Flying dog snuck just enough pumpkin and spice into this to call it a pumpkin ale. Tastes like a hopped up octoberfest. I really enjoy this one however

-pumpkin ipa. enjoy by 01.19.17. consumed 11.16.16. in spiegelau ipa glass.

A: Rose burgundy color with a steady flow of effervesce. Short living creamy beige head is slight in size but leaves a generous amount of band lacing.

S: Sweet brown sugar, whole cinnamon stick with hints of toasty malt and nutmeg.

T: Pumpkin pie spicing. Toasted malt and toasted pumpkin puree. Warming cinnamon stick, nutmeg, caramelized apple. Munich, dark crystal raisiny malt with a small touch of earthy green hops.

M: Crisp and lively carbonation, light to medium body, lightly creamy texture.

O: Nice drinkability, balance with good natural pumpkin elements and a spicing that is well balanced and complimentary. Hops, malt and spice all blend together for a very good drinker per style.

9/30/16....pours dark murky brown with some white foam residuals. Cinnamon/nutmeg smell, pumpkin too. Slightly woodsy. Edge pumpkin bitter taste, starts sweet and then firm. Different take on a pumpkin. Tasty bitter.

12 oz

Pours mostly clear amber orange, yellowish white head starts about an inch thick, firm and fine, retains as a sudsy lacing.

Smells of nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, brown sugar, and pumpkin.

Flavor is of pumpkin, toasted bready malts, and clove. Finishes dry bitter like strong nutmeg.

Medium to full body with fluffy carbonation on the tongue.

A very tasty marzen-like pimpkin ale. Mostly good mixture of flavors, nice body. The bitter finish feels somewhat out of place in this style. It's mildly off-putting but not a deal-breaker. Worth trying for a little twist on a pumpkin ale.

I like pumpkin ales, and I like IPAs, but a combination of the two sounded gross as fuck. But I stopped at Flying Dog on the way back from a hike, and Flying Dog never really made a *bad* beer, and the people there said it was good, so I grabbed a sixer. Whatever.

Pours a dark, filtered red. Much more like a typical pumpkin ale than an IPA.

Smells of caramel and cereal with just a hint of pie spice. Nothing too great.

Tastes like a good pumpkin ale with a unique hop finish. It actually comes together really well, in spite of my prejudices, and in spite the kinda off aroma. Pie spice up front, bread and cinnamon in the middle, light english hops in the end.

It's nothing weird. It's barely innovative. But that's probably a good thing. This is solid.
