Bananas, eh? I love a good Hefeweizen and the banana and spice that you get hen you drink up a good one. My initial thought was the marketing or tech guys might have decided to try an end run about the work of brewing a decent beer by just adding - what else - bananas!
</dubious>

First impression on opening the bottle is skunkiness, unfortunately. Damned clear glass bottles. The scent of bananas does manage to waft up out of the glass as I pour, but it's hard up against that skunk.

I gotta say though, that the beer looks awesome. Substantial head, nicely formed, that settles to a heavy film that gives up sheets of lace. Clear copper brew with just ebough active carbonation. Quite handsome.

The banana is there on the nose again before drinking, but there is nothing subtle about it, and its missing all the spice and nuance of a good hefewiezen. It might be an unfair comparison, but it's what immediately leaps to mind. Breadiness and fruit to taste. Not overpowering and, frankly, better than some other banana-based beers I've had. It benefits from coming across as being generally well-made.

Taking guidance from other reviews, I waited 'til this warmed up some, and that helped it along. Pleasant evenhanded banana flavour, good malty caramel backbone, hoppy finish.

Passable, but still a novelty beer to my mind, or an attempt to cheat another, more interesting, style.

Poured from a bottle into a glass, creating a thick foamy head and nice lacing. The beer had a golden hue with lively carbonation visible.

The smell here was no surprise: bananas and malts, mostly. Smelled tasty but other than that not very interesting or complex.

The taste was similar to the nose. A bread-y and banana-y taste (no surprise, due to the name) dominated. As the beer warmed, it improved, with more caramel flavors becoming apparent.

The mouthfeel was thin and light, and very easy to drink.

Overall, a fun and approachable beer. The banana taste is bold and clear, and this dominance might be enough to turn off drinkers who like to play with layers of complexity as they drink. Still, though, this is probably worth a try if the concept of a banana bread beer is enough to get you interested.

Appearance: It pours looking like a typical beer. It has a light amber color, with about a two finger head. The lacing is patchy and quite sparse.

Smell: I don't get much banana aroma at all in this beer, surprisingly. I was expecting a lot of fruity aromas. There's some in there, but not much. Really quit pleasant.

Taste: Tastes a little bit better than it smells. To be honest, it grew on me the longer I drank it. Some of my first few sips had a really weird sharp bitterness on the finish, but I didn't get it after I was halfway through until the end. The banana isn't overwhelming at all in this beer, and it fits in nicely. I see a lot of people complaining about this tasting artificial ... I don't think it tastes terribly artificial, but I can certainly tell it's there. Some of the aroma has that tangy, odd, banana sourness that I seem to only get from things like banana Taffy... real bananas don't get it. The nice bit of hops and spiciness in this beer came out a little bit more as the beer warmed, and only made me enjoy it more and more. I had initially planned on giving this beer about a 3.5 rating based on the first few slurps ... well, now you can see just how much I bumped it up. The mouthfeel is also nice on this beer ... a slight carbonation, and a fairly creamy texture.

A solid banana beer. The banana isn't overwhelming, and I wish I had bought another one.

Appears - Deep, inviting brown color. Little bit of a head.

Smells - Sweet, fruity, nice banana smell, but not overpowering.

Tastes - Hint of banana with a malty aftertaste.

Feels - A little lighter than the color would suggest. Not overly carbonated.

Overall - A good beer, especially for a fruit beer. Would recommend to try and will probably get again.

Used this to make a French toast recipe with but also enjoyed sipping on it while cooking. There are definite notes of fresh baked banana bread in the bouquet. Interesting initial first taste; the banana flavors are definite but also fairly subtle and not overwhelming and as the palate adapts they become even more understated. In fact the banana came out much more after cooking in the dish than in the actual drinking.
Not sure I would drink this all the time but as a novelty and change of pace its fun and a good time.
