Pours dark brown, with a big white head. Darker than expected. Aroma is apples, figs and some spice, along with dark malts. Flavor is dark candi sugar up front, followed by more apple and figs, along with some spicy notes and fruit. Aftertaste is pleasant and warming.

A

La Trappe. Dark dark mahogany with a dense frothy head.

Unmistakable aroma of a quad but perhaps a bit extra roasty and faint chocolate to my surprise plus some earth for good measure.

Delicious. Strong vinous characteristics. Very smooth on the tongue, creamy and rich. The alcohol is contradictory in that it is obvious yet well restrained and only slightly warming, very deceptive.

The dark fruits of a quad are hard to beat and this is a contender. Notes of a stout, born to be sipped.
