Praised as the one of the best stouts in British Columbia. This smooth black beauty compliments the roasted barley accents of a dry stout with the unmistakably rich and silky finish that only oatmeal can provide. Treat yourself by drizzling a fresh shot of local espresso into your pint of Blackheart.

Appearance - Pours a hazelnut brown with two fingers of mocha tan head.

Smell - earthy, leafy, and floral hops, oats, roasted malts, cocoa, dark chocolate, hint of coffee bean, vanilla bean, and earthy yeast.

Taste - earthy, leafy, and floral hops upfront. The roasted malts, oats, and coffee bean take precedence in this brew alongside a pleasant nuttiness. The cocoa, dark chocolate, vanilla bean, and earthy yeast round out the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes a tad thin for the style.

Overall - A brew that started off nicely but everything got lost in the taste. Not sure what happened. Perhaps they need to tweak the recipe a bit.

Poured from a 473ml can.
All in all a pretty good stout a bit thin on flavor but good. So many new brewery's in BC now there are better stouts out.
Worth the $5 for sure.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 30/11/13

A near black with a deep cola edge, two fingers of mocha foam leaves a thick ring followed by a a couple random patches

S coco, coffee, dry cereal, charred wood, not bad but its rather faint

T more of the same really, a little plum and there's more charred wood and the coffees a little darker

M thin for the color, foamy side of creamy, a little gritty on the palate, dark roast and dark fruit on the finish

O simple but decent, straightforward and a little boring but worth the 5$

basic stuff, I don't feel ripped off with my cheap bomber but I doubt I'd bother again with so much on the shelves I've yet to try

(from notes)
650ml bottle split with a friend.

A: dark, one finger of foamy tan head, cherry highlights when held to the light, but very, very dark.
S: dark, toasted malt. vanilla, coffee, caramel.
T: fairly bitter, dark roasty flavours
F: not overly thick, a wee bit puckery
O: Good. I'd probably prefer a slightly sweeter and maybe thicker style, but I'd buy this again.

Nelson Brewing 'Blackheart Organic Oatmeal Stout' @ 5.7% , served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $5

A-pour is dark brown from the bottle to near black in the glass , also some ruby red highlights peaking thru with a small tan head leaving as streaky lace along the pint glass

S-organic barley , oats , and hops

T-crisp tasting , similar to a RIS at times , with a slight dry finish

MF-mild carbonation , medium body

Ov-ok/good beer and at $5 a bomber what a steal
