Cask offering @ Churchkey. Smooth and velvety, creamy head. Taste much stronger than aroma, but nice piney bitterness, finish fades fast, but extra points for texture.

12oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.

Bright golden hue, amazing lacing ... bubble show up the glass. Nostrils are slightly accosted by Galaxy hops and clean alcohol. Good amount of bitterness, soft citrus rind, pine, tea, peppercorn, and grassiness from the Galaxy hops. Malt base is enough to hold up to this onslaught and the 10% abv certainly brings it on for the Imperial IPA style. A lot of fun sipping this one.

A: This poured a clear gold with lots of off white head.
S: It smelled like fresh peaches and pine, with some honey and grapefruit.
T: It tasted like grapefruit and resin, with some peaches and honey. It had a clean bitter aftertaste.
M: It was thick with some carbonation. Great big body.
D: This was a fantastic IPA, with delicious scent and taste. The body was solid, but the finish was a little hot, so it should be sipped. Best beer by Flying Dog ever.

T: it's really good fruity pineapple tasting boozy though you are tasting that Booze but the beer is so flavorful

M: it clings, but I think it's medium mouth feel it lingers on the tongue

O: this is a tasty beer, it's boozy as all get out but it's got a great taste it's fruity and got a nice malt backbone

Another solid, big single hop IPA from Flying Dog. This one is smooth and not bitter in the finish, but the taste and smell profile is subdued. For Galaxy hops I was expecting a bigger citrus pop but it wasn't there.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed golden amber color with an almost orange like hue. Upon pouring there was a two finger white head that faded relatively fast to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma was bready and malty with a fruity smell being mainly of tropical fruits of tangerine, mango, and pineapple; but also containing some nice notes of apricot and peach. Along with the fruit and bready aromas comes hop smells of a light grapefruit smell as well as a decent showing or a grassy aroma. A little bit of a yeasty smell is there as well producing a rather nice sweet and fruited, lightly hopped aroma overall.

Taste –The taste begins with a doughy and slightly bready flavor with tons of sweeter tropical fruit tastes of a tangerine and mango nature. Soon after the initial taste, even more fruitiness comes to the tongue with the apricot and peach as well as a bit of orange that were detected in the nose, all hitting the tongue. Upfront in the flavor profile, there is also some grapefruit and a bit of grass which are quite light, but which gain strength as the flavor advances. All the while, the sweeter flavors persist, but with the bready flavors fading a bit, it allows for the sweet and hop to really stand out more. Other hop flavors of an earthy and light pine flavor join the taste more toward the end, blending nicely with the sweeter flavors of the brew. While at 10 % abv., only a trace of alcohol flavor is present, with the total of flavors left at the end of the taste, leaving a fruity and more moderately but nicely balanced hop flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel- The body of the brew was on the slightly chewier and thicker side with a carbonation level that was a little on the lower side. The thicker body and lower carbonation really nicely upheld the more moderate hops in light of the sweeter maltier flavors of the brew and made for a great sipping style.

Overall- As to date I think this is one of the top single hops in my mind. It seems to have a very nice balance, all while keeping any one flavor from becoming the dominate and while hiding the alcohol level very well. This is a delicious brew.

12 oz. bottle gifted from drabmuh (thanks!), label reads "34A15" in lower R hand corner, drank over an hour out of my NEBCo Gandhi-Bot snifter glass

A: 3/3 - golden-orange coloration, clear enough for style, initial creamy white head settles into glass lacing that picks up again with reagitation, moderate carbonation with tight white bubbles coalescing into the carbonation; moderate alcohol legs

S: 10/12 - bold tangerine, peach, earthy, grassy character; slight breadiness and alcohol to kick; no DMS/diacetyl

T: 14/20 - mild bitterness on the front of the front of the tongue; the middle of the palate features classic Galaxy hop flavors - grassy, earthy, peach, tangerine and passionfruit; a bready/biscuity dominated sweetness provides balance on the back of the palate; on the finish, there is alcohol and a moderate residual sweetness

M: 4/5 - moderate-to-bold body with hop oils, malts and alcohol; low-to-medium carbonation appropriate for style and enhances drinkability

O: 8/10 - above average-to-very good single hop Galaxy beer that I enjoyed more than other Galaxy-forward beers including Pipeworks' Galaxy Unicorn; I think that Galaxy can be easily overdone as a single hop - an out-of-balance admixture of tropical and earthy notes that I find unpleasant; the bold malt and alcohol content of this beer prevents it from reaching these levels; maybe the best (with Citra) in FD's Single Hop DIPA series --> recommended

TOTAL - 39/50

Quick note for me, not a review:
Bottle dated best by 02/03/2015.
Peach and mango fruitiness with a grassy back. Looks wonderful if a bit clear, nice head and lacing. Taste follows nose, alcohol perceptible. Maybe just a tad sweet.

12 oz. bottle

Getting gritty in the city tonight. Drinking another Local Brew *gasp*! I was good with the Citra single hop, yet I didn't like the Amarillo single hop. I hope this one is a winner. Guess what, it is. This brew looks outstanding for a DIPA of it's stature. Crystal clear golden honey body with a tight bubbly white head. This smells pretty good. Nice peaches fruit with a subtle resinous backend. Malts are sweet like potato bread. My mouth is watering! The flavor is peaches up front with an underlaying unripe mango. Then polishes forth with spearmint and sweet malts with some booze. Finishes very dry, smooth and a little alcoholic. Bitterness is clean and lingers after the swallow. A nice lingering leafy tobacco in the aftertaste. The feel on this brew is medium bodied with kinda harsh carbonation.

