Bloodline defies genre: Hops for the hop-heads. Fruit for the rest. This is the beer you buy to convert the guy who “doesn’t really like IPAs.” Sweet blood orange puree is added toward the end of fermentation to balance the citrusy sharpness of the hops and deliver a hard-charging ABV to keep the good times rolling.
Malts: Rye, Caramel
Hops: Northern Brewer, Citra, Galaxy
Yeast: American Ale
Special: Brewed with blood orange peel and puree
IBU: 40

Five months past expiration date, but still pretty tasty. Malty, citrus note. Medium mouth feel. I'd love to try this fresher.

A solid IPA...
I will admit, I'm always wary of the blood orange type IPAs. Most times they come out tasting crappy, but this one was thankfully an exception. One of the only ones in recent memory that I enjoyed from top to bottom...

A true masterpiece of a fruit-forward IPA from Flying Dog Brewing. Although not as strong
As I had anticipated.
A great balanced IPA and a great drinking IPA.
Enough said!

Pours an orange/copper with a cream colored head.
Smells of citrus floral and earthy hops with a pungent fruity yeast.
Orange, raspberry, and a hint of mango followed by a yeasty bread malt backbone.

can into glass
Very rich and thick, ivory head. Medium light orange, with a lot of a golden hue, for the look. Really forward, orange juice and peel and a spiced, medium caramelized malt aroma. Slightly sweet upfront, then non-biting, orange peel, and rich caramel malt side, for the taste. Quite good and easy orange peel and blossom finish.

Look: It pours orange with a bit of yellow in it. There is some clouding. It has a white head with excellent head retention.
Smell: It has orange aromas with a bit of grainy sweetness to it.
Taste: There is grainy sweetness in the flavor with some orange notes. There is a bit of spiciness to it with some rind like flavors.
Feel: It has a medium body with a bitter aftertaste.
Overall, the rind like elements contribute to some bitter harshness. The orange flavors are good.

I got a bottle of this beer off the single shelf from my local Giant Eagle store. It poured a slightly hazy copper with no head and no lace. The scent was kinda skunkybwith grapefruit vibe. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bitter citrus fruit presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer.
