12oz bottle purchased at Main Market in Spokane for $1.19. It appears Fish neglected to make a freshness “notch” in the space provided on the label, so there’s no telling how old this is.

Poured a hazy orange-amber color. Half-inch or so of bubbly beige foam stuck around for a little while and left lace on the sides of a Mass Transit Ale pint glass (thanks, Connie).

Juicy, grapefruity aroma to this. A little bit of malty sweetness was way in the background.

More bitter and herbal tasting than the nose let on.

Oily, prickly mouthful to this.

Bitter end was right, along with bitter start and bitter middle.. Definitely an IPA that will only appeal to a certain kind of hophead, one that likes things dank and bitter. I found it pretty good, but a little one dimensional. I’d like to try a bottle of this I know is fresh.

Pours into a nonic a clear deep copper color with a nice looking sticky white head that leaves a full ring of lace as it settles slowly into a frothy mass. Not much hop presence for an IPA in the nose, mild leafy hops along with caramel/biscuit malt.If this was categorized as an APA it would get a high ranking from me but the hops just are not big enough all around here.Biscuit malts with caramel sweetness with a leafy almost minty like "herbal" hoppy finish. Not a horrible beer but the hop profile is lacking for the style.

Ideal place to drink: on my way back home from snowboarding, I stop by my local Winco and find this 6 pack gem for $7.89. Paired w/ meat & cheese roast beef sandwich at home, it stands out as a strong, dark copper, dry finishing IPA. Mmmm Winco

Fish Brewing Co. "Hodgson's Bitter End IPA"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, "SPAWNED ON DATE: FEB"

Notes: Slight haze, probably from dry-hopping. Surprisingly good head retention and lacing. Pleasantly hoppy aroma backed by mineralish caramel malt. Floral, leafy, herbal, piney and citrusy. As usual the flavor follows suit with boldness all around: hops, malt, bitterness. Dry, bitter finish with lingering leafy, herbal, spicy and somewhat grassy hops. Befitting the Hodgson name, the caramel maltiness and yeast choice seem English in nature, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a healthy dose of Kent Goldings in there as well. The piney, citrusy and spicy hops (or is that alcohol?) give it an American twist. As it warms it becomes much more rounded and balanced.

Clear copper gold with one finger of dense white foam that has good staying power. Fair lacing as the level drops. Nice aroma mostly biscuits and caramel. Big initial bitterness but not complex. Strong malt presence makes the beer more enjoyable. Not a typical IPA but more like an uber Amber. Good smooth mouthfeel with standard amount of carbonation. Long mostly dry bitter finish. Interesting beer but would have liked more interesting hop character. This beer was only about 2 months old so it was relatively fresh. Worth trying for sure but not one to walk a mile for. It still had a small cushion of head at the bottom of the glass. I had to bump the rating to a 3.75 in the appearance category for that.

Nose is very nice with tones of citrus rind and orange marmalade. Body has a murky orange hue with an off white head that stands at nearly an inch. Head fades fast leaving dots of lace and a skim around the edge of the glass. With first sip you get a yeasty hue to the flavor. Hops are like candied pine needles that are distracted by the malt backbone to this beer. Drinks more like a pale ale then an IPA. Solid drinkability, but a bit disappointing as far as the style.
