11.2oz bottle poured into a glass at the Bier Zot in Sister Bay, WI on 8/11/17. US dating of 2/6/16. Review from notes. Appears hazy brown with lots yeast clumps. Mellow smell/taste of dark fruit, spice, and herbal hops; lower intensity. Some noticeable alcohol. Good body and average carbonation. It has a unique spice and herbal flavor, but is somewhat muted.

Wow, I like this beer! Deep garnet in color with a small, tight, long-lasting head. Aromas of dark fruit, sweetness, alcohol, spicy hops. Taste is balanced between sweetness and hops bitterness. Malty and smooth. Definite flavors of dark fruit, malt, hops and caramel with a bit of an alcohol aftertaste. I agree with previous posts that point out a cough syrup like aftertaste but it is not overpowering or unpleasant. I would buy this again.

A great beer that becomes better at each sip. The candy sweetness is well balanced with the spicy and herbal hops. . The nose is more on the dark fruit compare to the taste. It's definitely drinkable even with the almost cough syrup like aftertaste, it has a light body, I was something a bit heavier.

Damn fine brew. It's been awhile since I came across a beer that made me want to write a review. The aroma was a little underwhelming, but the flavor and mouthfeel were immediately spot-on. Good balance of carbonation and a hint of cherry-type flavor (yeah, I don't concern myself with the high-falootin' taster's vernacular)... Complex and tasty, this one is definitely worth a try... Unless you're a hop-head, in which case your dope-smoking ass will probably hate it. Cheers!

My bottle is a little younger than atigerlife's-- 2013. At 10 percent I thought it ought to be good for a couple years. After some initial foam-up the pours are pretty devoid of carbonation. Overall this is a caramel candy with a rusty note. Peculiar fruitcake smell with a splash of vanilla liqueur.

This is so sweet and sticky. It has what I think of as that classic Belgian oxidized burnt sugar taste. Old stewed raisins and a dose of alcohol. The finish is wintergreen with a bitter bite. I am remembering why I usually avoid random Belgian beers on this side of the Atlantic.

This had a best buy date of 2008!! So, it is an OLD beer. Obviously, had this for quite a while...don't exactly recall how long. I haven't rated much in a long time...but figured a beer this old deserved my respect [opened to share with my daughter on her 21st B'day]

A: Dark brown. Not much carbonation. Minimal head. Lots of chunky yeast floating.

S: Aroma of dark fruits, malts, brown sugar.

T: Raisins, figs, and heavy on the prune. Malts.

M: Somewhat flat. Lifeless.

O: Obviously, the years have taken its toll on this brew [as they have on me too!]. Probably should have opened this one 5+ years ago. But, still fun to open an old beer and see what time has done. Worth the try...and will probably push me to start drinking some other of my older brews.

From elcervecero. In Teku glass. Watching Narcos 1x03. Superb aroma. Good taste, but I miss a bit more thickness.

Mahogany color with beige head. Aroma has green coffee, a bit of liquorice, toffee and molasses. Taste follows with dried dark fruits, light coffee and toasted malts. Very balanced between the sweet toffee and dried fruits and the roasty, coffee like notes. Body is quite heavy with a good amount of carbonation. This one is quite different from other dark belgian ales. It has some similar yeast quality but the used malts distinguish it from the others. I definitely recommend this one.
