Am I missing something by not pairing these beers with the suggested cookie? These beers should stand on their own, and this one does not. A thin brown with a metallic aroma. At least there's some earthy peanut in the aroma and flavor, but then more bitterness than I would expect or want in this style. I will get through this, but it's a bit of a chore.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

Good froth, bright and clear reddish brown hue.

Nutty nose, peanut shells, toasted malt, faint caramel, clean

Big smoothness, very prominent toasted grain character. Underlying peanut flavor within all of the toasted malt. Mild in the hopping and at a sessionable strength so the alcohol does not really make much of a showing. Almost a bit of contrast being on the dry side when paired with the Otterbein's Chocolate Chip Cookie.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours deep red with an off white head. Smells of peanut butter and very slight raisins. Tastes of watery fruitiness with slight peanut butter. Beer is light/medium bodied, highly carbonated. Overall, a slightly above average beer.

A hint of peanut but very well balanced and flavorful brown ale mostly and a slightly crisp finish. A perfect fall beer IMO. I highly recommend this one and feel its done very well. I don't even know if Flying Dog has attempted a brown ale before but they nailed this one pretty well. Nice job.

So, my review for this got eaten up by the servers. Basically all you need to know is that it smells like what it is called and needs to be paired with chocolate chip cookies. The sweetness and chocolate really round out the roast and peanut notes of this brown ale.
