A potent snakebite of Citra, Mosaic, Warrior, Simcoe, and Columbus hops (more than 2lbs per barrel) gives this beer its citrus-forward superpower. Orange and tropical fruit aromas temper slightly-piney crispness, turning Snake Dog into a more complex breed of West Coast IPA. You’ll find Snake Dog bites hardest when paired with peppery cheeses, curries, and mild Thai dishes whose names you can’t pronounce properly.

Pours out a clear light orange-amber with a two finger head that has decent retention and is creamy. The off-white head leaves medium-thick lacing behind as I drink this one down. Smell is of nice, fresh hops. The hops are mostly citrus/fruity to me with some earthy ones in the background. The pale malts come through in the aroma a bit also. A well balanced aroma starts this beer off well. The only criticism is the aroma could be a bit stronger. Taste is good. The fruity, earth and citrus hops have less flavor than aroma but their bitterness is not missed. The bitterness is a bit too high in comparison to the hop flavors. The malts in the background come through well and help balance but the bitterness still dominates. Tone down the bitterness and this beer is much, much better. Mouthfeel is good for the style. Light to moderate body with medium carbonation and really no warming. Nothing wrong here but I would like a tiny bit more substance/creaminess. Drinkability is good. The price/ABV ratio is spectacular and the flavors are nice. The bitterness might get to me after 3-4 of these but it is still certainly sessionable. I am glad I tried this beer and will continue to try the Flying Dog ales.

Having this beer at the Baltimore airport, and I just ordered a crab cake sandwich. Poured from tap into a tall pilsner glass. Clear yellow color with a good white head and good curtain lacing. Smell and taste of pine and citrus. Sharp, fairly bitter finish. Taste a tad soapy. Overall pretty good. Hope it goes well with the sandwich!

Look: It pours golden and clear with a white head. Head retention is excellent.
Smell: There are stone fruit aromas with some bread. There is a. bit of spiciness to it.
Taste: It has stone fruit flavors with some bread. There is a bit of spice and funky yeast to the flavors as well.
Feel: It has a medium body with medium bitterness in the finish.
Overall, the stone fruit works well with the grainy sweetness and funk.

Out of a can, into a glass. Since finding this particular brewer and this particular beer several years ago, it has been my go- to beer (hence my handle). I have had better beers, but given my location, my nearness to the brewer, and my personal taste, I have grown to love this beer.
