this summer I crossed the border into upstate New York searching for as many craft brew IPAs as I could find.

Of all the ones I tasted, this was my favourite - lots of bitterness, great flavour, and easy on the carbonation. I am not fond of overly carbonated beer that fills the glass with foam on the first pour.

I also tried their porter which I would not rate nearly as high,
I will search out other Flying Dog beer to taste, since I am very impressed with the snake dog.

Best before 1/31/13.

Pours a hazy honey orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and some herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with a medium amount of herbal hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is pretty tasty but has a better smell in my opinion.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams Boston Lager glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear, pale golden color. Has a small, frothy head that dissipates quickly and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: Smells strongly of floral, herbal, and earthy hops.

Taste: Aggressively hoppy up front. Finishes with strong fruity and earthy hop flavors backed by strong toasty, grainy malitness.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and medium-bodied.

Overall: A fairly decent IPA. In the past, I've found Flying Dog's offering to be hit-and-miss. This is definitely a modest hit.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Pours light amber with patchy white foam. Very sticky on the side. Foam persists. Very faint, almost nonexitsent light hoppy smell. Taste opens bitter and builds quickly. Beer fades and bitter remains. Well blended but more bitter than not. Its a good IPA for sure, but not remarkable.

*** Updated tasting 4/22/13 ***
Pours hazy bronzed copper with fluffy white foam. Floats atop. Strong pine nose. Stream of malt underneath. Amped up bitter taste that fades into caramel sweetness. Bitter holds up. Flavorful. Quite smooth. Really good.

I think I like IPAs more and more, and the upgraded review reflects that.
