Poured from a bottle into a snifter glass.

Look - very dark reddish brown, with about two fingers' worth of light khaki-colored foam that dissipates somewhat quickly.

Smell - on the malty side, it's smells a bit fruity, especially close to a grape type of smell.

Taste - again very grape-ish in taste, almost like a grape soda. Can't discern much else in the taste. Mild aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - pretty well-balanced, but leans a bit on the watery side.

Overall - interesting taste, but not terribly thought-provoking.

330 ml. bottle. Brown colour, with red hints when you hold the glass to the light. Big off-white head that takes its time to fade. Smell of dark fruits, prunes, raisins, chocolate, toffee and vanilla. Strong body, good carbonation, thin and creamy palate. Taste of chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits and maybe a hint of cherries. A warm alcoholic feel aftertaste, and a great beer, imo.

A: Poured from a bottle to a goblet. Had a dark brown color and a murky consistency. There was an absolutely massive, creamy, off white, extremely long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A good aroma of fruit, yeast, and some malt.

T: Tasted of Belgian yeast, malt, a little caramel, apples, and dark fruit. Doesn't quite live up to the expectations of the appearance and smell, but it is a solid flavor.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a dry, smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A bit shaky in spots, but on the whole, a well done, drinkable beer.

[Best served in a Trappist glass]

The pour was a murky dark brown with a small (less than 1 finger) off white fizzy head that dissipated rapidly leaving behind a very thin film and small collar which did allow for some fair spotty streaks of lacing.

The aroma was of a dark bread malt and a doughy yeast with notes of toffee, honey, dark fruit (plums and raisins) and a mild alcohol tinge.

The taste was sweet and malty with hints of toffee and honey from the start with the finish being about the same but with a touch of dark fruit, a strong yeast presence and a moderate dose of alcohol at the end. The flavor lasted an average amount of time after the swallow with a nice fruity sweetness left on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was just short of medium in body with a mild syrupy texture and a nice strong carbonation.

Overall a really nice tasting Strong Ale with a superb drinkability...

Notes from sometime 2 years ago.

Appearance:
The beer itself is a dark red brown, which appears to be similar to toffee. The beer creates a fizzy, tan head with some lacing.

Smell:
I get a small whiff of alcohol and bitter hops with hints of yeast. In addition to the hops and yeast, I also get some dark fruits and brown sugar with caramel malts.

Taste:
I get a bit of alcohol, bitter hops, and burnt sugar malts with a caramel aftertaste.

Mouthfeel:
The alcohol gives a little bit of burn with some biting carbonation. The beer itself feels smooth and full bodied.

Overall:
This beer isn't too bad but I've had better strong dark ales.

I had a bottle of this last evening, a 750 mL bottle with a champagne style cork. I chilled it to about 46 degrees Fahrenheit and chose instead to drink it as a Bavarian might a regular Starkbier (which this indeed was), from a straight up glass.

The beer poured with a great malty head and a great dark copper colour. Great smell to it and an even better mouthfeel; I know nothing of this brewery's source for water, but I do know its incredibly soft and refreshing.

This beer went down very easily and for the 7.99 price I would easily purchase this again.

Prost!

750ml. Very dark brown pour, nearly no light gets through. Billowing light ran head.

Aroma, malt, wood, yeast, spice. Some molasses, raisin.

Taste, a nice blend of malt, yeasty spice, some molasses and candi sugar. A little clove and tropical fruit. Finish is mostly brown sugar and raisin.

Medium bodied, lively carbonation helps with the sweet. Also makes it drink pretty well, just a little warming.
I enjoyed this, price was not bad either.
