This beer pours a pale gold with a smallish head. The aroma is strongly lead by pickled jalapeno, with lemon, melon, and oddly, cornbread. The flavor starts as a slightly sweet wheat beer, with shredded wheat and corn bread malts, with a small hint of melon, and just a tiny hit of jalapeno and heat at the end. The mouthfeel is on the lighter end, Overall this is a bit light for my style, and the promised flavors just don't pop - aroma is great, though.

Welcome back to Happy New This Year & Beer Are Flying Outta Here On Sunday, Dog (Week 723)! I am so glad that you could join me for this madness.
From the Bottle: "Finally. Someone found a use for that goddam melon baller."
I was SOOO elated to find this on the Singles shelf during a recent visit to The Beer & Beverage Shoppe! I love Flying Dog & I try to drink as many of their beers as possible.
I was a little trepedatious in opening this one, given the surprise that the previous Bird's Eye Rye had held. No matter. A Pop! of the cap, a slow, steady C-Line pour & I was off & running. It actually formed just over a finger of fizzy, foamy, bone-white head, but it quickly reduced to wisps. Color was a pretty Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity, prompting an impromptu visit from The Gelt Gang of Midas, Croesus & Mammon. Nose was redolent with Jalapeño! Wow. It had a fresh, earthiness to it, like very ripe, newly picked peppers. Mmm. Mouthfeel was kinda thin, not exactly watery, but not far beyond it, either. The taste was very pleasant, less spicy/hot than the previous one, with an interesting sweetness from the honeydew. Finish was dry, lightly spicy & highly refreshing. One was satiating, but it was still a very pleasant interlude.

Aroma is wheat/malts, jalapeños and slight sweetness. The flavor is wheat/grains/malts, fruit, mild jalapeños, a metallic hint and a medium sweet/honey finish.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 8/9/2018. Pours moderately hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big jalapeno peppers, honeydew melon, pear, red apple, peppercorn, clove, wheat, cracker, white bread, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of peppers, mango, fruity/spicy yeast, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of jalapeno peppers, honeydew melon, pear, red apple, peppercorn, clove, wheat, cracker, white bread, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/grassy bitterness and yeast/pepper spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of jalapeno peppers, honeydew melon, pear, red apple, peppercorn, clove, wheat, cracker, white bread, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of peppers, mango, fruity/spicy yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance; and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 5.5%, with minimal lingering pepper heat after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruit/spiced wheat ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of peppers, mango, fruity/spicy yeast, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/spicy finish. Very flavorful for the ABV. Really great balance of peppers, melon, and witbier style flavors. Nothing overwhelming or out of place. A very enjoyable offering, very impressive for a pepper beer.

Really interesting. The honeydew is subtle, jalapeño is obvious and complimentary. Definitely worked with a wheat because you can still taste the quality of the beer.