Overall: I went in on this one with a little expectations, just to find's not bad. Actually, I could drink this again and recommend this brew. It's boozy but at least the initial flavors mask it for the foremost. The booze is only evident after the swallow, that causes an alcoholic astringency on the palate and some heat in the back of the throat. This brew is balanced, high octane and recommended!

12 oz bottle into a wine glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear golden color. The head is a finger high, with a shade just barely off-white. Retention is quite good for 10%, and the sticky head leaves behind nice lacing on the glass. (4)

Smell: Oh yeah, this is why I love Galaxy hops. Vibrant tropical fruits immediately appear on the nose, backed by a touch of caramel malt. For 10%, this is quite lean. Some gentle hints of herb and mint also appear. This is a wonderful nose...but I can't help but feel it would be even more wonderful if it was a bit bolder. It's a hair dinky for 10%, but at least it seems well balanced. (4)

Taste: Sweet tropical fruits hit the palate first. The hops will ultimately evolve into an herbaceous, minty flavor near the middle and a mildly bitter grapefruit note finishes it off. Notice I never said anything about the malt yet? That's because it's quite lean for 10% (I said that before, didn't I?), and the hops don't seem very bitter at all. At first, I don't think it comes together quite as well as the single-hop Citra, but as I continue to sip it, everything starts to balance out beautifully. (4.25)

Mouthfeel: There are subtle hints that suggest its bigness: it feels a hair thicker than a standard IPA, and it tries to communicate a warming sensation going down. Otherwise? No, this definitely doesn't taste 10% at all. Despite the dryness, it's initially creamy on the tongue. Carbonation is slightly low for the style. It's amazing how this has so many facets that work against its drinkability (low fizz, full body, 10%), and yet it still drinks easier than many 7% IPAs. (4.25)

Overall: Another successful single-hop DIPA from Flying Dog, period. As excellent as it is right now, I think ramping down the malt bill/gravity to 7% would make it one of the best IPAs on the market. Still, it's hard to complain about getting a great, local DIPA in 6-packs. I need more of this, right now. (4.25)

4.19/5: Excellent showcase of an excellent hop

Review from Notes (10 oz.)

S: All around strong citrus and pine notes, dare I say almost like a particular herb.

A: Very nice golden appearance with excellent lacing.

T: Strong resin aftertaste with notes of citrus. All hops with nothing else coming through.

M: Extremely smooth with a bit of coarseness at the end.

O: This was an excellent IPA. This review made it so that a a ranking number appeared (88).

Slightly hazy, decent head retention.

Bready caramel malt, fairly grassy, resiny, muted citrus notes of mango and pineapple. Pretty sweet. Slightly dank.

Toasted malt overwhelms the flavor, fairly sweet, becomes resiny and bitter at the finish. Citrus is underlying, but overwhelmed by malt and bittering hops. Grapefruit pith, orange, and earthy hops emerge.

Pretty smooth body. Alcohol warmth isn't as much as expected.

Too bitter for my liking. Hop flavor is somewhat muted by malt and bittering hops.

Hugely drinkable strong DIPA. Handsome orange ambef color in the pint shaker. Modest foam. Warm and fragrant, and less sharp than lots of IPAs, but plenty tangy. This is just a great hop-- Galaxy seems to be fruity with some resiny taste, but not so outrageously bitter.

A spicy nose with hints of cardamom. Full rich flavor with plenty of malt, though the body is lighter than lots of big beers. The hops are just outstanding. Served in a pint at Pizza Port San Clemente. Yee-haw!

On tap at The Tap

Pours clear neon orange with a nice off-white foam cap and good retention. Lacing was excellent. Could not see through the glass after it was gone.

Smells like a tropical delight. I love Galaxy hops. Lots of papaya, mango, guava and pink grapefruit. A touch of malt bakbone, but the hops shine.

Nice initial flavor burst of lush tropical fruits. The perfect amount of malt creates a kind of candied fruit flavor of guava, mango and papaya. Finishes with more of a grapefruit presence and fairly dry and bitter. Grapefruit lingers on the back of the tongue.

Medium bodied with good carbonation. Very juicy and finishes with a nice candied bitterness. Alcohol is hidden well. Would not have guessed this ABV.

Nice effort to showcase one of the best hops around. Small malt bill and let the hops do their thing.

Growler poured into a pint

A pretty clear orange amber with a firm two finger off-white cap. Good retention with big sip marks coating the glass.

Galaxy hops leaping into the air. Huge tropical notes of mango, pineapple, papaya, guava, and ruby red grapefruit. The super clean malt bill is just an afterthought.

Clean malt slides in first before a burst of tropical goodness. Juicy mango and papaya with guava and pineapple poking through. Some ruby red grapefruit bitterness sweeps through, leading to a moderately bitter and dry finish with a little help from the rye.

Oily and resiny feel. Good carbonation, medium body. A little bit of rye, hoppy bitterness and light tropical fruit juice lingers.

A solid DIPA on all fronts. Simple, easy malt bill with a heavy hand of galaxy hops. Galaxy hopped beers continue to tickle me just the right way.
