A- This one pours a dark chocolate color and seems to have some slight clearness to it when looking from underneath. The head starts out about a finger in thickness, is a very nice caramel color, and settles gently into a creamy frothy layer over the sits there throughout the experience. Carbonation is much too hard to see but lacing looks to be healthy, with a generous layer of artwork clinging to the inside of my glass!

S- Heavy coffee is noted right from start to finish, a smooth blend of rich chocolate malts alongside the black variety too to bitter things up. Fresh dark cocoa powder is present, fresh dark chocolate shavings, cream, vanilla bean, Earthy dryness, hints of baking spice and a lingering muted hop bitterness on the finish!

T- I get right away huge quantities of mocha coffee/cappuccino, caramel rich malt, blackstrap molasses, dark & semi sweet cocoa nibs, cocoa powder, hot chocolate powder, vanilla inspired cream, biscuity yeast richness, slightly burnt malts and toasty malted milk and a relatively clean, yet slightly bitter/dry hopped finish!

M/O- Super creamy mouthfeel, solid medium body and wee tight carbonation that reminds me of something one would get on tap! High drinkability factor.....I could enjoy more than one of these in a sitting or would love to enjoy this with a chocolate themed dessert! Will definitely purchase again and this borders a milk stout....O-SO GOOD!!

650ml bottle - subtitled 'Oso Negro', after the local artisanal coffee supplier, I do believe, whose wares are integral to this offering.

This beer pours a clear, very, very dark brown colour, with prominent amber basal edges, and three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat bubbly beige head, which leaves some decent layered frilly lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.

It smells of Coffee Crisp chocolate bars, grainy and bready caramel malt, some free-range char, a bit of black licorice, and rather tame earthy, leafy, and floral noble hops. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, dry cafe-au-lait, bittersweet cocoa powder, a hint of anise spice, faint black stone fruit, and more understated earthy, musty and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-propping frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and generally smooth, with even the coffee doing well not to interfere here. It finishes off-dry, the caramel, cocoa, and milky coffee presiding.

Overall - this is a pretty well-wrought coffee stout, the complexity of the guest java beans working in concert with a sturdy base brew. Pleasant, and easy enough to drink, even for this cuppa-Joe agnostic, though I do find the name here a tad gaudy, for the liquid itself.
