Deep black colour with a tiny tan head. Poor head retention.

Rich and chocolatey with lots of vanilla notes. A bit one dimensional but still good.

A nice, spicy and rich alcohol complements coffee and chocolate notes.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Decent.

A good beer but it's nothing special and there are better beers out there.

Pours a dark black with a brownish head. Smells of chocolate, malt, oats and molasses. Same taste. Barrel and booze comes through. Very tasty.

12oz bottle. Vintage 11BB, so I assume bottled in 2011. Served in a Burnt Hickory snifter.

Pours a deep dark brown, almost black with a finger and a half capucinno head.

I'm getting scents of whisky, lightly charred malts, cocoa powder and wet wood.

Strong whisky, richly sour dates, cocoa, burnt carmel and a hint of smoke. Very little noticeable booze.

Soft, smooth medium feel with light carbonation.

One of the best I've tried from Flying Dog. Nothing ground breaking however this is quite solid.

On Tap

Churchill's Pub & Grille
San Marcos, CA

A dark brown with a thin light brown head. Nice webbing and sticky lacing down the glass.

The nose is really this beer's best characteristic. There's a lot of chocolate, sweet caramel, roasted malt, and a warm bourbon presence.

The flavor is very similar to the nose but I think the alcohol is just a touch too hot and holds a little too much presence. The sweet caramel, toffee, and sweet malts are all still delicious, though they're hidden a touch by the barrel aging process.

Medium bodied.

A really delicious and interesting sipper. An interesting beer. Nothing something I could drink huge quantities of, but a really good bourbon barrel aged porter.

Bottle says "June, 2005, limited edition"

1 Pint 9.4fl oz corked and caged bottle poured into my snifter

Pours an opaque like color with a massive five inch mocha colored head. The head is dense and has great head retention that subsides very slowly. Minimal lacing is left clinging to the sides of my glass.

Smells slightly sweet with dried fruit. Get hints of molasses, chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, candi sugar, and black licorice.

Taste is slight sweet upfront with candi sugar and dried fruit, some chocolate, cherries, coffee, oak and roasted malts.

Mouthfeel is full bodied with medium carbonation.

Great porter that I look forward to trying again and would definitely recommend.

Not a common event for me to write a rview for a beer, but since I happened upon a 2011 Vintage I figured it would be interesting to see the results after 4 years.

Oak and bourbon have really had their way with the aroma. Some chocolate in the background, but it is near imperceptible in comparison to the main flavors.

Suprisingly the roast and chocolate are the most gripping portions of the flavor. The bourbon still plays a pert but is not featured in anywhere the same way as the nose would indicate.

Overall, this has far surpassed my expectations for a Flying Dog beer, but can't help but feel the optimal aging is 2 1/2 to 3 years to retain all relevant flavors

It was mid-day and I took the blackbeast for a ride...Destination the South American's.
Eduardo was outside....

We had to pick up his car, which was need of serious detailing...removal of all bug/tracking devices....any sort of direct intersection with his/our coordinates....
Pick up was easy....now for some back woods pizza.

I pulled the blackbeast into the end of the cliff. Let's hang on shall we.
Eduardo was on my right.

We walked into a myriad of tasteful treats...this that and the other...There was only one that I was concerned with....And there you are, oh keeper of good times.

...Back to the front....We watched the Gonzo Documentary and poured a growler of some barrel aged Imperial Porter...You can't repeat times like these.

Thank you Hunter...
Thank you Flying Dog....
