Clear, golden toned look, capably capped by creamy froth.

Soft nose, muted malt, quiet grains, speaking louder....nice.

Smooth, sweet, especially tasty on the tongue...was described to me as being akin to a blonde doppelbock, and I am definitely getting that now. Grainy texture, warming, gathering toward an almost brandyish feel, bold, brash, slick and thick, ...very classy, for a strong one. A good one to store away for the colder nights to come.

Very well-designed, great balance. Strong, but held together in such a way that the booziness never goes over the edge. Medium-bodied, long, malty finish...I like this, and will most likely return to it.

Brief impression from a $3 bottle purchased at a bodega in Brooklyn, NY.

Clear copper body with a white cap.

Aroma is musty. Pale malts, 6-row (or maybe actually 2-row), a blip of baked bread, some graininess, muted floral hop character, stale graham cracker, slightly doughy yeast. Aroma never betrays its high alcohol content, to my surprise. No off-notes or overt yeasty notes.

Taste also never betrays its alcohol content, but nevertheless the beer is shallow and simplistic. Hints of baked bread are favorable; hints of metallic off-flavour are not. Pale malt sweetness, 6 row sweetness, muted floral hop flavour. Some subtle amber malt toastiness as well. It's not an intricate or deep brew, but it's likable and enjoyable.

Texture is smooth, wet, medium-bodied, overcarbonated, and (actually) slightly refreshing. Not boozy, oily, gushed, hot, astringent, harsh, or scratchy. Suits the taste well enough but fails to elevate the beer as a whole or to accentuate specific flavours. More dryness would help bring out the best in this beer (i.e. the toastiness and baked bread notes).

Overall, it's a shockingly drinkable lager given its 8.7% ABV and I'd happily buy it at Polish prices, but it doesn't warrant another purchase at import prices in the U.S.A. In terms of European macrobrew beer, Zwyviec has always captured my fancy and this is no exception. Well worth trying if you come across it, but not an amazing brew in its style.

Great beer. Its light, adequately aromatic, flavorful, and extremely strong. It tastes very similar to Russian beers, specifically Baltica. For having such a high alcohol content (8.7%) it feels surprisingly light. I prefer it much better than Belgian beers which are typically heavy and sweet like maple syrup. If you can find a bottle, pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

O.K., SO MY USER NAME PRETTY MUCH SAYS IT ALL. I LOVE THIS BEER ICE COLD IN AN ANTIQUE STEIN. VERY SIMILAR TO SOME BELGIAN STRONG ALES, WITHOUT THE HEFTY PRICE. I CAN GET A CASE OF 20 FOR ABOUT 30 BUCKS. MALTY AND SWEET, BUT NOT OVERLY SWEET. SUBTLE HOP BITTERNESS, WHICH SUITS ME FINE - I AM NO HOP HEAD. A BIG BEER FOR THE BUCK AND, OBVIOUSLY, ONE OF MY FAVES. WORTH SEEKING OUT.

Chicago 1/22/16 (1.9 oz glass poured into standard pint glass in two pours_. Dark amber orange pour, mild white foam, heavy carbonation. Nice apple, grain and malt aroma and taste. Thin texture, pleasant to drink. Nice AV quick while you finish the bottle. Overall good offering.

To be honest with you, the history is more interesting to me than this beer.
Drilling down quickly from today, Elbrewery is one of five Polish brands owned by Zwiec Group, owned by Heineken ... all of which explains how we get so much of it. (I had thought a smart importer brings it in to Chicagoland tapping into our huge population of Poles... the importer does, but Heineken helps.) To buzz quickly through that bummer period when the state owned this brewery after WW2 and skip three centuries, it seems this city was one of the brewing centers of the entrepreneurial city-states of the Hanseatic League... which many urbanists today refer to as a better way to organize an economy than to let nation-states and federal states hold us back from the future... but I really digress more than my usual.

Hevelius has an unusual amber tone and interestingly has more viscous than foam. Smells fruity for a lager. Alcohol is not masked and I can't finish this bottle... but then, I too am becoming historical and reminisce for the days when ABV didn't bother me.

500ml bottle served in a nonic glass.

Look- Clear copper color. Modest off white head that recedes fairly quickly to a solid ring of foam, light lacing. Some very active carbonation streams visible.

Smell- Caramel malt and honey, red apple and pear, raisins and a bit of citrus and booze, floral/grassy notes.

Taste- Pear and red apple, lemony citrus, sweet malts and burnt sugar, light booze, faint floral/grassy hops and light spice.

Feel- Medium/light bodied. Crisp with a sweet finish, almost no hop bitterness. Medium carbonation on the tongue.

O- For being basically a Polish malt liquor this is surprisingly good! Blows American malt liquors out of the water and a great deal at about $2.50 a bottle.
