It's A Trip.
More than 30 years ago, a group of oxygen- and alcohol-deprived amatuer hikers convened in a Pakistan hotel room after summiting the world's deadliest mountain. There, Flying Dog was born.
A Renaissance (and Mountain) Man.
George Stranahan -- a PhD in physics, founder of the Aspen Center for Physics, professional photographer, writer -- lead that expedition to the summit of K2 in 1983, at the age of 52. In 1990, George opened a brewpub in Woody Creek, Colorado with Richard McIntyre, a man who continues to be well ahead of his time.
Gonzo Meets Beer.
"Ralph, please. I beg you. Please do a quick beer label or maybe two for George. Your label must include one of my quotes about wisdom and drink. OK." - H
That H stood for Hunter S. Thompson, a longtime friend and tenant (who never paid the rent) of George. The Ralph? The one, the only and the inimitable Ralph Steadman.
Good Beer, No Shit.
Live on the BBC, Ralph scrawled those four simple words across his canvas and our mantra was born. We embrace the weirrrd and view craft beer as an art form unlike any other.
And F*ck Censorship.
We live in a world where people are coddled, messages are muddled and ideas are squashed in the name of political correctness. When the Thought Police closed in on us, we went to Federal court to defend our right to free speech and expression.

They have hundreds of beers, each beer brand they sell taste different every time. I’ve heard they are having trouble sourcing ingredients and it shows. Flying Dog was my favorite brewery, but after hearing how they treat their employees no wonder their beer is getting worse. I will never buy their beer ever again.

The brewery tour was awesome! You get to sample along the way and very informative! Gift shop has sweet merch. Flights are the way to go! Tropical bitch is still my favorite! They have some gimmick beers like Bloody Mary and old bay infused but the IPAs are solid!

Great tour. Marissa did a great job. 2nd time ever that a tour sampled “green” beer to explain the brewing process. Great job.
Funny that the ghost of Frederick Brewing is still present. Keep up the good work.

Tried stopping here two years ago but hit traffic along the way which kept us from getting there in time. However, we did make it there on time the second time around. The location is within an industrial park and the building is pretty big looking from the outside. They have a small merch/gift shop area right as you enter the building. The tap room is modest in size and fairly welcoming. The selection of beers aren't anything too special, it's mostly made up of their year round selections and a couple brew house rarities. The service was friendly and quick. It's a nice place to stop if you're in the area, especially if you're new to craft beer or from an area that Flying Dog doesn't distribute to. Personally I don't know how fast I'd go back since I'm able to get just about all the beers they make here in PA on the shelf. Still a nice spot though.

Finally reviewed. Been about 5 or so years now. Was driving down to D.C. from PA and thought I’d take a shot. Unsure now but then you needed to be scheduled for tour to check out tasting room. So walked in w/o appt. and had missed the tour; but eager happy crew @ tasting bar offered the hallway “Mural” tour. Absolutely not to be missed. Two cool things... after “tour” I was only guy at bar and had great beer talk with crew; and then was joined later by Tour group and party atmosphere took over. Offered a hand full of tour token coins after “tour”and went directly to “Go”. Then given more tokens in gift shop. Way too much fun and many awesome brews were sampled that day.
Big beautiful place. Great young crew.
Hard to believe this was a typical day... maybe just stars aligning. Don’t go by there often, but would love to stop again. Who knows?

Great beer, great service, crowded, loud and uninviting. Grab a flight, grab a sixer and retire to your mancave. Overrun by hipster douchebags.

I was in Maryland airport and Flying Dog brewery was inside so I figured why not go. This wouldn’t be considered the actual brewery but, more of their brew pub. Nice place with about 8 beers on tap. I really enjoyed he ambiance of the place (even though we were in an airport). I’ve never really been impressed with Flying Dog’s beer but, on draft it wasn’t that bad it was okay. They had a really good agave sour beer but other than that nothing really stuck out. It was worth going in and checking it out but wasn’t too impressive.

This was a fun, laid-back stop with my wife on a hot Saturday afternoon. It's spacious with a variety of seating options. Nice tap selection although it would have been fun to have more brewery-only pilot batch options.

Enjoyed our time here recently. We got there early and stayed almost all day. The crowds came and went, but it was a nice tasting room experience with a clean look, enough seating, and decent noise levels. Service was friendly and prompt for most of the day. We enjoyed the tour the last time we were here, so I will give a little credit for that as well.
The beers are definitely well made, and almost all are solid. There isn't too much crazy experimentation, but tasty beers made from the core beer ingredients and a few with some additions. The beers today were almost all pale in nature (at least the non-core), which was fine. Could've had a couple more styles represented even given it was a summer tap list.

Tons of beer on draft - all of the year rounds, seasonals, current Brewhouse Rarity + Single Hop, plus 3-5 beers you are typically only going to see at the brewery itself. Always slammed, so you're not going to get a personal vibe with the employees behind the bar if that's your thing. Tour lasts about 45 mins.

This place has a lovely vibe, the tasting room is full of wood and stone and Ralph Steadman illustrations on the walls.
The tour is great, with little samples along the way. Enjoyed trying the beer mid-process before it was completed.
The dudes behind the bar were also very nice and conversational. You can tell they are proud of what they have to offer.
It's worth checking this place out if you're ever around Frederick.

Gives sweet brewery tours plus you take home a full-size tasting glass. Tasting room is setup well. Food available from the FD food truck out in parking lot. Love it!
