefe, or dunkelweiss from here...

33cl bottle

Appearance: clear orange/amber with low carbonation. Weak head that dissipates ultra fast.

Aroma: bananas, yes, but not so natural to me.

Taste: banana syrup, like those they prescribe to treat excessive coughing.

Mouthfeel: bland, medium to low body.

Overall: I didn't like it, tastes chemical and almost no malts.

Look: Golden amber/orange with carbonation and the perfect amount of head with sticky lacing.

Smell: Warm smell of fresh banana bread.

Taste: Citrusy in the front with slight banana and a very small touch of bitterness on the finish. Gets smoother as you go along.

Feel: Medium slighty bitter mouth feel.

Overall: Decent beer. Better than I was expecting. Comparable to a pumpkin type ale but much smoother without the spices and bitter end. Would buy again for a special occasion. 6/10.

12 oz can.
Lives up to its name ... This is like drinking a lager and eating banana bread but without the baking or chewing. Of course, actual banana bread can be much better than here; still, an impressive execution of the concept

Taste banana bread with all the flavors. Nuts spice banana yeast bread dough beer mineral water.
Mouthfeel is light with moderate carbonation. Finish is lightly dry and bitter sweet.
Overall a tasty special beer that I would buy again on special occasions.

Took forever to get around to this one. Bottle to snifter. Look is dark gold, totally clear. I thought it would be hazy with yeast. Smell is as advertised, banana for sure, plus that spice bouquet, clove and cinnamon. Taste brings the dark bread element in a brilliant way, no idea how they do it. More banana in the taste too. Feel is knocked down a couple ticks for the thin feel. I expected a thicker mouthfeel. Overall they nailed the banana bread, and this is a fun beer. Not world changing but very solid

This one pours a slightly orange tinted golden color with a decent and fast settling white head that leaves no noticeable lacing on the glass.

The nose is amazing. The banana is balanced with the floral hops that are sharp and sweet at the same time with hints of pepper, vanilla, pine, grass, and bread.

The taste is wonderful with a dry malted bed that has some nicely balanced banana flavors that have the peppery flavor of the hops all perfectly blended

The mouthfeel is just right for this particular beer, not too watery and not cloying.

Overall this is one exceptional beer. I wa shesitatnt about bananas and beer, but it works exceptionally well.

330ml bottle poured into a pils glass.

Crystal clear deep copper color, the pour forms up thick frothy off-white head that stands with good retention, it gradually disperses to a thin layer of long-lasting foamy sheet atop along with plenty of sticky lacing patch and spot on the glass-side.

Big ripe banana in a nose, not in a way you normally get from the yeast character of German’s Hefeweizen but it is real banana smell. In there, you will also get malt with a toffee and bread quality while hop is not left unspoken with a grassy, peppery, and lemony scent.

The flavor is a bit let down with not much of banana comparing with the aroma, however, it is still there providing some mellow banana sweetness. Malt in the middle with a bready and grainy taste while hop rounds all the things up at last with a lemony, grassy, peppery, and flash fading bitterness. Besides of the hop bitterness at the finish, there is also a residual note of mineral water.

Medium body with rather smooth mouthfeel through lively carbonation and some soft touch through the palate, finish is very dry.

Straightforward to its name, it really has smell and taste of banana bread even there is some attenuation on the taste side, still fairly good and pretty drinkable without doubt.

Poured 11.2 oz bottle into snifter glass. 5.2% abv

Appearance- Dark orange/brown with a thin white head. Very clear.

Smell- Loads of fresh banana. Caramel malt.

Taste- Bready malt with hints of caramel sweetness. Banana comes out quick, and intermingles with the sweet bready notes becoming the taste of babana bread deserving of its label. The finish of this beer is on the bitter side, but comes back around semi sweet and dry with a banana after taste.

Mouthfeel- Thin-medium in body with active carbonation.

Overall- This beer truly taste like banana bread. It is unlike some triples that have banana tasting fruit esters. This beer was made with fresh banana and is evident from the taste. I felt this beer was pretty smooth and is worthy of a second purchase. Definitely goes down easy.

I was anticipating a little too much. Maybe if I wouldn't have read a few reviews 1st. It was actually a fairly pleasant beer overall but thinking bananas and bread I was kind of thinking more along the lines of a hefeweisen.

Aroma is banana. Slight acetone, but not offensive. Appearance is clear yellowish brown. Taste is ash, alka-seltzer; citrus and banana are part of the aftertaste. Feel: Crisp, above average carbonation. Nothing special, but an interesting concept. Not a big fan of the banana anyway, but I've had some amazing beers (belgian mostly) with banana like flavors....this is not one of them.

This 5.2% ABV “Fruit/Vegetable Beer” by Well’s and Young’s Ltd is a great beer of its class.

Look-It pours a honey-like color with thin foamy head and sparse lacing.

Smell-Creamy, rich, malty, banana bread aromas characterize this brew.

Taste-The taste is full of fruity phenols focusing on banana and the bready malts that compose what I would say tastes like banana bread. It’s no surprise, but I was hoping that it would be both obvious and not too sweet or artificial. The mouthfeel is creamy, medium-bodied, and leaves a nice banana ester coating on the tongue.

Overall-It’s a good beer and is pretty much what you’d expect from the label. It’s one of those beers that you’d like to try once just to see what it is like.

Bought in a 16.9oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

L: Very nice deep orange-brown color and has a borderline champagne-like amount of bubbling going on. (Small bubbles that are constant.) The head poured pretty thin and bright white at first and dispersed very rapidly, which was surprising to me because the beer is actually decently thick. Pouring the final .9oz into my pint glass I pour hard and got a decent head built up, but it still bubbled away quickly.

S: It smells straight up like banana bread to me, I'm loving it. I literally was finding that I was taking huge sniffs of the beer on every sip because the smell was so fantastic.

T: Very banana on the nose and into the middle of the sip. Fades into a peppery hop flavor before ending on a pretty sharp bitterness. (It's really quite sweet and it needs the bitterness, but to me is is a midge over the top on the back end.) Overall, flavor is pretty good. Actually better than I expected. And I am a little biased positively because I love when brewers use peppery yeast and hop strains.

F: It is what I was hoping for after a long day. Smooth and thirst-quenching. As I said, bubbly for sure.

O: Wraps up pretty nicely. Good beer that I would drink it again. (Might be a safe bet if your buying for a picky girlfriend or something too!)

At $6 for a 16.9oz bottle in NH, I can probably find a better value.. But hey, if you're buying then I'm drinking!

I didn't expect this to be half as good as it actually is. I was more than pleasantly surprised at this high quality beer.

L: Beautiful copper color - 1 finger head with light lacing

S: Sweet yet hearty banana. It's amazing to me that I'm completely able to pick up why they call it banana bread beer instead of just banana beer just by the smell alone.

T: Another shocker - I expected to taste beer and banana flavoring, what I got was this beautiful mixed and flavorful substance that was a party of flavor on the tongue. It's funny, the easiest way I could describe the taste was banana, bread, and beer. Accurate labeling to a T

F: Medium thickness with carbonation that was just right! Very filling, I almost wish it was a tad less filling so I could have a few.

O: This was a beer that I didn't have high hopes for. This was a beer that I assumed would just be some flavored resemblance... an interesting fun thing that you drink once and forget about just to say that you've had it. Instead, this is now a part of the staples that I will continue to buy moving forward and will be a beer that I know I will have cravings for in the future. Although, it probably can an extra .25 or two due to overcoming poor expectations.
