Our Rhode Island Blueberry Beer is a crisp, refreshing Kolsch style ale made with fresh blueberries from local Rhode Island Farm, Schartner Farms in Exeter, RI! The prominent blueberry aroma that first meets the nose translates into a perfect balance of blueberry and beer flavor that pleases but doesn’t overpower the taste buds. The addition of fresh blueberry juice, over other types of flavoring, keeps our second year-round beer light and not-too-sweet-but-just-right!

A: Pours a hazy amber, with not much head or lacing.
S: Huge aroma of blueberries, but also a caramel sweetness.
T: Can definitely taste the blueberry, but has a nice malt taste to it to almost make it a blueberry muffin kind of taste.
M: Thin, and decent carbonation, makes for a nice refreshing feel.
D: The fruit can get a little overwhelming, odd to drink in the winter, but tasty nonetheless.

I recently CANpleted a brewery horizontal with Knee Deep & these next few represent my next foray into a buncha CANs for The CANQuest (tm), while also CANtinuing to reduce the backlog.
From the CAN: "Rhode Island's Microbrewery"; "Rhode Island Blueberry Beer".
I CANmittedly did some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent to being a relatively aggro C-Line Glug. I wanted to ensure that any adjuncts were back in suspension if there had been any flocculation. It foamed beautifully to form just under two fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, eggshell-white head with modest retention. Color was a hazy Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9). Nose smelled like a basket of freshly-picked blueberries, straight from the field! 8=O
Digression Dept., Pt. 1: When I was a kid, blueberries were my favorite fruit! I loved them in everything from cereal to muffins to pies. My paternal aunt had a blueberry patch & we would ocCANsionally go out & pick the fruit. I loved to just eat them as is, but she taught me a modicum of self-CANtrol & would bake a pie for me to take home, or if I had been especially hungry & not many were left, a quick batch of muffins and/or biscuits was in the offing. I try to make a 4th of July cake every year with blueberries, strawberries & either/both apples and/or peaches to resemble an AmeriCAN flag. Mmm.
Digression Dept., Pt. 2: The first time that I had a Blueberry Beer was at Gritty McDuff's in PORME during the Summer of 1990. I was a Mug Club member & when they had its release party, I was there! Maine says that they have five (5) seasons: 1) Winter; 2) Mud/Spring; 3) Tourist 4) Blueberry & 5) Black Fly with most overlapping. Haha! F**king Maine blueberries are the finest ever. I could eat a pint in one sitting. Gritty's would blend (first time that I ever heard of such a practice) their Black Fly Stout with the Blueberry Ale & call it a "Blue Fly". Haha! They would even put in some blueberries for good measure. On that note, BOS Beer Works also offers a Blueberry Ale & they will give you a scoop of defrosted frozen blueberries in your glass that, in CANbination with the carbonation, looks like a poor man's lava lamp with blueberries going up and down. Haha!
Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, but a) it was a base Kölsch-style ale & if you are looking for a dense mouthfeel, then you are squandering your time + b) mouthfeel is not the focus in this style. The presence of fruit is! Well, this was certainly fruity. The malt(s) gave it a more bready/biscuity quality than pie-like. That is to say that it was not a dessert beer. Its sweetness was held in check while the fruitiness had a ChANce to shine in CANjunction with its malt(s). Finish was semi-dry, definitely not sweet, which would have killed it for me. YMMV.

Nice amber color with white head that doesn't really hold for long, strong blueberry smell, though a very pleasant taste it's just to sweet for me but if you like beers that aren't bitter this is a nice go to, medium feel

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Lagunitas mason glass
L: Clear light golden pour with 2 fingers of fluffy white head. Great lacing.
S: Blueberries and light grains. Smells as advertised.
T/F: Crackery grains... blueberry juice and light fruit. 1-dimensional and the berry doesn't work terribly well with the malts. Some sweetness but not a blueberry soda at least. Light bodied... fizzy carbonation.
O: Pretty underwhelming.. a light forgettable beer with blueberry. Easily drinkable at least. Not one I'd reach for again.

This is a light and floral fruit beer, as compared to the typical heavy and syrupy flavor- they use local blueberrys & blueberry juice from exeter RI instead of the typical artificial extracts and flavors in most fruit beers, so i think that's what really sets it apart.
