had the chance to pick this one up a the store in a mixed sixer recently. served cold and poured into a pint glass.

pour was strong amber color with a nice head of white that reached a height of around an inch and half before settling back down to earth and leaving just thin lacing in its wake, but for the style nice and a classic look. aroma of sweet bready malts and a classic caramel aroma that was cut with a touch of grain. nice and clean with a semi crisp feel and an overall nice balanced body that really seem to let the taste pop. creamy malts finish the show with a really nice clean finish..

overall it was damn drinkable with a super smooth and really just awesome profile.

Clear bright golden color with a decent white head and nice active carbonation. Nice big grainy malt aroma and flavor. Well balanced ... only lightly sweet. Medium bodied and smooth with a nice dry grain finish.

Very Nice Buy !

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine June 2007.

The label says it all: a Steadman illustration of what looks like a demented hellhound coughing up former sheep. Anti-spring it is.

Pours out to yield three fingers of white head that leaves a sticky trail of lace down the glass, with the golden-orange color of the brew showing perfect clarity. Herbal hop and cake-batter aroma, aromatic yet clean to the nose. Thick medium body is creamy with a moderate carbonation that provides a slick smoothness. Certainly enough malt to go around, with biscuity and rustic bready flavors. Also plenty of hops to balance with a clean semi-sharp bitterness and a long-lingering herbal flavor. Some warmth from the alcohol is evident from middle to end--definitely more in the drying finish.

Not too shabby at all; a bit rough around the edges, but interesting to say the least. So why is this just a seasonal? Nothing beats a flavorful strong lager, any time of year. Definitely one of the best beers Flying Dog brews. Pair it up with a plate of sauerbraten (with extra red cabbage).

12oz. bottle.

Poured a light amber color with a nice lacing cap.

Aromas of cooked cereals with a little toasted toffee and some grassiness.

Chewy malts in the front like a Marzen but the balancing hopping is woody-earthy like spalters and tattnangers...slick viscous mouth feel...finish is wet and warming with some sweetness and a strange taste like custard.

Not my favorite offering from this brewer.

This beer poured a cloudy copper with a single-finger head. The smell is mostly toasted malt with some breadiness. The taste starts off with sweet malt that gives way to some dark fruitiness and floral hoppiness that lingers for a little while. The mouthfeel is slightly thick with some thin carbonation. This is a nice little beer that's totally worth a try if you can find a bottle.

L: Pours a yellow-orange with a medium sized and medium bodied white colored head that laces the glass nicely on the way down.
S: Smells of sweet toasted malts and some vinous fruit aromas at the end.
T: Taste is very sweet toasted malt upfront with a bit of a vinous fruity taste after which almost felt a bit like a barleywine.
M: Very smooth, crisp. Nice amount of carbonation.
D: Very drinkable bock. I enjoyed it as none of the flavors were too overpowering and the alcohol level was not able to be detected.

Poured a clear golden straw with a dense, fluffy white head. Lacing is moderate. Aroma is light with grain and toasted malts dominating. Taste is also very light, with some grassy notes and toasted malts. There is not too much evidence in hops in this one. Mouthfeel is light to medium in body and somewhat creamy.

Appearance is a hazy light orange. Clear and with some carbonation. Some good lace.

Toasted malt aroma with a darkly sweet undercurrent, like a mild barleywine. Full-bodied and nice.

Has an excellent sweet flavor, like a sour berry. Strong and nice. Mild barleywine-ish flavor and quite a good one. Sweet malt. Honey and red wine too. Also a blast of heavy alcohol.

Feels thick and a tad syrupy. Substantial, but definitely not chunky or overwhelming. It's really nice and strong. Sweet and bitter and everything else.
