From 10/29/13 notes. Had this on tap at The Jeffrey in NYC. 14 oz. pour in a tulip for $8 at their Flying Dog night.

a - Pours a somewhat clear deep amber-red color with two inches of fluffy off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of citrus hops, honey, fruity malts, pine hops, lemon, and grapefruit. Lots of citrus here, nice nose.

t - Tastes of citrus hops, grapefruit, fruity malts, pine hops, and some floral hops. Taste has no real bitterness, which I enjoyed.

m - Medium body and moderate to high carbonation. No bitterness, very easy to drink for 10% ABV.

o - Overall a very nice beer; honestly one of the best beers I've ever had from Flying Dog (up there with the Fear and maybe the Roggen for me). Lots of citrus and fresh hops to it but no bitterness at all, which was surprising for a big DIPA. A really nice DIPA I'd have again.

The beer comes in a clear orange amber color with a fluffy big two finger head.

The aroma is hits first of sweet orange citrus, and then rolls in a biting garlic and sweet onion in the back along with tons of cat pee. This is surrounded by some sweet bready malt.

The beer hits in the front with grapefruit, orange, tropical sweet peach and fruits, it then strips the tongue with onion and garlic. The finish then becomes astringent and aggressive pine and earthy bitterness. The fruits are accentuated from a sweet bready malt.

It's a bit too aggressive for me, but the base beer is still fantastic. The Citra is truly exceptional.

2013 release, big fan of the imperial single hop series so happy to get come across this. Pours a clear amber colour with a small head. Aroma is pleasant, dank pine and some citrus. Taste is interesting, plenty of pine, accompanied by some grapefruit, booze, and earthiness. The bitterness stands out with this beer, full bodied and a little boozy too, although pretty well balanced by a decent malt backbone. All in all, this is a solid imperial ipa, although nothing out of this world. It does a nice job of profiling the simcoe hop so if you are a simcoe fan, you will not go wrong here, nor will you if you like your beers hoppy and bitter. Always like trying single hop beers so I am glad to try another in this series, the citra and Nelson sauvin still lead the way in my opinion though.
