Looked fun in the store so I picked this up.
Sweet fruit with lemon noted and soft spice and I get a greater sense of the salt than the pepper in the initial take. Beautiful golden color that is brilliantly clear. Smallish head for style but very white.
The spice plays heavier in the drink with the peppercorn noted in several ways including flavor but also the pepper feel in the mouth and the gut (a shot of warmth from both the alcohol and the spice). Much less fruit in the taste and much more phenols. Also the alcohol shows here too.
Fullness from the carbonation and the slightly bigger beer.
I like the salt more than the pepper in this. I find the pepper a little disturbing and distracting and it lays on my tongue unpleasanlty. The salt adds as it does in a Gose style and I kinda' like that.
I like Tripels so I like this beer, but it's not much beyond that.

Enjoy by 7/5/17. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours golden with a mild haze but still has some clarity to it; small white head that quickly fades leaving decent retention and decent lacing. The aromas have your typical subtle yeast notes. Bubblegum and banana is there along with some pear. Malts are there. The flavors are really interesting, and I mean that in a good way. The black peppercorns really steal the show. It's pretty spicy, especially for the style. The pepper isn't unbearable or anything, but it isn't subtle or shy. The flavors have your typical tripel characteristics, but the black peppercorns are absolutely the star. Alcohol goes unnoticed for the most part. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's on the lighter side of full-bodied with active carbonation. It's sharp, crisp and smooth.
This is a very unique tripel. The heat gives this one a dimension that you're not used to seeing in the style. The craftsmanship is very impressive. Very enjoyable stuff. Well done.

3.17/5: Quite peppery, which makes it an easy drinker; great additions in general, but the base tripel underwhelms

-BB 07.05.17. Consumed 04.12.17. in tulip.
A: Pale orange with lemon hues with a very sharp clarity and a light, spacious rise of effervesce. The capping is slight, dull white, clearing way to a polished surface with no chance of lacing.
S: Sea breeze of salt, dried lemon, while the black peppercorns add subtle background hints here, the salt is the more noticeable. Some green melon grind and banana yeastiness, ever so faint while the overall strength was light, bordering on medium at best.
T: Banana saltiness, the Himalayian sea salt is just as dominant in the flavor as was the nose. Clean, crisp pale malts, noticeable alcohol awareness, spicy, warm, with background nuances of the black peppercorns. Dry fruit, apple and pear, with some spicy earth flowers. Finishes with salt and a dry lingering pepper touch.
M: Oily, light mouthful, with a spicy alcohol warmth and low carbonation awareness.
O: A nice tripel with a very nice malting to style, while the saltiness comes on blunt and strong in the beginning, the taste buds soon adjust (or rather just numb) to the factor deeper into the drink. Warming alcohol of the 8.2%, feels a bit more warming, but never burning, with a dry attenuation. Clean, crisp with a very strong salting and peppering spicing stays long after the swallow.

Poured into a half pint glass: color is straw, transparent, moderate carbonation, head is off white, fine bubbles; head presents about 1/4 in thick and dissipates to a ring on the glass sides.
Smell is light yeast spicy, esters, hints of peppercorns and banana.
Taste hides some of the flavor additions behind the yeast esters at first, but then the pepper and salt start to come through. Flavors include light yeast banana/clove/ester, then light maltiness, salt and pepper. Salt and pepper addition definitely come forward with a temperature jump.
Mouthfeel is sharp, biting and full from the salt.
Overall a great take on the tripel style with subtle flavor additions that show through well but not dominating.
