Package: 11.2 ounce capped bottle. Says to serve before 12/17/05.
Appearance: Almost opaque very dark brown. Tan head with big bubbles which dissipated quickly.
Smell: Very sweet fruity wine/grape aroma. Alcohol presence is also very noticeable.
Taste: Delicious very sweet candy-like malt flavor up front. Roasted flavors and sweet fruity flavors come in next. Nutty and strong bitter aftertaste. The flavors all emerge very slowly and roll into one another very well. Very enjoyable taste.
Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy.
Drinkability: Extremely drinkable. Although the alcohol is detectable in the aroma, it is very well hidden in the taste. In fact, I couldn't taste any alcohol at all. You would never know the ABV is 12%!
Comments: Very enjoyable. She is definitely sweet. Will definitely remember this one. Highly recommended. Thanks to the MJ Beer Club International for this one.

At one point, I was all about the Belgians, but nowadays I seldom consume them. Still much respect.
Also, I don't mean to be a stickler, but this is at 11.5% ABV, not 12.
The pour is slightly brighter copper, but the head (which is gone in a jiffy) is typical of Belgian quad. So is the caramel, fig nose. The taste is spot on, following through the nose and adding raisins and yeast as well. Very nice out of my Westvleteren XII chalice (ooh, name dropping). Slightly bitter at the tail end, but it's still a nice representation. Of course it better be as a gold winner.
So all in all, drink with confidence.

Medium brown body with a touch of copper, hazy, rapidly forming a sandy head, fine, dense, and full, with great retention.
Malty aromas of banana bread, warm spices, caramel, a touch of apple pie, lovely fruity yeast.
Taste matches up with the aroma (spice cake, caramel, toffee, banana, dates), now accompanied by pleasantly warming alcohol heat, an almost spicy hop bite in the finish, and subtle lingering hints of chocolate; light, fine carbonation, medium body, and a feel that flows between softness and crisp bite. A touch too much residual sugar for my taste.
Comforting malt & yeast flavour make an interesting interplay across the palate, this is delicious and a great representation of Belgian style.

330ml bottle purchased from the LCBO for $5.20 CDN. Best before 08/09/2026. Served cold into a Westmalle trappist glass. Listed at 11.5% ABV.
Appearance - Chestnut brown, cloudy with a half finger of off tan head that dissipates pretty quick. Not much to speak of lacing wise either or with the head retention.
Smell - Dark fruits, raisins, plums and figs with a sprinkling of cherries. Brown sugar and molasses too.
Taste - Dark fruit again, raisins, plums and figs with some molasses. Low bitterness with booziness throughout. Fairly bready like a sourdough bread underneath.
Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied, expressive and prickly carbonation, Hot finish (as expected with 11.5% ABV). Fairly dry.
Overall - Not the best quad out there, but still a top notch beer that is very tasty and executes the style with mastery. Worth worth a tipple or three while it's in stock.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe (£4.09):
Dark caramel to mahogany with a 1cm, bubbly head that's tan-brown & covers the surface well with nice retention too. It's rich on the nose with cloves, a banana sweetness & some yeast initially with dates, plums & a few dried, dark fruits to finish. The taste is dark, semi-sweet & fairly complex with plum, raisins, a little yeast & faint touches of banana this time alongside some ripe fruits & spices nearer the end. It's a full-bodied, lively beer with strong carbonation & a good balance with the alcohol content very well hidden too.

330ml bottle. ABV 11.5%.
L: Dark brown with chestnut edging. Clouds of bubbles when backlit. One finger of foaming, beige-coloured head that quickly collapses to a smear.
S: Raisins soaked in oak-aged rum.
T: Black cherries, pears, plum pudding and alcohol. Sweet with a dry finish.
F: Rich & sticky, foaming carbonation, hot & boozy.
O: Not very experienced with quads but found this an enjoyable sipper. Warming, rich and soporative.

Medium: Capped + goblet.
Opacity: Almost opaque.
Color: Dark brown with a light copper hue.
Head: Creamy brown 1 finger.
Legs: Basic but lacing and swirl reaction is good.
Smell: Toffee/Toasty/Plums/Soft alcohol.
Taste: Raisins/Cherries/Cinnamon/Brown sugar/Belgian yeast/Herbal.
Feel: Dark esters/Spicy/Yeasty/Bready.
Body: Medium soft creamy and quite smooth.
Carbonation: Moderately crispy, long lasting.
Overall: Excellent quality "Quad"...more like a strong dark Belgian Ale because it doesn't really fit like a true rich quad, it's lighter and further uplifting than warming. Alcohol feel is almost none so really treacherous this one.

Freshness 5.5/10 - Intensity 8/10 - Complexity 8.5/10 - Appreciation 8.5/10
