Notes: The experimental doesn’t always require using obscure ingredients or unearthing ancient beer styles. For our Hoppy American Wheat Ale, the goal was to develop a wheat beer that was not dominated by the yeast strain. Instead, this refreshing, late summer release has dominant tropical fruit hops notes of mango, papaya, and pineapple alongside the creamy wheat character we all know and love.

Pours a very hazy apricot, light orange color with a fluffy head that settles to a small ring with lots of lacing.

Nose is pure Galaxy. Lots of juicy bright citrus and stonefruit. Tons of peach. Hints of slight biscuit and toast from the malt, but very backseat to the huge hop aroma

Flavor is very Gumballhead-esque. Soft, wheat malt base that lends hints of biscuit and toast that support the huge Galaxy flavors. Again lots of juicy hop character with citrus and peach. Bitterness isn't huge but seems sharp given all the other components of the beer.

Well-carbed. Light to medium bodied. Lots of slick, juicy hop feel. Assertive bitterness in whole. Finish is juicy before drying out with a lingering bitterness. Medium length finish.

Outstanding. Supremely drinkable with ridiculous hop flavor and aroma on a soft wheat malt body. Hope this is made again.

Smells fantastic, like fruity galaxy hops. Unfortunately the taste doesnt follow up on that promise. There's a clash between subtle, traditional weizen flavors and more brash modern hop flavors. The result is confusing and unimpressive. The piney hops overshadow the sweet, mildly spicy wheat profile. A shame really, because the nose hints at so much potential. A sweeter, more balanced profile does begin to emerge as the beer warms.

My beer guru left this one for me with low expectations. Had that great wheat beer look and the wonderful IPA smell, good combination. Outstanding beer, good flavor with some bitter bite but not to much as some of the Flying Dog beers are to me. I enjoyed the beer very much and would love to have again.
