A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2014. Picked up the other week from a B&M store. Features a picture of a rather creepy snowman on the front. Based on my previous experiences with Wentworth beers, I don't have high hopes.

Poured into a straight pint glass. A brownish-amber colour with coppery highlights and low carbonation. Forms a small head of white foam that dissipates almost immediately. Aroma of caramel malt with hints of grain, roasted nuts, stewed hops and an odd yeasty note that isn't entirely pleasant. Some background harshness.

Tastes of roasted caramel malt with dry and unusually bitter finish. Notes of roasted grain, nuttiness, faint toffee, a whisper of dried fruit and stewed hops. The malt character is a little watery. A harsh, strident bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with pleasant carbonation but a thin, insubstantial body. Rather astringent, with an aftertaste of harsh stewed hops and mild roasted/caramel malt.

Meh - not a great beer. The flavour is unusually harsh and bitter, as if the brewer went overboard on the bittering hops during the boil. Some nutty caramel malt but it seems weak and lacklustre. Pretty average aroma and uninspired body. There is also a strange hint in the background, almost like a twinge of vinegar, which I've detected in their other beers. All said, not brilliant. If this is supposed to be a Christmas brew it doesn't bring much cheer to the party. Give it a miss; it's not worth your time or money.

Bottled and purchased from budget supermarket B&Ms
Pours chestnut brown body with a bubbly white head. Aroma of caramel, fruit and light Christmas spices. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Body relatively light, texture is oily, carbonation fizzy. Finish has a bitter edge with fizziness lasting.

500ml Bottle: best before Nov 2014, poured into two half-pint tumblers on 15 Feb 2013 and shared with a mate.

Pleasant reddy brown body, the biege head hung around awhile.

Malts rule the aroma and taste: spiced up somewhat, it tries to be a 'winter warmer' without the strength or depth of flavours. Nice enough, but lacks true class or craftmanship in its feel and presence: it is a fairly cheap brew, mostly for the cut price supermarket and lower end of the booze shop trade, so my comments should be taken with that in mind.

OK more than great, it doesn't pretent to be overly special and it isn't: the shiney labelling is typical of the brewery and helps to make the beer stand out on the shelves, why not?

Happy with the beer: but would have been upset if I'd paid a lot for it.
